  • SunPower's corporate mission is to reduce the installed cost of solar electricity 50% by 2012. As part of that mission, the company is continually exploring novel technologies that might enable progress towards the goal. This paper describes SunPower's efforts to decrease the levelized cost of electricity for solar power plants through the use of bifacial cell and system technology. The results of the first production run of SunPower bifacial cells and modules are presented. Future bifacial system development plans are reviewed.

  • PTC용 태양추적장치는 최대 집열을 위하여 PTC를 항상 태양광이 입사되는 방향으로 일치시키기 위한 자동제어시스템이다. 본 연구는 마이크로프로세서를 사용하는 PTC용 1축 태양추적장치의 개발에 관한 것이다. 개발된 태양추적장치는 태양 위치를 판별하는 태양 센서와 DC 모터 위치제어기로 구성되어 있으며, 80c196KC를 사용하는 제어장치는 아날로그 입력 장치, 24V DC 서보모터제어기, 디지털 I/O로 구성되어 있다. 태양센서는 photodiode를 사용하여 제작되었으며, 태양센서의 법선 방향으로부터 ${\pm}50^{\circ}$ 이내에 위치하는 태양을 감지할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 태양추적장치는 현재 한국에너지기술연구소에 설치되어 있는 PTC에서 사용되고 있으며, 태양추적 정확도에 관한 연구가 현재 진행되고 있다.

A Solar Cell Based Coarse Sun Sensor for a Small LEO Satellite Attitude Determination

  • The sun is a useful reference direction because of its brightness relative to other astronomical objects and its relatively small apparent radius as viewed by spacecrafts near the Earth. Most satellites use solar power as a source of energy, and so need to make sure that solar panels are oriented correctly with respect to the sun. Also, some satellites have sensitive instruments that must not be exposed to direct sunlight. For all these reasons, sun sensors are important components in spacecraft attitude determination and control systems. To minimize components and structural mass, some components have multiple purposes. The solar cells will provide power and also be used as coarse sun sensors. A coarse Sun sensor is a low-cost attitude determination sensor suitable for a wide range of space missions. The sensor measures the sun angle in two orthogonal axes. The Sun sensor measures the sun angle in both azimuth and elevation. This paper presents the development of a model to determine the attitude of a small cube-shaped satellite in space relative to the sun's direction. This sensor helps small cube-shaped Pico satellites to perform accurate attitude determination without requiring additional hardware.

안정제로서 변성전분과 카라기난 혼합물의 물리적 특성 및 응용 (The Rheological Properties and Applications of Modified Starch and Carrageenan Complex as Stabilizer)

  • 변성전분과 카라기난을 혼합한 혼합안정제의 식품산업으로의 응용성을 확대해 나갈 목적으로 국내외 시판중인 몇종의 변성전분과 카라기난 종류에 따른 과일시럽 및 호상요구르트에 첨가시 물성의 특서에 대해 검토하였다. 변성전분 4종(Sun Kolguard, Sun Registar, Mira Cleer340, Maps449)은 5% 수용액 상태에서 $66^{\circ}C$에서 모구 호화하였으며 호화후의 점도는 Sun Kolguard가 가장 높았다. 또한, Sun Kolguard와 카라기난을 각각 혼합하였을 때 점도상승효과는 5% 수용액 상태에서 Sun Kolguard와 카라기난과의 비율이 90 : 10일 때 가장 컸으며 iota가 lambda보다 더 큰 상승효과를 나타내었다. 과일 시럽에 안정제로서 변성전분, 펙틴 및 카라기난을 각각 또는 혼합첨가하여 제조한 과일(복숭아)시럽의 점도를 비교한 결과, 변성전분 중에서 Sun Kolguard가 가장 높았고, sun Kolguard에 카라기난이나 펙틴을 혼합 사용했을 때 kappa 카라기난, 펙틴, iota 카라기난 등이 점도가 높게 나타났다. 그러나 kappa 카라기난은 낮은 농도에서 gel화 하고, 펙틴은 충격에 의해 gel이 파괴될 경우 점도가 상당히 낮아지는 특징으로 인해 iota 카라기난이 시럽 제조용으로 가장 적합하였다. Sun Kolguard와 iota 카라기난의 혼합(90 : 10)시 전분의 호화온도는 $82^{\circ}C$ 부근이었으며, 냉각시 점도상승력이 Sun Kolguard 단독사용시 보다 훨씬 우수하였다. 시럽을 첨가한 호상요구르트의 저자조건에 따른 점도변화를 측정한 결과, Sun Kolguard와 iota 호상요구르트가 온도변화에 따라 점도변화가 적고 높은 호상요구르트가 온도변화에 따라 점도변화가 적고 높은 점도를 나타냄으로써 호상 요구르트 제조에 적합한 시럽에 첨가되는 혼합 안정제로 생각되었으며, 비율에 있어서는 Sun Kolguard와 iota carrageenan을 90 : 10으로 섞는 것이 좋을 것으로 생각 되었다.

