  • Galvanized steel has gone through a chemical process to keep it from corroding. The steel gets coated in layers of zinc because rust will not attack this protective metal. For countless outdoor, marine, or industrial applications, galvanized steel is an essential fabrication component. The reduction of the corrosion rate of zinc is an important topic. In the past, a very popular way to reduce the corrosion rate of zinc was to use chemical conversion layers based on $Cr^{+6}$. However, a significant problem that has arisen is that the use of chromium salts is now restricted because of environmental protection legislation. Therefore, it is very important to develop new zinc surface treatments that are environmentally friendly to improve the corrosion resistance of zinc and adhesion with a final organic protective layer. In this study, a Urethane solution (only Urethane 20 wt.%; S-700) and an organic/inorganic solution with Si (Si polysilicate 10 wt.% + Urethane 10 wt.%; LRO-317) are used. Based on the salt spray test of 72 h, S-700 and LRO-317 had a superior effect for the corrosion resistance on EGI and HDGI, respectively.

  • A pathogenesis-related protein (PgPR5) gene that isolated from the leaf of Panax ginseng was characterized. The ORF is 756 bp with a deduced amino acid sequence of 251 residues. The calculated molecular mass of the matured protein is approximately 27.5 kDa with a predicated isoelectric point of 7.80. A GenBank BlastX search revealed that the deduced amino acid of PgPR5 shares highest sequence similarity to PR5 of Actinidia deliciosa (80% identity, 87% similarity). PgPR5 has a C-terminal and N-terminal signal peptide, suggesting that it is a vacuolar secreted protein. The expression of PgPR5 under various environmental stresses was analyzed at different time points using real-time PCR. Our results reveal that PgPR5 is induced by salt stress, chilling stress, heavy metal, UV, and pathogen infection. These results suggest that the PgPR5 could play a role in the molecular defence response of ginseng to abiotic and pathogen attack. This is the first report of the isolation of PR5 gene from the P. ginseng.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of frost durability characteristics including freezing-thawing and de-icing salt scaling of the concrete for gutter of the road and marine structure. Mixtures were proportioned with the three level of water-binder ratio(W/B) and three binder compositions corresponding to Type I cement with 0%, 30% and 50% GGBS(Ground granulated blast furnace slag) replacement. Also, two different solutions of calcium chloride were used to evaluate their effect on the frost durability resistance. Specially, in case of complex of freezing and thawing with salt and carbonation, the deterioration of concrete surface is evaluated. Test results showed that the BFS30 and BFS50 mixture exhibited higher durability and lower mass loss values than those made with OPC mix and the use of GGBS can be used effectively in terms of economy and frost durability of the concrete to be in complex deterioration. Therefore, the resistance to complex deterioration with freezing-thawing was strongly influenced by the strength and the type of cement.

  • In this study, the diffusion characteristics were evaluated using the concrete mix design of nuclear safety-related structures. Among the concrete structures related to nuclear power safety, we selected the composition of intake and drainage structures that are immersed in seawater or located on the tidal platform and evaluated the chloride ion permeation resistance by compressive strength and electrical conductivity and the diffusion characteristics by immersion in salt water. analyzed. Compressive strength was measured on the 1st, 7th, 14th, 28th, 56th, and 91st days until the 91st day, which is the design standard strength of the nuclear power plant concrete structure, and chloride ion permeation resistance was evaluated on the 28th and 91st. After immersing the 28-day concrete specimens in salt water for 28 days, the diffusion coefficient was derived by collecting samples at different depths and analyzing the amount of chloride. As a result, it was found that after 28 days, the long-term strength enhancement effect of the nuclear power plant concrete mix with 20% fly ash replacement was higher than that of concrete using 100% ordinary Portland cement. It was also found that the nuclear power plant concrete mix has higher chloride ion permeation resistance, lower diffusion coefficient, and higher resistance to salt damage than the concrete mix using 100% ordinary Portland cement.

