The purpose of the study was to investigate the shrinkage and creep behavior of PET filaments which were prepared at various spinning speeds(3,300, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, and 7,000m/min) and anneal($120^{\circ}$, 30min & $150^{\circ}$, 40min). In order to determine the shrinkage and creep behavior with the crystallinity change, PET filaments were treated with low(12$0^{\circ}C$, 30min) and high($150^{\circ}$, 40min) temperature conditions with hot air dryer under the constant tension. The results of the study were as follows: as the spinning speed increased, the degree of shrinkage and elongation of the sample treated by wet condition decreased. The sample with 0.01g/d of load under various spinning speeds showed shrinkage behavior and highest shrinkage ratio at $76^{\circ}$ which was Tg of PET. The degree of shrinkage and elongation of the treated sample was less than those of the untreated sample by wet treatment. Especially, there was less degree of shrinkage and elongation of the sample treated by higher temperature condition. In 3,300m/min of spinning speed the draw ratio of undrawn yarn of a mixture of a-axis orientation and c-axis orientation was 2.0, which is similar to the value of the traditional drawn yarn. Finally, there was a big range of shrinkage and elongation by wet treatment in 3,300 m/min of spinning speed.
Poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) with different wt% water was studied gravimetrically as well as with 1H magic angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The composition of PVB samples changes during MAS NMR because of the centrifugal force. As MAS time progresses, initially free water was removed fast but bound water also was gradually depleted. More water was diminished at faster spinning speeds, longer spinning time, higher temperatures, and higher initial water contents. As water in PVB was reduced, the chemical shifts and line widths of different types of water and also those of PVB changed. Our results demonstrate that 1H MAS NMR carried out at 10 kHz in less than about 5 minutes is a convenient and sensitive technique to measure: (a) the content variations of different types of water in polymers, (b) the degree of the interaction of water and polymer, and (c) the molecular dynamics of the polymer. Our study can be extended to different soft polymers with other small molecules than water in them.
Undesirable convective flow in an NMR tube inhibits the accurate measurement of diffusion coefficients by NMR spectroscopy. To minimize the convection effects, various methods have been suggested, and it has been known that the use of sample rotation can be useful. However, it has not been clearly examined that the convection suppressing effect of the sample rotation under the different spinning speeds. In this study, the relation between convective flow and the sample rotation was investigated using PGSE NMR diffusion experiments to reveal the feasibility for controlling the convective flow in an NMR tube by sample rotation itself. The viscosity effect was also examined using solvents with four different viscosities, acetone-$d_6$ chloroform-d, pyridine-$d_5$, and $D_2O$. The sample rotation showed apparent convection suppressing effects at all temperature range for the low viscosity solvents, acetone-$d_6$ and chloroform-d, even at the faster than 5 Hz spinning rate. The similar patterns were also observed for pyridine-$d_5$ and $D_2O$, which have higher viscosity. This effect was observed even at high temperatures where convective flow arises conspicuously.
Ginseng is used as a medicinal ingredient. The quality control of species, age, origin and manufacturing process is important. The metabolome of ginseng about quality was studied in many reports. Almost studies carried out the extract of ginseng, however, the reproducibility cannot be obtained using extracted sample. In this study, powdery ginseng samples were analyzed using high resolution-magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (HR-MAS NMR)-based metabolomics except extraction step. Sample was measured three times using 600 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with nano probe. Reproducibility can be enhanced using this method and the metabolic profiles of ginseng were identified and quantified.
Microporous polypropylene hollow fiber membrane was fabricated from isotactic polypropylene-soybean oil system by melt spinning process. Addition of nucleating agent accelerated the crystallization rate and elevated the crystallization temperature. Nucleating agent increased the number of nuclei and spherulites, which offered more inter-spherulitic amorphous sites for stretching. Benzoic acid, adipic acid, and dibenzylidene sorbitol were selected as nucleating agents, and their characteristics and effects were investigated by thermal and optical analyses. Spherulite growth and micropore formation characteristics were correlated with the kind of nucleating agent. Benzoic acid and adipic acid showed the remarkable nucleating effect, while dibenzylidene sorbitol was less effective than those. Nucleating agents also helped the sample have uniform microporous structure. Increase of nucleating agent composition enhanced the nucleation effect to some extent. Nucleating agents played very important roles in enhancing the membrane porosity and water flux.

