The determination of lot sizes in prevailing inventory problems has been made with constant safety stock over the planning horizon. But, it is more profitable to accommodate the safety stock to dynamically fluctuating demands. The objective of this paper is to study the method to determine the dynamic safety stock and lot sizing rules depending on the actual customer demands. The last period or highly fluctuating period during the consumption of a lot is the most critical one to stock-out. It means that such periods must be given more attentions. Some dynamic methods to control safety stock are proposed with viewpoints of the time, quantity, and time-quantity. Simulation results show that lot sizing methods with dynamic safety stock reduce about 10% of average total cost compared to those with constant safety stock.
The domestic construction industry is becoming larger, high-rise and specialized. However, safety consciousness is still staying in low levels and falling accidents are apt to rise compared to other industries. So, the new way of safety management is required for reducing of the construction falling accidents. In this paper, we evaluate appropriateness of safety management on construction sites utilizing USN using smart safery equipment. Thus, we calculate loss costs of falling accidents considering accident rates and costs of the USN using smart safery equipment installation then compare both calculated costs. This research aims to propose the method for reduction of construction accidents in addition to conventional safety control methods by analyzing the propriety of applying USN using smart safery equipment on construction sites.
Growing qualitative and cost-based competition with the roads and air modes will be oblige the railways to make better use of their existing infrastructure than present. Development and use of new signalling and safety systems and introduction of wide-area control systems may make it possible to operate railway efficiently. Therefore. a comprehensive series of measures must be developed in the fields of technology, planning and management, measures which can operate today's korean railway systems intelligently and achieve cost savings, better quality services and improved results.
This study deals with new application method of the connecting tuned mass damper (CTMD) system for efficient vibration control of adjacent twin structures which have the same dynamic properties such as natural frequency and damping characteristics to each other. In the existing research, the vibration control of the twin structures has a limit to the application of the conventional damper-connection method of the twin structures. Due to the same frequency characteristics leading to the equally vibrating behaviors, it is impossible to apply the conventional connection method of the adjacent structures. In order to overcome these limitations induced by the symmetry of the dynamic characteristics, we propose a new CTMD-based control system that adopts the conventional connection configuration but unbalances the symmetric system by arranging the control device asymmetrically and then can finally achieve the efficient control performance. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed system, numerical simulations of the optimally designed proposed system have been performed in comparison with the optimal design results of the existing independent single tuned mass damper (STMD) control system and the another optimal control system previously proposed by the same author, hereafter called CTMD-OsTMD. The comparative results of the control performances among STMD, CTMD-OsTMD and the proposed CTMD systems verified that the newly proposed control system can be a control-efficient and cost-effective system for vibration suppression of the two adjacent twin structures.
The Dual Unit Optimizer 2000 MWe (DUO2000) is put forward as a new design concept for large power nuclear plants to cope with economic and safety challenges facing the $21^{st}$ century green and sustainable energy industry. DUO2000 is home to two nuclear steam supply systems (NSSSs) of the Optimized Power Reactor 1000 MWe (OPR1000)-like pressurized water reactor (PWR) in single containment so as to double the capacity of the plant. The idea behind DUO may as well be extended to combining any number of NSSSs of PWRs or pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs), or even boiling water reactors (BWRs). Once proven in water reactors, the technology may even be expanded to gas cooled, liquid metal cooled, and molten salt cooled reactors. With its in-vessel retention external reactor vessel cooling (IVR-ERVC) as severe accident management strategy, DUO can not only put the single most querulous PWR safety issue to an end, but also pave the way to very promising large power capacity while dispensing with the huge redesigning cost for Generation III+ nuclear systems. Five prototypes are presented for the DUO2000, and their respective advantages and drawbacks are considered. The strengths include, but are not necessarily limited to, reducing the cost of construction by decreasing the number of containment buildings from two to one, minimizing the cost of NSSS and control systems by sharing between the dual units, and lessening the maintenance cost by uniting the NSSS, just to name the few. The latent threats are discussed as well.
In this paper, the control technique of the stepping motor using back electromotive force(B-EMF) without encoder is investigated. The stepping motor generally uses the rotary encoder to detect the rotor position. Since this method increases the cost and the motor configuration size, the new closed-loop control method applied for the B-EMF was implemented by using current detect circuit, AD-converter, and micro controller unit(MCU). The control loop of stepping motor became very simplified. The current change of stepping motor measured by the amplifier was measured and analyzed, when the missing step is occurred. Based on the data from current feedback, position errors were compensated and confirmed by using AD-converter.
This paper proposes actuator fault detection and adaptive fault-tolerant control algorithms using performance index and human-like learning for longitudinal autonomous vehicles. Conventional longitudinal controller for autonomous driving consists of supervisory, upper level and lower level controllers. In this paper, feedback control law and PID control algorithm have been used for upper level and lower level controllers, respectively. For actuator fault-tolerant control, adaptive rule has been designed using the gradient descent method with estimated coefficients. In order to adjust the control parameter used for determination of adaptation gain, human-like learning algorithm has been designed based on perceptron learning method using control errors and control parameter. It is designed that the learning algorithm determines current control parameter by saving it in memory and updating based on the cost function-based gradient descent method. Based on the updated control parameter, the longitudinal acceleration has been computed adaptively using feedback law for actuator fault-tolerant control. The finite window-based performance index has been designed for detection and evaluation of actuator performance degradation using control error.
Safety is emphasized in nuclear power plant system for its characteristic. One of the most important systems to guarantee the safety of nuclear power plant is the PPS(Power protection system). The measurement control system includes PPS, which is similar to the human nervous system, is very important factor not only for the safety but also for the operation. Therefore, developing a technology to level up the performance of measurement system and reliability of the plant will bring cost-effective and safe generation of nuclear power. In this study, I researched composition of digitized PPS and algorithm for cyclic inspection.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the importance of the construction work of apartment buildings. The construction work operation was divided into five major tasks, which include: Schedule Control (P'1 - P5) Construction Management (C'1 - C'5), Environmental Management (E'1 - E'3), and Quality Management. Finally, this study derived major construction execution tasks through correlation between construction work and the original index and t-test.
Efforts to reduce on-site safety incidents have expanded, leading to active research in this domain. However, a systematic analysis to improve the utility of technology is lacking. In this study, we conducted a survey on the various institutional and technical improvement measures to promote the application of smart construction safety technology over three years after the implementation of the "Smart Safety Equipment Support Project." The results showed that financial constraint was the primary obstacle in the adoption of this innovation. Fostering a flexible environment in the utilization of management fees and financial support of projects was determined to aid in the extensive application of the technology. Ensuring cost efficiency and user-friendliness were principally necessary for technical enhancements in the smart construction safety technology. Technologies, such as VR/AR safety education, real-time location tracking, wearable devices, and innovation on streamlining safety-related work efficiency, had been anticipated to contribute to on-site safety. Operating a smart safety control center was expected to be beneficial in the systematic securing of data and reduction of safety blind spots. Effective methods had been suggested to overcome the barriers that hindered the development and application of smart construction safety technology. This study facilitates in the technological improvements in this field.
