  • stereolithography is a process used to rapidly produce polymer components directly from a computer representation of the part. There are several considerations to be made for the efficient use of the process. Especially, the necessity of support structures, which prevent the part from warping, sagging, or parachuting and toppling as the elevator moves up and down in the resin, is one concern. After solidification, the support structures must by removed in the end. Bacause this post-treatment process is often performed manually, the more the support structures, the more it increases the finishing operations. Especially for a complicated part, the removal operations may be difficult, take so much time, and even reduce the accuracy of the product. Thus it is important to efficiently generate the efficient support structure for each part geometry. This paper proposes a procedure to automatically generate the supprot structures focused on accuracy, efficiency, convenience, and generation speed.

  • Usually triangular patches are used to transfer geometric shape in Rpaid Prototyping CAM system. STL, a list of triangles, is de facto in RP industry. Because STL has no topology data, it can cause errornous results. So, STL should be verified before using. After adding support structures to anchor the part to the platform and to prevent sagging or distortion, slicing and layer by layer manufacturing process are done. But triangular patch is surface model and cannot provide dufficient information on geometry in the above processes. So, geometric modeling is necessary in verifying STL, adding support structures, and slicing. It is natural that triangle based modeling is the best when traingular patches are used as input. Considering support structures, solid and faces coexist in RP process. Therefore non-manifold modeler is required. In this study, triangle based non-manifold geometric modeling is proposed for RP system consitent with STL input.

  • Stereolithography is a process used to rapidly produce stereolithographic parts directly from three dimensional CAD models. However, design methodologies necessary to create components to be built by stereolithography are different from those required by conventional machining processes. A case in point is the nescessity of support structures, which are used to support a component during the building the build but are removed once building and curing are complete. Support structures are required to anchor the component to the platform and to prevent sagging or disortion. This paper deals with the specially maintained SupportMap data structure to find some region which need support structures. Interferences between support structures and parts, as well as among support structures are checked and statically stable regions are searched to remove the surplus support structures. Cross shaped tooth profiles are designed for easy eliminating the support structures.

  • The reason of the confusion of learners about the logic concepts such as implication, necessary condition and sufficient condition can be analyzed from the point of view of history of logic, discrepancy between ordinary language and formal logic, and reification which occurs in the process of cognition of discursive object and also indicates the necessity of a research. This study analysed the difficulties related to study and implication concept and attempted to the reflection of textbook and curriculum. Not that ordinary language makes the introduction of formal language easier, but that this study discussed the possibilities ordinary language intervenes the learning of formal language. This study additionally intended to understand learning difficulties of concrete subjects, abstract subjects and the gap between primary object and discursive object by understanding the process of sagging, encapsulating and reifying.

  • This paper describes the structural deflection analysis method and result of EMU(Electric Multiple Units). During manufacturing of rail passenger coaches, the underframe is assigned a camber before it is integrated with other major assemblies of shell such as the side panel, the end panel and the roof. The camber of the positive deflection given intentionally to compensate for the sagging so that it remains straight at the maximum load. But some manufacturers have insisted there has no relationship between the camber and the safety or life cycle and they expect to reduce a manufacturing cost without a camber. So this study analyzes whether the camber influences on the safety or life cycle of EMU structure under a full load and regular driving condition. The structural dynamics model for a railway vehicle is introduced.

  • The incidence of collision damage models on oil tanker and bulk carrier reliability is investigated considering the IACS deterministic model against GOALDS/IMO database statistics for collision events, substantiating the probabilistic model. Statistical properties of hull girder residual strength are determined by Monte Carlo simulation, based on random generation of damage dimensions and a modified form of incremental-iterative method, to account for neutral axis rotation and equilibrium of horizontal bending moment, due to cross-section asymmetry after collision events. Reliability analysis is performed, to investigate the incidence of collision penetration depth and height statistical properties on hull girder sagging/hogging failure probabilities. Besides, the incidence of corrosion on hull girder residual strength and reliability is also discussed, focussing on gross, hull girder net and local net scantlings, respectively. The ISSC double hull oil tanker and single side bulk carrier, assumed as test cases in the ISSC 2012 report, are taken as reference ships.

Also, it discusses electric machine and compensation equipment design methodology based on voltage quality effect assessment technology. Voltage quality standards, such as SEMI47, CBEMA, ITIC curve are regarded to examine the relation between time constants of load and sagging time of sag generator, the load(low voltage electric machinery) study. Voltage sag characteristics of loads, time constant and sag relation voltage-time operating limits are tested and verified.

  • The span record of cable-stayed bridges has exceeded 1,000 m, which makes research on the maximum possible span length of cable-stayed bridges an important topic in the engineering community. In this paper, span limit is discussed from two perspectives: the theoretical span limit determined by the strength-to-density ratio of the cable and girder, and the engineering span limit, which depends not only on the strength-to-density ratio of materials but also on the actual loading conditions. Closed form equations of both theoretical and engineering span limits of cable-stayed bridges determined by the cable and girder are derived and a detailed parametric analysis is conducted to assess the engineering span limit under current technical conditions. The results show that the engineering span limit of cable-stayed bridges is about 2,200 m based on materials used available today. The girder is the critical member restricting further increase in the span length; its compressive stress is the limiting factor. Approaches to increasing the engineering span limit are also presented based on the analysis results.
