Execution of Mass Concrete for Mat Foundation Using Setting Time Difference with Super Retarding Agent for Reducing Hydration Heat (초지연제의 응결시간차 공법을 이용한 기초 매트 콘크리트의 수화열 저감 시공)

  • In this paper, field application of mass concreting using super retarding agent(SRA) are discussed based on setting. time difference with SRA in big discount market in Chongju. Mechanical and physical properties of .concrete are investigated. Temperature history of concrete is also measured. Slump and air content meet the requirement of target value. Compressive strength of concrete exceeded the nominal strength with 24MPa. Compressive strength of SRA concrete is higher than that of plain concrete by about $3\~4\%$. For temperature history, peak temperature of concrete at middle section at top concrete layer reached $49.6^{\circ}C$ within 24hours, and at bottom concrete layer, $54.6^{\circ}C$ within 42hours. Based on the naked eye's observation, no crack was found at mass concrete.

Reduction of Hydration Heat in Division-Placed Mass Concrete Considering the Difference of Setting Time in Super Retarding Agents (초지연제의 응결시간차에 따라 분할타설된 매스 콘크리트의 수화열 저감)

  • This study is designed to reduction of hydration heat of 4 layer division-placed mass concrete considering the difference of setting time of super retarding agent. According to the results, peak temperature of plain concrete by hydration heat show $63^{\circ}C$ around the age of 1 days. Hydration heat is lowest in the bottom layer, and highest in the middle of 3rd layer from the bottom. Hydration heat of mock up structure, which is division-placed at the same interval of 1 and 2 days by setting time difference of super retarding agent, is highest in the bottom layer because after peak temperature of 4th layer, hydration reaction progresses in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer. But in mock up structure which is division-placed at the various interval. peak temperature by hydration heat is reduced by about $13^{\circ}C$, compared with plain concrete because after first peak hydration heat of 4th layer (plain concrete), hydration reaction progresses after the drop of hydration heat in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer.

  • In road pavements, it is known that cement concrete pavement has superior durability, safety in compared with asphalt concrete pavement. But in reparing pavement cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixied concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We aim to develope specific cement and concrete developing 1 day strength of over 300 kg/$cm^{2}$ to open the road within one day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour that can be used as ready mixed concrete. In this study, we Produced cement using rapid-hardening cement, Hauyne clinker, anhydride gypsum and accelerator and studied on its properties. The concrete strength was over 300 kg/$cm^{2}$ at 1 day and 550 kg/$cm^{2}$ at 28 day and workable time was maintained for over 1 hour.

But in repairing pavement, cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixed concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We developed special cement developing 1 day strength of over 30.0N/$mm^2$ to open the road within 1 day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour so that it can be used as ready mixed concrete. We performed experimental overlay construction with concrete and evaluated the properties of the fresh and hardened concrete. The flexural strength was over 5.0N/$mm^2$ and the compressive strength was over 30N/$mm^2$ at 1 day. So it is thought that the road can be open to traffic within 1 day after placement.

  • As the construction site has become narrower recently, the importance of mass concrete is naturally being highlighted as skyscrapers become popular. However, it is not possible to install the entire volume per day if the mass concrete is installed due to the Remicon 8⦁5 system and the 52-hour workweek system. When the mass concrete base is divided into several days, cold joints occur because the consolidation of joints is not integrated due to different degree of hardening in the case of the previous layer and the next day. As a result, existing research has shown that if super retarding agent are mixed into Ready Mixed Concrete (hereinafter referred to as Remicon) using sugar as a raw material to delay the curing time of concrete, cold joints are inhibited and cracks are inhibited by reducing the initial hydration heat.
