유입수의 기계적 여과 후 자외선 살균에 의한 넙치 치어의 질병 저감 사례 연구 (Effect of UV disinfection following mechanical filtration for influent seawater on decrease in disease outbreak of juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus))

  • 본 연구는 기계적 여과 후 자외선 살균처리한 양식장 유입수의 살균효율과 넙치 치어의 질병저감 효과를 평가하였다. 유입해수의 살균효율은 99.27%로 조사되었고, 기계적 여과 및 UV 살균처리 해수로 4개월 동안 사육한 넙치 치어는 대조구에 비하여 20~30%의 폐사율 저감효과가 관찰되었다.

Effects of Package Materials on Quality Change of Pine Bud Beverage Under Ultraviolet Light

  • The effects of packaging materials on preserving the functional component of pine bud beverage stored under UV (ultraviolet) light exposure conditions were studied. The order of UV light blocking properties of the selected packages was: opaque can> opaque PET (polyethylene terepthalate) with green lamination=transparent PET with 10% PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) blending> transparent PET, and did not depend on film thickness in specified range. At 20${^{\circ}C}$, the order of preserving degree of original color and endobornyl acetate, which is quality index of pine bud beverage, was the same as above. Exposure to UV light can cause of deterioration of functional food components, but green color lamination and blending of PEN materials with transparent PET help to preserve the UV sensitive pine bud beverage components. However, the treated PET bottles have poorer preservation capabilities than the opaque cans. Transparent PET with PEN blending, in particular, will be very useful packaging material for colorful functional beverage preservation by helping to protect the ingredients while attracting consumer attention.

  • The UV laser trimming can be useful to have an accurate performance specification of the passive waveguide devices. In order to measure the change of the refractive index of polymer overclad layer under the irradiation of uv light in a high precision Bragg grating is fabricated on the silica core of planar waveguide and the corresponding transmittance spectrum was analyzed. An effective refractive index change of $4.7x10^{-5}$ was obtained for a straight waveguide when its $60{\mu}m$-thick overclad was irradiated by UV laser pulses of its total fluence 24 $J/cm^2$.

Intrinsic UV Reflection and Fluorescence Studies for Water Sorption in Polycarbonate, Polyurethane and Poly(Ethylene Terephthalate) Films

  • Intrinsic UV reflection and fluorescence behaviors of polycarbonate, polyurethane and poly(ethylene terephthalate) films were investigated in order to characterize the interaction of water in these films. During water sorption process, UV reflection spectra of polycarbonate and polyurethane films showed little peak position changes. Fluorescence emission spectra of polycarbonate films showed red spectral shifts from 332 nm with water immersion time. This red-shifted peak could be due to phenyl-2-phenoxybenzoate, which is one of the major thermal degradation products in polycarbonate. Fluorescence peaks of polyurethane films appeared at two different positions and the ratio of these peak intensities increased with increasing immersion time. In the case of PET films, the UV reflection spectrum showed the peak intensity around 340 nm to change in response to water sorption. The fluorescence near 388 nm probably due to ground state dimer exhibited sensitivity with water sorption, when excited at 340 nm.

  • Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is associated with the development of adverse effects in skin. Among the three types of UV rays, UV-B causes the most damaging effects, inducing sunburn and penetrating the outer skin, resulting in DNA mutations and skin cancer. The objective of this study was to formulate a UV-protective film by incorporating Ecklonia cava extracts. Cells covered with the film were exposed to UV-B (50, 80, and $100mJ/cm^2$). To determine the protective effects of the film, we evaluated cell viability, intracellular ROS generation, and apoptosis. We found that all E. cava extracts absorbed UV light and exhibited protective effects against UV-B-induced photodamage. Among the protective films examined in this study, that incorporating an E. cava 70% ethanol extract (70EX) formed the most effective protection against UV-B in HaCaT cells. These findings suggest that the application of film containing E. cava extract could prevent UV-B-induced photodamage, and offer protection against the detrimental effects of UV radiation, thus maintaining physiological condition.

자외선차단 기능을 갖는 폴리실세스퀴옥산 구형 입자의 개발 (Development of UV-screening Polysilsesquioxane Spheres)

  • 자외선 차단제로 널리 사용되는 p-methoxycinnamoyl기를 함유하는 폴리실세스퀴옥산 전구체를 합성하고 그로부터 자외선을 흡수 차단하는 구 형태의 입자를 제조하였다. 여러 가지 제조 조건을 조절하여 100nm에서 수 ${\mu}m$ 사이의 직경을 가진 구를 제조하였으며, 얻어진 구의 피부 도포와 자외선차단 실험을 수행하였다. 직영이 대략 $0.6{\mu}m$인 구를 $10\%$의 농도로 바셀린에 분산시킨 제재를 손등에 도포하였을 때 백화현상이 나타나지 않았고 $10\%$ 농도 바셀린 제재의 자외선차단지수, SPF는 5.7로 양호한 편이었다. 또한 자외선을 흡수 차단하는 폴리실세스퀴옥산 구는 옥틸메톡시신나메이트 자외선차단제에 비하여 농도 증가시 SPF의 상승효과가 커, 자외선차단용 기능성화장품 신소재로의 사용이 기대된다.