  • The induced chemical and salt solution in water or admixture are originated to the corrosion process of the steeo rebar. These liquids penetrate into concrete as the accompanied by the chemical reaction and cause to attack the steel rebar in concrete. Concrete surfaces which it exposed to deicing, water and sea water is allowed to enter the chlorides in the structures. To prevent from the source of corrosion and deterioration Is subjected to put an end to corrode or reduce to contaminate on the steel rebar. As this reason the MCI 2022 products are applied to the surface of concrete and steel rebar. The concrete samples were made of to the kind of four, i.e. RF, MR, MS, and MM. Corrosion inhibitor is applied to coat on the surface of concrete after it had been cured for 28days. Specimen were immersed in a 3.5% sodium chloride solution. Concrete specimen were tested to determine the changes of the resistance polarization, Rp, over a 22 weeks period. MCI 2022 is significantly shown the corrosion inhibition of steel rebar in 3.5% NaCl solution. In the each different concrete sample, MS and MM is seemed to be better than others. • Kinetics and mechanism for alkaline hydrolysis of C. I. Disperse Blue 79(B-79) which is 4-N, N-diacetoxyethyl-2-acylamino-5-ethoxy -2′-bromo-4′,6′-dinitroazobenzene were investigated. The color strength of B-79 in acetone/water solutions of various NaOH concentrations decreased continuously. The hydrolysis rate of B-79 increased with increasing alkali concentration and appeared following first order reaction. The observed rate constants for various concentrations of B-79 showed similar values, and B-79 was hydrolyzed by first order reaction for dye concentration. Therefore, it was confirmed that the overall reaction follow second order kinetics and proceed via S/sub n/2 reaction. From the study on kinetics and spectrometric analysis, it was proposed that the rate determining step of the hydrolysis reaction of B-79 is the nucleophilic substitution reaction - that is the reaction of the rapid attack of $OH^{-}$ on the carbon atom, which is in acceptor ring, adjacent to azo group to break the C-N bond. And it was also found that the final hydrolysis products of B-79 include both the acceptor ring in the form of sodium salt and the donor ring possessing 4-N,N-dihydroxyethyl group converted from 4-N,N-diacetoxyethyl group.

  • For nuclear concrete structures on the coast, the prevention and management against salt damage is needed because they are being under the influence of the sea water at all times. In general, the deterioration of the concrete is generated in concrete surface firstly and then extended into concrete gradually as its service life increases. Therefore, the protective layer on the concrete surface is needed to establish and manage the durability of concrete. To enhance the durability performance of the existing and new concrete, the development and application of a high-performance penetration sealer is needed. The sealer has to have the functions that are able to prevent the attack of the moisture, carbon dioxide, and harmful substance from the outside. Therefore, the aim of this project is to guarantee the long service-life and waterproof performance of a nuclear concrete structures by increasing the density of the existing and new concrete surface layer, and to enhance the dust-proof performance of the uncoating part of the nuclear safety-relative structures.

  • As a part of the effort for improving the durability design based on a set of the deem-to-satisfy specifications, it is important and primary to quantitatively identify the environmental impact to a target reinforced concrete structure. In this work, an effort is made to quantitatively calculate the environmental affecting factor with using a fuzzy inference that it indicates the severity of environmental impact to the exposed reinforced concrete structure or member. This system is composed of input region, output region and rule base. For developing the fuzzy inference system surface chloride concentration{chloride), cyclic degree of wet and dry(CWD), relative humidity(RH) and temperature (TEMP) were selected as the input parameter to environmental affecting factor(EAF) of output parameter. The Rules in inference engine are generated from the engineering knowledge and intuition based on some international code of practises as well as various researcher's experimental data. The devised fuzzy inference system was verified comparing the inferred value with the investigation data, and proved to be validated. Thus it is anticipated that this system for quantifying EAF is certain to be considered into the starting point to develop the performance-based durability design considering the service life of structure.
