  • Due to almost all tracks of new Kyoungbu high-speed lines(HSL) consisting of bridges and tunnels, HSR operational safety management is very important factor for passenger safety and preventing catastrophic event. Especially, it is important to approach the scene of the accident and assist in saving lives as soon as possible under emergency conditions. Therefore it is essential to prepare access methods and available resources in advance in order to support emergency correspodances promptly and effectively. This paper persents an application of geographical information system(GIS) for developing emergency management system as well as batabase system on tracks and facilities, electric/communication equipment and safety equipment required to support emergencies. The on-site information on the proximity of HSL is expressed on the numerical map, which can be helpful to call external supports such as medical service, local authorities, police offices, fire brigades, and etc. for the emergency situations.

  • Rail network authority have to do the safety ensuring activities including the maintenance of railway facility, integrated performance verification between the facilities and related rolling stock and safety inspections, etc. When constructing the new lines or revising the conventional lines, full system commissioning should be done before the revenue service with railway operator. To develop the optimal full system commissioning model, the status of domestic and foreign railway facility and railway accidents are analysed and the problems of the safety management are derived. As one of countermeasures for the problems, the procedures and criteria for the full system commissioning are developed.

  • The survey team has conducted the on-the-site inspection of 53 bridges to which LNG gas pipelines are attached, to ascertain their level of safety, durability and any defect by adapting a method of computer data input process and precision analysis. In this way, we could estimate an effective corrective action on the defective gas pipelines found through this survey. Our survey team has analyzed carefully these 2 defective lines selectively out of 10 lines, which are considered to be most seriously weak. According to our elaborate analysis these two pipelines go over 70% of the set standard stress based on our Safety Manual Scale. We have taken corrective actions on these lines by repairing/replacing/obsolete damaged lines to ensure the distress of the bridges involved with the pipelines and could secure safety.

  • This paper presents a new method that can efficiently solve the integrated problem of line balancing and model sequencing in mixed-model U-lines (MMULs). Balancing and sequencing problems are important for an efficient use of MMULs and are tightly related with each other. However, in almost all the existing researches on mixed-model production lines, the two problems have been considered separately. A genetic algorithm for balancing and sequencing in mixed-model U line is proposed. A presentation method and genetic operators are proposed. Extensive experiments are carried out to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm is promising in solution quality.

  • This paper is concerned with the integrated problem of line balancing and model sequencing in mixed model assembly lines(MMALBS), which is important to efficient utilization of the lines. In the problem, we deal with the objective of minimizing the overall line length To apply the GAs to MMALBS problems, we suggest a GA representation which suitable for its problems, an efficient decoding technique for the objective, and genetic operators which produce feasible offsprings. Extensive experiments are carried out to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm. The computational results show that our algorithm is promising in solution quality.

  • The sequence which minimizes overall utility work in car assembly lines reduces the cycle time, the number of utility workers, and the risk of conveyor stopping. This study suggests mathematical formulation of the sequencing problem to minimize overall utility work, and present a genetic algorithm which can provide a near optimal solution in real time. To apply a genetic algorithm to the sequencing problem in car assembly lines, the representation, selection methods, and genetic parameters are studied. Experiments are carried out to compare selection methods such as roullette wheel selection, tournament selection and ranking selection. Experimental results show that ranking selection method outperforms the others in solution quality, whereas tournament selection provides the best performance in computation time.

  • Recently, concerns about health risks exposed to electromagnetic fields have been brought in the safety of electric power lines. A number of governmental and international organizations have advised to avoid the magnetic field exposure to the schools and residential areas. Some epidemiologic studies showed that electromagnetic fields should not exceed the exposure limits of 2-3mG to the people living near high-voltage transmission lines. In this study, the principles, ranges and survey methods of the assessment for powerfrequency electromagnetic fields were reviewed from the relevant research papers and documents. The ranges of electromagnetic fields were determined from 50m to 100m and have been defined according to the properties of each electric power lines and a new methodology was suggested in this study. It would be necessary to develop and improve specific assessment methods for various high-voltage transmission lines projects.

  • A numerical analysis has been perfonned to estimate the effect of turbulent penetration and thermal stratified flow in the branch lines piping. This phenomenon of thermal stratification are usually observed in the piping lines of the safety related systems and may be identified as the source of fatigue in the piping system due to the thermal stress loading which are associated with plant operating modes. The turbulent penetration length reaches to $1^{st}$ valve in safety injection piping from reactor coolant system (RCS) at normal operation for nuclear power plant when a coolant does not leak out through valve. At the time, therefore, the thermal stratification does not appear in the piping between RCS piping and $1^{st}$ valve of safety injection piping. When a coolant leak out through the $1^{st}$ valve by any damage, however, the thermal stratification can occur in the safety injection piping. At that time, the maximum temperature difference of fluid between top and bottom in the piping is estimated about $50^{\circ}C$.