Outdoor Workers' Use of Sun Protection at Work and Leisure

  • Background: Outdoor workers are at risk of high ultraviolet radiation exposure, and may have difficulty using sun protection. The objectives were to determine the prevalence of sun protection behaviors in a sample of outdoor construction workers, and to assess which factors predict better sun protection practices. Methods: Participants were recruited via construction unions. Workers answered a questionnaire on demographics, skin cancer risk, sun protection behaviors, and job. Sun protection behavior scores (from questions on sunscreen use, sleeved shirt, hat, shade seeking, sunglasses) were calculated by converting Likert-scale answers to scores from 0 to 4, and taking the mean (separately for work and leisure). Determinants of sun protection behavior scores were examined for work and leisure using generalized linear models. Results: Seventy-seven workers had complete questionnaire data (participation 98%). Sun protection behaviors used most often were hats (79% often/always) and sleeved shirts (82% often/always); least prevalent were shade-seeking (8% often/always) and sunscreen (29% often/always). For both work and leisure scores, the strongest predictor was skin type, with fairer-skinned individuals having higher sun protection behavior scores. Workers had higher scores at work than on weekends. Workplaces that required hats and sleeved shirts for safety purposes had higher protection behavior scores. Conclusion: This high-participation rate cohort helps characterize sun protection behaviors among outdoor workers. Workers practiced better sun protection at work than on weekends, suggesting that workplace policies supportive of sun protection could be useful for skin cancer prevention in the construction industry.

광특성분석시스템(BCS)을 이용한 헬리오스타트 태양추적오차의 측정 및 보정 (Measurement and Compensation of Heliostat Sun Tracking Error Using BCS (Beam Characterization System))

  • Heliostat, as a concentrator to reflect the incident solar energy to the receiver, is the most important system in the tower-type solar thermal power plant since it determines the efficiency and ultimately the overall performance of solar thermal power plant. Thus, a good sun tracking ability as well as a good optical property of it are required. Heliostat sun tracking system uses usually an open loop control system. Thus the sun tracking error caused by heliostat's geometrical error, optical error and computational error cannot be compensated. Recently use of sun tracking error model to compensate the sun tracking error has been proposed, where the error model is obtained from the measured ones. This work is a development of heliostat sun tracking error measurement and compensation method using BCS (Beam Characterization System). We first developed an image processing system to measure the sun tracking error optically. Then the measured error is modeled in linear polynomial form and neural network form trained by the extended Kalman filter respectively. Finally error models are used to compensate the sun tracking error. We also developed the necessary image processing algorithms so that the heliostat optical properties such as maximum heat flux intensity, heat flux distribution and total reflected heat energy could be analyzed. Experimentally obtained data shows that the heliostat sun tracking accuracy could be dramatically improved using either linear polynomial type error model or neural network type error model. Neural network type error model is somewhat better in improving the sun tracking performance. Nevertheless, since the difference between two error models in compensation of sun tracking error is small, a linear error model is preferred in actual implementation due to its simplicity.

Near-Infrared Spectral Characteristics in Presence of Sun Glint Using CASI-1500 Data in Shallow Waters

  • Sun glint correction methods of hyperspectral data that have been developed so far have not considered the various situations and are often adequate for only certain conditions. Also there is an inaccurate assumption that the signal in NIR wavelength is zero. Therefore, this study attempts to analyze the NIR spectral properties of sun glint effect in coastal waters. For the analysis, CASI-1500 airborne hyperspectral data, bathymetry data and in-situ data obtained at coastal area near Sin-Cheon, Jeju Island, South Korea were used. The spectral characteristics of radiance and reflectance at the five NIR wavelengths (744 nm, 758 nm, 772 nm, 786 nm, and 801 nm) are analyzed by using various statistics, spatial and spectral variation of sun-glinted area under conditions of the bottom types of benthos, barren rocks and sand with similar water depth. Through the quantitative analysis, we found that the relation of water depth or bottom type with sun glint is relatively less which is a similar result with the previous studies. However the sun glint are distributed similarly with the patterns of the direction of wave propagation. It is confirmed that the areas with changed direction of wave propagation were not affected by the sun glint. The spatial and spectral variations of radiance and reflectance are mainly caused by the effect of sun glint and waves. The radiance or reflectance of more sun-glinted areas are increased approximately 1.5 times and the standard deviations are also increased three times compared to the less sun glinted areas. Through this study, the further studies of sun glint correction method in coastal water using the patterns of wave propagation and diffraction will be placed.

Sun 등이 제안한 착용 가능한 토큰 시스템의 취약점 분석에 관한 연구 (Weaknesses of the new design of wearable token system proposed by Sun et al.)

  • Sun 등은 노트북이나 PDA와 같은 모바일 장치의 보안을 위해, 착용 가능한 토큰 시스템을 제안하였다. 본 논문을 통해, Sun 등의 시스템이 오프라인 패스워드 추측 공격, 그리고 기지평문 공격에 기반한 중간자 공격에 취약하다는 것을 보여준다. 우리는 성능저하를 최소화 하는 동시에, Sun 등의 시스템의 보안 문제점을 극복하는 해결책을 제시한다. Sun 등의 시스템과 비교하여, 제안하는 프로토콜에서는 연산 능력이 부족한 토큰의 경우 곱셈 연산이 1회 추가되었으며, 연산 능력이 우수한 노트북, PDA와 같은 모바일 장치에서는 지수승 연산이 1회 추가되었다. 제안하는 프로토콜에서는 Sun 등의 시스템에 존재하는 보안 문제점 뿐 아니라, 알려진 어떠한 보안 문제점도 존재하지 않는다. 즉, 제안하는 시스템은 최소한의 추가적인 오버헤드 만으로, Sun 등의 보안 취약점을 모두 극복하였다.
