  • San-ja is one of the main members consisting of the roof of traditional wooden buildings in Korea. In this study, the regional characteristics of the materials used in San-ja and changes of the materials over time were examined. To this end, 123 documents on the repair of wooden architectural heritage recorded since the 1950s were reviewed. It was found that there was a difference in the San-ja material by region because of the diversity in the conditions of material supply. For instance, bamboo was the most frequently used material in Jeollanam-do province because it was readily available. However, with the development of transportation and vehicle, the regional characteristics have disappeared. As a result, the material has been unified with bamboo now. This is because bamboo is specified as a representative material in the specification or the convenience of construction is prioritized. In addition, the social and economic conditions at the time of repair had an influence on the selection of the San-ja materials.

  • The 18th Winter Universiade will be held in Muju in 1997. It is a good opportunity to inform the local foods of Muju to the inside and outside of Korea. First of all, we carefully investigated the quantity of all kinds of food material, their circulation ability, and cookery per year in Muju. We found about sixty kinds of food as many as restaurant. We presented how to improve such kinds of food as O-Chunk (fish porridge), Minmulmaeuntang, Kochunaengi chungsik, etc. and how to use the special products of Muju such as yam, kochunaengi, wasabi and wild herb. The many kinds of cookery were specialized to cooks through manual and actual skills. And then we held a food contest that twenty-two cooks took part in the contest and there were exhibitted forty-two kinds of foods. Finally, through discussion and food contest, Muju Sanchae Bibimbap (meal which mixed rice with wild plants), Muju Sanchae chungsik (meal which has various wild plants with rice), Muju Kochunaengi Chungsik (meal which has various wild plants and wasabi with rice), Ma Naengmyun (cold yam noodle) and Muju Minmulmaeuntang (hot fish porridge) were recommended.

  • We have conducted on experiment with a purpose to evaluate the performance of grids being used at hospitals in Seoul and adjacent cities of Seoul. The results are as follows; Reality of the grids use 1. The focused grids were 105 and the parallel grids were 6 among 111 grids subject to experimenting. 2. The grid interspace material was aluminium of 94 and the remains were wood and bakelite. 3. The umber of Korean products from five companies was 33 and the one of the foreign products was 34 from companies. The physical properties have been examined by the notice of Department of Health and Social Affairs. 4. The intensity of secondary radiation was the highest in 5 : 1 grid ratio. 5. The Bucky factor increased with the increase of grid ratio. The selectivity, the grid improvement factor of grids also increased with increase of the grid ratio. However, with 6 : 1 grid ratio those factors were decreased exceptionally. In measurement of grid density with screen determiners and the beam alignment. 6. In evaluation the results were satifisfied within, 20%. 7. The value of the scale and the value of measurement were within the range of standard deviation, but the value of 103 lines were outranged from the standard deviation with all grid ratio except of 6 : 1 grid ratio.
