  • The aim of this research is to investigate free vibration of a novel five layer Timoshenko microbeam which consists of a transversely flexible porous core made of Al-foam, two graphen platelets (GPL) nanocomposite reinforced layers to enhance the mechanical behavior of the structure as well as two piezo-magneto-electric face sheets layers. This microbeam is subjected to a thermal load and resting on Pasternak's foundation. To accomplish the analysis, constitutive equations of each layer are derived by means of nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) to capture size dependent effects. Then, the Hamilton's principle is employed to obtain the equations of motion for five layer Timoshenko microbeam. They are subsequently solved analytically by applying Navier's method so that discretized governing equations are determined in form of dynamic matrix giving the possibility to gain the natural frequencies of the Timoshenko microbeam. Eventually, after a validation study, the numerical results are presented to study and discuss the influences of various parameters such as nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, aspect ratio, porosity, various volume fraction and distributions of graphene platelets, temperature change and elastic foundation coefficients on natural frequencies of the sandwich microbeam.

  • In this paper, based on the CPT, motion equations for a sandwich plate containing a core and two integrated face-sheets have derived. The structure rests on the Visco-Pasternak foundation, which includes normal and shear modules. The piezo-magnetic core is made of CoFe2O4 and also is subjected to 3D magnetic potential. Two face sheets at top and bottom of the core are under electrical fields. Also, in order to obtain more accuracy, the effect of flexoelectricity has took into account at face sheets' relations in this work. Flexoelectricity is a property of all insulators whereby they polarize when subject to an inhomogeneous deformation. This property plays a crucial role in small-scale rather than macro scale. Employing CPT, Hamilton's principle, flexoelectricity considerations, the governing equations are derived and then solved analytically. By present work a detailed numerical study is obtained based on Piezoelectricity, Flexoelectricity and modified couple stress theories to indicate the significant effect of length scale parameter, shear correction factor, aspect and thickness ratios and boundary conditions on natural frequency of sandwich plates. Also, the figures show that there is an excellent agreement between present study and previous researches. These finding can be used for automotive industries, aircrafts, marine vessels and building industries.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest a lightweight design for the aluminum extrusion carbody structure of a double deck high-speed train using material substitution and size optimization method. In order to conduct material substitution, the topology optimization was used to determine the application parts of sandwich composites at the carbody structures. The results of analysis showed that sandwich composites could be applied at roof and 2nd underframe. The size optimization was used to determine thickness of the aluminum extruded and carbon/epoxy composite. The design variable, state constraint and objective function were formulated to solve the size optimization, and then, the feasible design was presented by these conditions. The results of the lightweight design showed that the weight of double deck high-speed train hybrid carbody could be reduced by 2.18(17.70%) tons.

  • Pull-out and shear strengths of insert Joints of sandwich structure were investigated by experiment. Specimens were prepared by cocuring of nomex honeycomb core and carbon-epoxy composite face using an adhesive FM73. A total of 75 specimens with 10 different types depending on the core height and density, face thickness, and loading direction were tested. In the test under pull-out loading, although both the core height and density affect the failure loads, the effect of cell density is more serious. Dominant factor fur failure loads of the joints under shear loading is face thickness and the effect of core height is negligible. In the joint with same dimension, failure loads vary depending on the potted area of the core, particularly in the pull-out test.

  • In-plane switching characteristics of PI rubbed ITO sandwich cell with low molecule FLC (ferroelectric liquid crystal) surface was investigated. FLC on the surface is governed by the applying frequency and surface condition. By controlling the Ps (spontaneous polarization) direction of dual FLC surfaces, switching characteristics are improved without change of cell structure.

  • A novel carboxyl terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile (CTBN) modified, low temperature cure epoxy film adhesive was developed in this paper. It can be cured at as low as $75^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours with a pressure of 0.1MPa. After post cure at $120^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, the bonding strengths of Phosphoric Acid Anodizing(PAA) surface treated aluminum adherend were similar to those of structural film adhesives curing at $120^{\circ}C$. It is suitable to bond both metal/composite laminate-to-laminate and laminate to honeycomb structure.

  • In this paper, we study the electrical conduction mechanism in Langmuir-Boldgett(LB) ultra thin films. The LB device has a metal/Lb films/metal sandwich structure, where metal is electrode. In our experiments, the temperature does not depend on the current at below 0$^{\circ}C$. This phenomena show that the electrical conduction current is a tunnel current inherent to LB ultra thin films.

  • Machine tools of high-speed and high-precision are required for various fields of industry such as semiconductor, automobile, mold fabrication and so on. Light-weight machine tool structure is essential for reduction of production time through rapid transportation. Also, high damping capacity of the structure is required to obtain precise products without vibration during manufacturing. Composite materials have high potential for machine tool structures due to its high specific stiffness and good damping characteristics. In this study, the design and the manufacture of a hybrid machine tool structure using composite materials was attempted and the damping capacity was investigated experimentally.
