  • After the launch of PCS in 1997, the mobile telephone industry has achieved a remarkable growth in market share and sales, and substituted for long-distance wire communication market. This study investigates the interrelationships between the two markets in transition and attempts to perform the statistical tests if the diffusion of mobile telephone was the direct factor for the reduction in sales of long-distance communication industry. The evidence of the direct substitution effect between the two markets is not likely to be found. Unlike the general expectations, the test result seems to prove the sustained initial complementary relation for awhile.

  • This study analyzes the innovation process of the value chain in the fashion industry. It examines the differences between traditional and FF-based methods that include value chain processes such as design, production, and distribution-sales process. In the literature review and case studies, general propositions were drawn from each innovative stage by a comparison analysis. First, design speed is the main factor to explain the impact of IT in the design process. Second, small quantity batch production becomes main stream by the adoption of a computer-integrated manufacturing system in the production process. Third, cost reduction and speedup improvement are results of innovation in the distribution process. Last, a customized interface provides important information that can integrate the value chain and make useful customer relationships in the sales process. Fast fashion is the best product of these procedural innovations in the overall value chain. Consequently, this study confirmed that the general propositions referred above were acceptable and adaptable in the case of ZARA in terms of fast fashion strategy.

  • The selection factors of service companies have changed in accordance with intensifying competition in the marine transportation service market and environment changes of transportation services. To explore the important factors of customer choice to marine transportation service, this study empirically examines the influence of these selection factors; service provision area, price competitiveness, corporate image, service expertise, and sales support, on transaction continuity through customers' perceived service value and satisfaction. Based on an online survey with those in the Korean marine transportation industry, this study conducted statistical analyses using structural equation modeling. Based on relevant previous studies, the current study constructed a total of 55 survey questions. Finally, 213 questionnaires were collected. Among the five selection factors, corporate image did not affect perceived service value, and price competitiveness was still the most important factor. However, service expertise and sales support were found to be more important factors than regional factors. In order to maintain transaction continuity, shipping companies should also strive to improve their service quality to their customers. In particular, service quality strategies focused on time and regional factors should develop to strategies with the key factors for the changed business environment.

  • Nothing is more incorrect than forecasting. Nevertheless, forecasting is one of the most important business activities for the effective management. There has been rapid changes of the growth rate in every respect of the Korean hospitaity industry, especially the hotel industry, before and after the 88 Olympic Games. Therefore, the hoteliers shall be in need of more-than-ever accourate demand forecasting for the more systematic management and control. Under the above circumstances, this study suggested the best forecasting technique and method for the better sales and operations of the hotel rooms. The number of rooms sold is selected as a dependent variable of this study which is regarded as the best representative factor of measuring the growth rate of the rooms division performance of the hotels. The first step was to select the most verifiable independent variable diferently from the other countries or other areas of Korea. As a result, the number of foreign visitors was chosen. Empirical research, i.e. correlation and multiple regression analysis, shows that this independent variable has a strong relationship with the dependent variable told above. The second procedure was to estimate the number of rooms will be sold in 1991 on the basis of the formula calculated through the multiple regression analysis. Time series technique was conducted using the data of the number of foreign visitors by purpose of travel from 1987 to 1990. For the more correct forecasting, however, it would be desirable to adopt the data from 1989 considering the product or the industry life cycle. In addition, deeper analysis for the monthly or seasonal forecasting method is needed as a future research.

The results are as follows. First, it was identified that there were not significant differences in consumers' demographic characteristics according to the level of internet shopping addiction consumer groups. Second, high level shopping addiction consumers were higher in pleasure/convenience seeking, fashion seeking, and brand seeking shopping orientations and in refreshing, non-plan shopping, recommendation from acquaintances, product stimulus, purchaser stimulus, sales promotion stimulus impulse buying orientations than low level consumers. • In the 100-year history of Korean films, Korean films have grown to more than 100 million viewers every year since 2012, and their total sales are estimated at 1 trillion. It is assumed that the influence on the popularity of Korean movies is related to 2012, when 60% of smartphone penetration rate and 30 million subscribers exceeded. As a result, before and after 2012, changes in movie boxing factor variables were needed, and the prediction model trained as a new independent variable was applied to actual data.

  • Eco-efficiency considers both environmental impacts and economic values. It is a useful tool for communicating with stakeholders for business decision making. This study evaluated the eco-efficiency factor (EEF) for the energy network of a dyeing company that supplies surplus heat to a neighboring apartment during the night. This symbiosis network is one of the eco-industrial park (EIP) projects in Korea and aims to benefit local residents and the industrial complex by utilizing surplus heat. In this study, two categories were annualized. The first quantified environmental burden based on $CO_2$ emissions and quantified product value in terms of steam sales. The second used a variety of environmental factors, such as fossil fuel, water and waste, to quantify environmental burden and used steam sales to quantify value. The EEF of the symbiosis network was 1.6, using the global warming impact, and determined using the multiple variable, was 1.33. This study shows that the EEF depends on variable details of environmental burden but the values of this project were very high contrast to other business or EIP project.

  • This paper estimates changes in the total factor productivity and technical efficiency change index and the technical change index using the Malmquist productivity index (MPI) in fishery-processed wholesale products over the time period spanning 2006-2008. The model considers a number of employees and operating costs as input factors, and sales and EBIT (earnings before tax and interest) as output factors. The results demonstrate that, between 2006 and 2007, there has generally been no technical progress, although a small improvement in productivity was detected in the sales scale of 10 billion won-50 billion won. Between 2007 and 2008, there was technical progress in the majority of DMU, except within the range of 20 million won-10 billion won. Wilcoxon's rank-sum test, however, demonstrates no statistically significant differences in productivity between the two periods.

  • The increasing importance of IT rose to the top of list of marketing managers' key concerns and IT has been used widely in performing various marketing activities and decisions. However, little was known about how to employ IT in various marketing activities and how to use IT as a strategic marketing means. Also, comprehensive empirical studies have rarely been conducted. This study examines the effectiveness of integrative use of marketing and IT. More specifically, this study attempts to identify the factors that influence the effectiveness of marketing information systems. The manufacturing firms listed in the Korean Stock Market were surveyed. the major findings of this study are as follows. First, the variables of organizational characteristics such as formalization of decision making cooperation between marketing function and IS function, and degree of decentralization were significantly related to the success of marketing information systems. The variables of user highly associated with the success of marketing information systems. Second, it was also found that the support capability of marketing information systems is the major factor of the effectiveness of marketing information systems. Third, the variables marketing function and IS function, and ratio of export sales to total sales were three variables such as marketing knowledge of marketing managers, cooperation were the main factors to affect the users' satisfaction with the information system. These results imply that, in order to increase the effectiveness of marketing information systems, a firm should enhance a cooperation between marketing function and IS function, diversify the support capability of IS, and strengthen the computer mind and computer knowledge of end-uses.