Synchronized Expression of Two Bombyx mori Caspase Family Genes, ice-2 and ice-5 in Cells Induced by Ultraviolet Irradiation

  • The caspase family proteins play an important role in programmed cell death (apoptosis). To date, the expression profiles of the caspase family genes in Bombyx mori (Bm) are poorly known. In this study, we examined the expression profiles of two novel Bm caspase family genes (ice-2 and ice-5), the potential change of the mitochondrial membrane and the morphology in Bm cells after stimulation of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The results showed the potential change of the mitochondrial membrane occurred at 5 hours after UV irradiation treatment. Analysis of fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR demonstrated that both the ice-2 and ice-5 might be involved in UV induced apoptosis in Bm cells. Notably, after UV irradiating, expression pattern of ice-2 and ice-5 were remarkably different. The ice-2 gene was highly expressed at two time points, 0.5 and 5 hours after UV stimulating, while the expression level of ice-5 only peaked at 5 hours after UV stimulating. It indicated that apoptosis induced by UV irradiation was involved in the mitochondrial pathway and the two isoforms of Bm ice may act but play different role during the apoptosis of Bm cells.

UV 투과율 향상 필터 기술을 이용한 전력설비 방전 검출용 자외선 코로나 카메라 개발 (Development of UV Corona Camera for the Detecting of Discharge on Power Facility using UV Transmittance Improvement Filter)

  • UV inspection technology is being used for predictive maintenance of power facility together with IR-thermography and ultrasonic devices. In this paper, the UV corona camera design, fabrication, and perform a simple test to be take advantage of the diagnostic equipment. The UV corona camera developed a $6.4^{\circ}{\times}4.8^{\circ}$ of the field of view as a conventional camera to diagnose a wide range of slightly enlarged, and power equipment to measure the distance between the camera and the distance meter has been attached. The transmission between 250 to 280nm was 11% ($12.5%{\times}88%{\times}98%$) by combing the transmission on absorption film, window and other filter(UG 5, nickel sulphate and so on). In a distance of 5m with the UV corona camera it is possible to detect partial discharge with a PD level of 2.5pC and a RIV level of $3.6dB{\mu}V$.

솔잎 추출물을 이용한 염색직물의 기능성에 관한 연구[1] (A Study on the Functionality of the Fabrics Dyed with Pine Needles Extract (1))

  • In this study 1, the dyeability and sun protection characteristic of the fabrics dyed with pine needles extract was investigated. In the test of color difference, the surface color of all the dyed fabric of both cotton and silk came to light as greenish yellow. In the test of dyeing colorfastness, the colorfastness to sunlight of dyed cotton fabric was below 2nd grade and the one of dyed silk fabric was below 3rd grade. The colorfastness to laundry for the degree of discoloration showed a difference as to mordants, but the colorfastness to laundry for the degree of contamination was excellent as all the dyed fabrics were 4th-5th grade. The colorfastness to perspiration was excellent as the degree of discoloration was more than 3rd grade and the degree of contamination was more than 4th-5th grade. The colorfastness to rubbing showed the excellent result as all the dyed fabrics were 4th-5th grade. In the test of sun protection factor(SPF), the cotton and silk fabrics dyed with $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_{2}O$ mordant showed very high sun protection characteristic as the SPF was each 36.1 and 42.5. In the test of sun protection rate for UV-A and UV-B, the cotton and silk fabrics dyed with $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_{2}O$ mordant showed the very high sun protection rate of more than $90\%$.

자외선에 의해 자외선 차단 효율이 상승하는 선크림 제형 개발 (Development of a Sunscreen Formulation that Increases UV Blocking Ability by UV Light)

  • 자외선에 의해 자외선 차단 효율이 상승하는 선크림에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (OMC)는 가장 널리 쓰이는 자외선 차단제이고, OMC에 대한 광안정성 연구는 오랫동안 수행되어왔다. OMC는 자외선에 의해 trans구조가 cis구조로 변하거나, dimer를 비롯한 광반응물을 생성하여 자외선 차단효율이 떨어진다고 알려져 왔다. 하지만 본 연구에서는 OMC나 isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate(IMC)와 같이 메톡시신나메이트 구조를 공유하는 자외선 차단제들이 실제 사용조건과 유사한 조건에서 자외선에 노출 시키고 잘 설계된 실험 방법으로 in vitro SPF 수치를 측정하였을 때 오히려 자외선 차단 효율이 증가하는 것을 발견하였다. 이것은 자외선에 의해서 생성된 광반응물과 OMC간의 ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking을 통한 ${\pi}-{\pi}^*$ 전이 에너지 변화(UV activated transition) 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 이 발견을 선크림 개발에 적용하기 위해서는 함께 사용되는 에몰리언트의 극성 및 상용성을 적절히 고려해야 한다. 상용성이 좋은 극성 에몰리언트를 포함하면 자외선에 의해 OMC가 광반응물을 생성하지 않기 때문에 발견의 효과가 감소하는 것으로 보인다. 이러한 작용 기전(UV activated SPF boosting)을 바탕으로 상업용 수준의 선크림을 제조하여 평가해보았다. 그 결과 자외선(2 MED)에 노출되었을 때 in vitro SPF 수치는 50.69에서 72.33으로 42.69%로 증가하였고 in vivo SPF 평가에서는 53.7을 얻어 같은 조건의 대조군의 선크림(SPF 34.4 이하) 대비 56.10% 이상 높게 측정되었다. 따라서 OMC와 IMC가 특정 조건에서 UV sensor처럼 작용하여, 자외선에 노출 되었을 때 자외선 차단 효율을 높일 수 있는 선크림을 제조할 수 있었다.