The aim of this work is to develop Thick-Thin polyester yarn(T-T yarn) with finer than 1 denier mono filament. The manufacture of T-T yarns were carried out in a draw-winder using 85d/72f PET filament with various spinning speed of 2700, 2900, and 3100 m/min, respectively. The structure and physical properties of T-T yarns with spinning speed and over feed ratio were examined by draw-winder processing the sample in $100^{\circ}C$ water for 20 min and drying in 120, 140, 160, and $180^{\circ}C$ of dry air for 20 min. The crystallinity, the birefringence and the initial elasticity modulus of T-T yarns increased with increased spinning speed of filament and the heat treatment temperature but at the temperatures higher than $140^{\circ}C$ the increased rates show a tendency to decrease. Moreover, the initial modulus and the tenacity of T-T yarns increased with decreasing the over feed ratio of filament and the those of T-T yarns decreases with increasing the heat treatment temperature. The shrinkage of T-T yarns decreased with decreasing spinning speed and increased over feed ratio of filaments. Consequently, the results indicate that the best T-T yarn under 1 denier was optimized from PET filament with spinning speed of 2700 m/min and over feed ratio of 0.67
To minimize the variance in the quantification of solid-state phases in powder samples, gently placing polycrystalline samples one next to another directly in a sample holder is better than trying to mix them homogeneously prior to transferring to a sample holder. However, the solid-state cross polarization-magic angle spinning (CP-MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy results demonstrated that it is essential in this sampling method to place all the samples in the location of consistent signal sensitivity. The same sampling method may be employed in other spectroscopic quantification techniques of solid-state phases if the method to limit the sample to the location with uniform signal sensitivity in the sample holder is adapted to each technique.
Separation of particles based on different sizes, detection of pathogenic bacteria and isolation of leukocytes from whole blood are typical applications of spiral or helical microchannels. The present study focuses on developing a CD4+ T-cell counting device for monitoring HIV/AIDS patients with the aid of a helical minichannel used for a sample cartridge. For the experiment, $10{\mu}m$ sized microbeads were used for visualization with a fluorescence imaging system. Alignment of microbeads was investigated in a stationary and spinning sample cartridge filled with glycerol-water mixtures of different densities. The helical minichannel was spun using a DC motor controlled by an Arduino board with a Bluetooth shield. It was found that when the sample cartridge was made stationary, no bead alignment was achieved for a medium with density (0% and 20% glycerol) lower than that of the beads, but when it was spun at 2000-3000 rpm for 1-4 min, an alignment was obtained at the top of the channel facilitating optical detection and enumeration of those microbeads. Since an alignment of microbeads was achieved for a medium with density as that of blood plasma, the same approach can be applied for aligning and counting CD4+ T-lymphocytes in whole blood samples collected from patients.
Droplet distribution of LCP(Vectra 950) and PET blend by repeated extrusion was examined through morphology analysis. Repeated extrusion was respectively proceeded twice and three times with blending condition and droplet distribution of only once extrusion sample showed uniform shape. However, droplet size of twice and three times extrusion samples increased and it was confirmed that droplets were concentrated on the center of specimens. It is thought that this phenomena were due to the compatibility and viscoelastic behavior of LCP/PET blend. Finally, it is thought that fiber manufacturing of different diameter is possible from spinning of repeated extrusion LCP/PET blended chip under same spinning condition.
In liquids NMR, $^{1}H$ is the most widely observed nucleus, which is not the case in solids NMR. The reason is due to the strong homo-dipolar interactions between the hydrogen atoms which mask the useful chemical shift information. Therefore we must remove the strong homo-dipolar interactions in order to get structural information, which can be investigated by the isotropic chemical shift. There are two ways of obtaining it. One is the ultra-fast MAS of ca. 70 kHz spinning speed, which has become available only recently. The other way is devising a pulse sequence which can remove the strong homo-dipolar interaction. In the latter way, MAS with a moderate spinning rate of a few kHz, is enough to remove the chemical shift anisotropy. In this report, 1D-CRAMPS and 2D MASFSLG techniques are utilized and their results will be compared. This kind of highresolution $^{1}H$ NMR for solids, should become a valuable analytical tool in the understanding and the developing of a new class of hydrogen storage materials. Here ammonium borane $-NH_{3}BH_{3}$, whose hydrogen content is high, is used as a sample.
