  • An approximate Bayes criterion for Behrens-Fisher problem (testing equality of means of two normal populations with unequal variances) is proposed and examined. Development of the criterion involves derivation of approximate Bayes factor using the imaginary training sample approachintroduced by Spiegelhalter and Smith (1982). The proposed criterion is designed to develop a Bayesian test criterion having a closed form, so that it provides an alternative test to those based upon asymptotic sampling theory (such as Welch's t test). For the suggested Bayes criterion, numerical study gives comparisons with a couple of asymptotic classical test criteria.

  • Bayesian probability models for finite populations are considered assuming so-called the super-population. We find the posterior distribution of population mean by a new approach, using the concept of pivotal quantity for the small sample case. A large sample theory is also treated throught the concept of asymptotically pivotal quantity.

  • The purpose of this Study is to develope the Role of Statistics in Industrial mass production. The process of mass production will be divided into three steps, that is, Standardization, production and inspection. The Statistics is applied to Specificat-ions, Quality Control and Sampling inspection in these three steps. The applications have developed to Statistical methods based on probability theory. And then, The improved plan is exhibited the point of problems of introducting of spreading of quality control throughout field survey.

  • In this paper we develop a method for calculating a probability that a particular generalized variance is the smallest of all the K multivariate normal generalized variances. The method gives a way of comparing K multivariate populations in terms of their dispersion or spread, because the generalized variance is a scalar measure of the overall multivariate scatter. Fully parametric frequentist approach for the probability is intractable and thus a Bayesian method is pursued using a variant of weighted Monte Carlo (WMC) sampling based approach. Necessary theory involved in the method and computation is provided.

Development of the criterion involves derivation of approximate Bayes factor using the imaginary training sample approach introduced by Speigelhalter and Smith (1982). The criterion is designed to develop a Bayesian test, so that it provides an alternative test to other tests based upon asymptotic sampling theory (such as the tests suggested by Bennett(1951), James(1954) and Yao(1965). For the derived criterion, numerical studies demonstrate routine application and give comparisons with the classical tests.

  • A Bayes criterion for testing the equality of covariance matrices of two multivariate normal distributions is proposed and studied. Development of the criterion invloves calculation of Bayes factor using the imaginary sample method introduced by Spiegelhalter and Smith (1982). The criterion is designed to develop a Bayesian test criterion, so that it provides an alternative test criterion to those based upon asymptotic sampling theory (such as Box's M test criterion). For the constructed criterion, numerical studies demonstrate routine application and give comparisons with the traditional test criteria.

  • It is known that the accuracy of DEM is related with terrain morphology, sampling density, and interpolation method. However, the theoretical reasons for these correlations have rarely been accounted for so far. This study aimed to verify a theoretical basis that DEM accuracy can be assessed based on approximation theory when we generate a DEM using lots of precise and accurate source data such as digital maps and LIDAR data.

  • We have developed a new method to simulate the observed color magnitudediagrams for Galactic globular clusters. The model calculations include all evolutionary phases- from zero age main sequence to asymptotic giant branch. Using these models, we can simulate directly the observational errors and sampling effect and also can examine the stellar evolution theory in more$.$ realistic way. Implications of these model calculations on the recent space observations of globular clusters and other systems will be discussed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the re-employment process of inactivated nurses returning to the nursing field and to develop a grounded theory about their re-employment experiences. Methods: Data was collected through a face-to-face interview and telephone interviews from 10 nurses. The ground theory methodology of Strauss and Corbin (1998) was used for theoretical sampling in accordance with their unemployment period and reason for leaving prior to reemployment; whereas works of data collection and analysis were performed concurrently. Results: The core category was discovered to be 'identifying a career path by striking a balance between the practical and the ideal'. This series of processes was categorized into five stages: 'trying to get a job again', 'tolerating difficulties as a beginner', 'trying their best to remain a nurse', 'trying to get another job', and 'staying in the profession till the end'. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest an understanding and profound insight on the issue of a nursing shortage.

  • A conventional digital receiver sampled a baseband signal and processed it digitally for demodulation. But now we can sample at sufficiently high speed a wideband signal to take enough discrete data values due to the advent of economic high-speed ADC. With this technical background, a wideband frequency-division-multiplexed signal can be undersampled and channelized in digital domain by DFT analysis filter using the theory of polyphase. In this paper, we propose a new digital receiver which can digitally process the multichannel received signal by sampling at IF band, develop a mathematical theory and algorithm, and analyze the performance by using C-language simulaation. The proposed receiver can demodulate analog and digital FM signals.
