This paper describes an outline of the sampling design for crop area survey and product survey in Korea. The design attempts to from a double statification, to obtain an efficient allocation of the sample and to reduce the sampling error by establishign crop concentrated strata. The optimum numbers of sample field and sample plot are investigated. The design is made it possible to reduce the sampling errors as well as to reduce the sample size further than the present survey.
With the current sampling scheme, the sampling variance is getting larger in producing smaller regional statistics than the designed area, The larger sample size can make the variance reduced but the efficiency of sample survey lower. The desired confidence level of sampling survey can be obtained using the current sample scheme with the same sample size and administrative data. In this paper, the number of the unemployed of 5 regions in Daejon are estimated using small area estimation methods and the CV values in each estimation method is calculated and compared for their estimation efficiency as empirical study. Jackknife method is proposed to estimate the MSE of synthetic estimator and composite estimator more accurately.

Sample surveys are usually designed and analyzed to produce estimates for a large area or populations. Therefore, for the small area estimations, sample sizes are often not large enough to give adequate precision. Several small area estimation methods were proposed in recent years concerning with sample sizes. Here, we will compare simple Bayesian approach with Bayesian prediction for small area estimation based on linear regression model. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated through unemployment population data form Economic Active Population(EAP) Survey.
Main monthly household surveys conducted by Korea National Statistical Office are economically active population survey(EAPS) and household income and expenditure survey(HIES). Samples of these two surveys are redesigned every 5 years based on Census. This paper is about sample redesign of household survey conducted in 2002 based on 2000 Census. Main improvements of 2002 sample redesign are the introduction of rotation sampling system, the expansion of HIES survey area from urban to whole country and the foundation of basement to make small area estimation for the unemployment statistics. Also the number of sample households within a enumeration district(ED) is reduced from 24 to 20. That makes it possible to select more ED samples which provides better precision for EAPS and HIES. To select representative samples for the population, different classification index is used for each metropolitan area and provinces.
This study was conducted to find out the influence of sample size (accumulated survey areas) on the seven biological indices of benthic macroinvertebrates. BMI, the index similar to Zeilika-Marvan’s saprobic index, tended to be independent on the variations of sample size. The other indices (Shannon-Weaver’s diversity, Margalef’s richness, Menhinick’s richness, Pielou’s evenness, and Lenat’s EPT index) showed the considerable variations along with the increase of sample size and environmental conditions. To get the appropriate index values, it should be sampled at least 6 replicates more based on 30×30cm Surber sampler. In addition, the habitat heterogeneity index of benthic macroinvertebrates suggested in this study, it will be able to be used for evaluating the heterogeneity of habitats.
A molel study was conducted to determine the optimal sample size for the analysis of the aquatic insect community in a stream reach of the Pangtae Creek, Kangwon-do in October 1995 and may 1996. The results showed that the required minimum sample size varied and depended on the purposes of the community analysis. Acoording to the Species: Area Curve method, at least 16 Surber samplings ($30{\times}30cm$) were required in a stream reach in each spring and fall survey. The species diversity index did not vary significantly as the sample size increased. Based on the coefficient of variation analysis, the minimum sample sizes of 10 were required in order to compare seasonal differences of the community in the study area. Considering the static community structure of aquatic insects, including both species numbers and individual numbers of aquatic insects, 11 and 7 samplings were optimal sizes for the fall and spring survey, respectively. We concluded that 12 Surber samplings from 3 riffle-pool sequences (4 samplings at each riffle-pool sequence) would be required in a stream reach (length 1 km) to obtain reliable as well as cost efficient data. Our model showed that the optimal sample size should be determined by interactions between minimum sample size, the degree of data reliability, and cost efficiency.
Small area estimation has received significant intention in recent years due to a growing demand for reliable local area statistics. Traditional area-specific direct estimates based solely on sample survey data in the areas of interest do not provide adequate small area precision; however, design-based indirect local area estimators borrow strength from sample observations of related areas to increase the effective sample size. Design-based indirect estimation methods such as synthetic and composite estimators are considered to adjust local area unemployment rate estimates in the Korean Economically Active Population Survey. This study suggests an efficient alternative to minimize the cost to construct the unemployment rate of a local area through simulation under the condition that we can maintain a certain level of CV for the estimates. We obtained the results that the composite estimators using a sample size greater than 10 are more stable and significant at the level of CV 25% in our design scheme.
This paper describes the design of sample of the survey on the trend of house prices in city areas. The purpose of this research is to increase the precision of house price index in 39 cities and to provide with an accurate house price indes. The sample is selected in the stratified two stage sampling. In chapter 2, review and discussions are given on the sample design now in use. In chapter 3, we describe the sample size and the stratification, the house price index and error, and the substitution of sample. Finally we consider on problems of the sample design and some alternatives to solve them.
The objectives of this study were to analysis the farmer's attitude on agriculture and rural area where is developed Environmentally Friendly Agriculture (EFA). To analysis satisfaction level and prospect about EFA, famer's survey were conducted. The sample size of the survey was 176 respectively. Of the famers surveyed, 85.9% thought their income is higher than general farmer in the same area. However, when asked how the future income change, 40.7% responded that will be decreasing step by step. 89.2% of the farmer respondent thought that they want dwelling in rural area and continuing agriculture in the future. However, 29.9% of the farmer respondent thought that rural area is not proper to their children as the future residence. In order to training of new lamer, it is very important to set up stable income structure, improving of welfare facilities, medical facilities and education infra and so on. In addition, it need to develop and spread of environmentally friendly agri-technology, price preservation of environmentally friendly agri-product and supply extension of environmentally friendly agri-material etc.
In order to make clear the relationship between sample design and sample survey in community, it was conducted research on sample design for National Nutrition Survey in 1983. In this paper it was tried to analize the data based on The Report of a Settled Population, 1981 conducted by National Bureau of Statistics Economic Planning Board. The sample was basically using stratified two-stage sampling with systematic sampling of Ban or Li as administrative unit. The population represents the whole nation excluding Jeju-do because of budget. The selection of sampling unit and sampling procedure was as follows. 1) Stratify the nation-wide area in 20 sections according to administrative districts. 2) Determine the sample size in each section according to equal proportional rate (1 / 8040) and to about 1,000 households in the sample. 3) Select the 25 sampling units by section according to households proportion. 4) Select the 10 households at random from each Ban or Li according to equal probability proportion as the final sampling unit. Using the procedure, it was sampled 1,000 households for National Nutrition Survey in 1983.
