  • As a preliminary study of enter or leaving traffic patterns of the Korea main port, port Management Information System (Port-MIS) data was used to check the volume of vessels entering and leaving the port of Busan, and three consecutive days from each seasons were selected for study. Selected 12-day General Information Center on Maritime Safety & Security (GICOMS) data was also used to analyze the traffic pattern in the main traffic lane of Busan port for dangerous goods carrier. Also, the distance between dangerous goods carriers and Oryukdo breakwater of east breakwater in the main traffic lane was analyzed. Collision probability was estimated using the cumulative probability distribution function of the normal distribution for the maritime traffic safety audit scheme based on the assumption that a ship's trajectory has a normal distribution for a section of the route. However, in case of entry or leaving thorough the Oryukdo breakwater and entry thorough the east breakwater, ship's sailing trajectories were revealed not to follow a normal distribution via regularity testing using a KS-test and SW-test. Especially in the north port, the tendency of the right side of the ship to pass was remarkable. It is desirable to develop a traffic model suitable for the characteristics of the port rather than to apply general traffic theories, and to apply this model to a maritime traffic safety diagnosis, so further research is needed.

  • A new formula is proposed for the fundamental period of high-rise residential concrete shear-wall (SW) buildings. This formula, developed on the basis of dynamics with the recorded fundamental period during the recent earthquakes, can consider the wall stiffness with respect to any direction. To verify the proposed formula, the fundamental period of 10 sample buildings, measured during construction, is compared with the predicted fundamental period. Furthermore, the empirical formulas presented in the building codes KBC 2009 and ASCE 7-10, are also compared with the proposed formula to show a rationality of the proposed formula. The comparison results show that the proposed formula not only can rationally consider the characteristics of each shear-wall, but that it also accurately predicts the fundamental period of the buildings.

  • This study explores the effects of STEAM program using Arduino on preservice science teachers toward their STEAM core competencies. The STEAM program using Arduino consists of four stages: presentation of situation, creative design, emotional touch, and evaluation. The preservice science teachers learned the theoretical backgrounds of STEAM and Arduino. Then, they were given the chance to think about an environmental issue, which is fine dust. The preservice teachers designed an air cleaner and a fine dust measuring instrument using Arduino. The preservice science teachers also produced the air cleaner and the measuring instrument using Arduino. They measured the level of fine dust in the classroom before and after the use of the air cleaner. That is, the preservice teachers experienced each stage of STEAM: seriousness of fine dust, design and production of the measuring instrument of fine dust and air cleaner, and evaluation of the effectiveness of air cleaner. Further, they reflected on their experiences of STEAM program using Arduino. The results indicate that these preservice science teachers statistically improved communication competency, problem-solving competency, gathering information competency, logical analytical thinking competency, and creativity competency. However, there were no statistical improvements on teamwork competency and self-development competency. This study suggests that experiencing STEAM program using Arduino is valuable for the preservice science teachers to develop STEAM core competencies and further implement STEAM program their science classes in the future.

  • Many companies are executing big data analysis and utilization projects to legitimize the development of new business areas or conversion of management or technical strategies. In Korea and abroad, however, such projects are failing because they are not completed within specified deadlines, which is not unrelated to the current situation in which the knowledge base for big data project risk management from an engineering perspective is grossly lacking. As such, the current study analyzes the risk factors of big data implementation and utilization projects, in addition to finding risk factors that are highly important. To achieve this end, the study extracts project risk factors via literature review, after which they are grouped using affinity methodology and sifted through expert surveys. The deduced risk factors are structuralize using factor analysis to develop a table that categorizes various types of big data project risk factors. The current study is significant that in it provides a basis for developing basic control indicators related to risk identification, risk assessment, and risk analysis. The findings from the study contribute greatly to the success of big data projects, by providing theoretical basis regarding efficient big data project risk management.

  • In this paper, a case study of basic data science practice education for field teachers and pre-service teachers was studied. In this paper, for basic data science education, spreadsheet software was used as a data collection and analysis tool. After that, we trained on statistics for data processing, predictive hypothesis, and predictive model verification. In addition, an educational case for collecting and processing thousands of public big data and verifying the population prediction hypothesis and prediction model was proposed. A 34-hour, 17-week curriculum using a spreadsheet tool was presented with the contents of such basic education in data science. As a tool for data collection, processing, and analysis, unlike Python, spreadsheets do not have the burden of learning program- ming languages and data structures, and have the advantage of visually learning theories of processing and anal- ysis of qualitative and quantitative data. As a result of this educational case study, three predictive hypothesis test cases were presented and analyzed. First, quantitative public data were collected to verify the hypothesis of predicting the difference in the mean value for each group of the population. Second, by collecting qualitative public data, the hypothesis of predicting the association within the qualitative data of the population was verified. Third, by collecting quantitative public data, the regression prediction model was verified according to the hypothesis of correlation prediction within the quantitative data of the population. And through the satisfaction analysis of pre-service and field teachers, the effectiveness of this education case in data science education was analyzed.

  • This study warns of the dangers of pre-marketing that is too preoccupied with raising market expectations before release at the film market level, and provides practical implications that the lower the level of mismatch of market expectations, the more ideal performance can be achieved. The level of expectation before release and satisfaction after release were measured by each movie rating, and the difference was calculated as the inconsistency of expectations. In raising expectations before the release, the expert rating among the star power, director power, expert rating, and number of screens has a significant influence. It was confirmed that the level of expectation before the release had a positive effect on the rating after the release, but had a negative effect on the level of discordance. In addition, the hypothesis that the higher the expectation level before the release, the greater the inconsistency, and the hypothesis that the higher the expectation inconsistency has a negative effect on the box office level is supported. This provides various implications for marketing carried out before or after the release of a movie to film-related practitioners for products with low involvement or emotional content such as movies.
