The sedimentation processes and heavy metal distributions at the Nakdong estuary were investigated during October 1987 and September 1988. The depositional sedimentary environment of the studied area was estuarine environments and was divided into three provinces depending on its textural parameters such as barrier, tidal falt, and water passes. The relationship between the textural parameters showed that the barrier was under strong wave action, that the tidal flat was under relatively weak wind-driven currents, and that the water passes were under strong and continuous tidal currents. Each environments was resulted from different transport mechanism. the sand barrier sediments were transported by all three populations including suspension, saltation, and bed load, and water pass-deposited sediments were by the bad load with some suspension population. In water mass over the studied area, the concentrations of heavy metals including Cu, Cd, $Cr^{+6}$, Pb and Zn were recorded to be 27.8, 6.7, 20.4, 16.3, and 37.3 ppb in their highest concentrations, respectively. and those in sediments were 20.0, 1.65, 25.4, 15.4, and 132.0 ppm, respectively. The total up take factored of Cu, Cd, $Cr^{+6}$, Pb, and Zn by V. Muller (corbicula fluminea) were 1600, 310, 310, 490 and 7900, respectively.
In this study a series of centrifuge tests were carried out in dry sand to analyze the comparison of lateral pile behavior for static loading and dynamic loading condition. In case of static loading condition, the lateral displacement was applied up to 50% of pile diameter by deflection control method. And the input sine wave of 0.1 g~0.4 g amplitude and 1 Hz frequency was applied at the base of the soil box using shaking table for dynamic loading condition. From comparison of experimental static p-y curve obtained from static loading tests with API p-y curves, API p-y curves can predict well within 20% error the ultimate subgrade reaction force of static loading condition. The ultimate subgrade reaction force of experimental dynamic p-y curve is 5 times larger than that of API p-y curves and experimental static p-y curves. Therefore, pseudo-static analysis applied to existing p-y curve for seismic design could greatly underestimate the soil resistance at non-linear domain and cause overly conservative design.

Abnormal change in Gyeongpo beach shoreline in June of 2012 was illustrated using DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System, resolution < 0.6m) observation and drift experiment. Abrupt change in the shoreline was occurred in the latter part of June, 2012, this change was compared with that in June from 2009 to 2011. In the northern part of the beach, sand accumulated and it made beach extension and movement of the shoreline towards sea compared with that in June from 2009 to 2011. While on the other, in the southern part, the beach was eroded and it formed a steep slope around the southernmost of the beach. The shoreline in the southern part of the beach was shifted more towards land than that in the past. Change in the position of shoreline was higher in the northernmost and southernmost of the beach compared with those in the other parts. Drift in the southern part of the beach moved faster along the beach than that in the northern part of it.
This paper deals with a development of combined seismic methods, based on the application of Televiewer and seismic tomography, for the quantitative assessment of reclaimed body or dam at seashores in our county. The underground structure of reclaimed dam is very complex, mainly due to the unexpected exchange of rock fragments with the marine silty mud in conjunction with S.C.P. (Sand Compaction Pile) foundation, so that for several reasons only the use of Televiewer and seismic tomography for general application might not lead to a desirable resolution. Kinds of upgraded measuring and evaluation techniques for that are needed. For examples, a novel strategy for capturing the returning impulses from the outer side of casing plastic pipe is desired to be developed. For the tomograhy, one should be being more focussed on the study of raw data based on the wave propagation theory. In this paper, it is shown that such multidisciplinary approaches can be, by attempting to compare and jointly interpret the results from two methods, much efficient for understanding the reclaimed dam structure.
To acquire seabed information, the mosaic images of the seabed were generated using Side Scan Sonar. Short time energy function which is needed for slant range correction is proposed to get the height of Tow-Fish to the reflected acoustic amplitudes of each ping, and that leads to a mosaic image without water column. While generating mosaic image, maximum value, last value and average value are used for the measure of a pixel in the mosaic image and 3-D information was kept by using acoustic amplitudes which were heading for specific direction. As a generating method of mosaic image, low resolution mosaic image which is over 1m/pixel resolution was generated for whole survey area first, and then high resolution mosaic image which is generated under 0.1m/pixel resolution was generated for the selected area. Rocks, ripple mark, sand wave, tidal flat and artificial fish reef are found in the mosaic image.
This study verified numerical analysis of the liquefaction phenomenon using LEAP-2017 international round-robin centrifuge test results. Dynamic centrifuge test is performed by applying a 1 Hz tapered sine wave to the model soil deposit, which was formed under a water table in a surface slope of 5° using Ottawa F-65 sand. A numerical model was made on a prototype scale and analyzed using the finite difference method in 2D and 3D conditions. The analyses were verified for acceleration and pore-water pressure histories with depth and residual displacement. Verification results revealed that all numerical liquefaction models agree reasonably with the test result for acceleration histories but not for pre-water pressure histories. Numerical analyses showed much smaller residual displacement than the centrifuge test. Thus, it is necessary to compare the results of numerical analysis with the centrifuge test performed by other institutes in the future.

The monitoring for analyzing coastline variations throughout many years is conducted in this study. Haeundae Beach is selected as a test area. We have collected RTK-GPS survey data, airborne LiDAR survey data from Sept. 2008 to 2005. We've done airborne LiDAR survey 2009 to 2006 and we would analyze coastline changes time series through interactive comparison analysis. The mean coastline distance of Haeundae shore is 1,347m (RTK-GPS) by airborne LiDAR survey (2 times). Coastline distance is decreased approximately 4.5% than mean distance in the November survey of 2008. We know right and left sides of the coastline are eroded and the center section shows us the littoral deposit of 3~7m toward sea. It turns out that the sand both sides is transported to the center section by a wave and tide and we know the coastline distance is getting smaller but the coastline width is getting longer like 2~7m.

This study focused on nonlinear effective stress site response analysis using two coupled constitutive models, that is, the DM model (Dafalias and Manzari 2004), which incorporated a simple plasticity sand model accounting for fabric change effects, and the PMDY03 model (Khosravifar et al. 2018), that is, a 3D model for earthquake-induced liquefaction triggering and postliquefaction response. A detailed parametric study was conducted to validate the effectiveness of nonlinear site response analysis and porewater pressure (PWP) generation through a true coupled formulation for assessing the initiation of liquefaction at ground level. The coupled models demonstrated accurate prediction of liquefaction triggering, which was in line with established empirical liquefaction triggering relations in published databases. Several limitations were identified in the evaluation of liquefaction using the cyclic stress method, despite its widespread implementation for calculating liquefaction triggering. Variations in shear stiffness, represented by changes in shear wave velocity (Vs1), exerted the most significant influence on site response. The study further indicated that substantial differences in response spectra between nonlinear total stress and nonlinear effective stress analyses primarily occurred when liquefaction was triggered or on the verge of being triggered, as shown by excess PWP ratios approaching unity. These differences diminished when liquefaction occurred towards the later stages of intense shaking. The soil response was predominantly influenced by the higher stiffness values present prior to liquefaction. A key contribution of this study was to validate the criteria used to assess the triggering of level-ground liquefaction using true coupled effective-stress constitutive models, while also confirming the reliability of numerical approximations including the PDMY03 and DM models. These models effectively captured the principal characteristics of liquefaction observed in field tests and laboratory experiments.

The characteristics of frozen soils are one of most important factors for foundation design in cold region. The objective of this study is to evaluate the shear strength and stiffness of frozen soils according to the confining conditions during the freezing and shearing phase. A direct shear box is constructed for the frozen specimens and bender elements are mounted on the wall of the shear box to measure shear wave velocities. Specimens are prepared by mixing sand and silt with a silt fraction of 30% in weight and the degree of saturation of 10%, giving a relative density of 60% for all tests. The temperature of the specimens in the freezer is allowed to fall below -5℃, and then direct shear tests are performed. A series of vertical stresses are applied during the freezing and shearing phase. Shear stress, vertical displacement, and shear wave along the horizontal displacement are measured. Experimental results show that in all the tests, shear strength increases with increasing vertical stress applied during the freezing and shearing phases. The magnitude of the increase in shear strength with increasing vertical stress during shearing under fixed vertical stress in the frozen state is smaller than the magnitude of the increase in vertical stress during freezing and shearing. In addition, the change in shear wave velocities varies with the position of the bender elements. In the case of shear waves passing through the shear plane, the shear wave velocities decrease with increasing horizontal displacement. This study provides an evaluation of the properties of shear strength and stiffness of frozen soils under varied confining condition.
The shingle beach as a typical pocket beach located in Jeongdo-ri, Wando, Cheolanam-do, Korea has been investigated in terms of textural characteristics, mainly gravel shape and roundness. In the Jeongdo-ri gravel beach, changes of beach profile after storm weather and textural parameters of gravels were observed and measured from May 1992 to March 1993. Beach profile is divided into two different Fair-weather zone and Storm-weather zone influenced by dynamic condition of wave energy. The former is affected by wave and tide under fair-weather condition, the latter seems to be formed under storm-weather condition. Each zone comprises a series of beach faces and berms formed by continuous sedimentary processes of swash, overwash and backwash. Storm-weather zone is subdivided into three groups having a pair of beach face and berm respectively. Mean sizes of berm gravel(45.5 mm -123.6 mm) are coarser than gravels of beach face (36.8 mm - 78.3 mm) in fair-weather zone. On the other hand, in storm-weather zone, gravels of berms (33.1 mm -82.5 mm) are finer than those of beachfaces (46.2 mm - 105.2 mm). The proportion of disc shaped gravels of berm (50.0% - 58.5 %) is higher than that of beachface (45.9 % - 51.3 %) in each subzone except C-group of storm-weather zone. And the proportion of the equant shaped gravel increases about up to 10% seaward. Therefore, shore-normal distribution of gravels seems to be affected by shape and size sorting effects. Shore-parallel distribution pattern of gravel shape is more distinctive than size distribution patterns. That is, disc and blade shaped particles decrease up to 20% and 13% respectively, and equants increase up to 34% to the westward. Gravels plotted on Sneed and Folk's triangular diagram are more compacted and elongated with decreasing size. Therefore primary gravels are shaped by characteristics of country rock e.g. cleavage, joint etc., and secondary are affected by sorting and size-controlled process evolution by wave action.
