Anesthetized dogs were tilted from horizontal to the upright and head down position. Tilting to the upright position was followed by an increase in heart rate. In the head down position a decreased heart rate was obtained. The arterial blood pressure was decreased in the upright position and was decreased markedly in the head down position. The central venous pressure was decreased in the upright position and was markedly decreased down to the negative pressure in the head down position. The respiratory rate was slightly increased in the upright position comparing to that in the horizontal position. No remarkable changes were noted in the head down position. From the above results the following factors were discussed The decreased arterial blood pressure during the upright position was supposed to be the secondary effect from the diminished venous return that was suggested by the decreased central venous pressure. The decreased arterial blood pressure in the head down position was also supposed as the above reason as the diminished central venous pressure during the tilt. In addition the cardioinhibitory effects originated from the baroreceptors might have been operated during head down tilting. In the heart rate there was slight tachycardia in the upright position this was assumed as the abolished cardioinhibitory impulses from the baroreceptor in the upright position. On the contrary, despite of the decrease of arterial blood pressure in the head down position as well as in the upright, the bradycardia have been appeared. This was suggestive of cardioinhibitory impulses from the baroreceptors which was stretched during head down tilting. From the above findings there is a possibility of continous cardioinhibitory responses during head down tilting for this kind of the short period of 10 minutes which was chosed in this study.

In this paper, We proposed a novel hand-gesture recognition algorithm using concentric-circle expanding and tracing. The proposed algorithm determines region of interest of hand image through preprocessing the original image acquired by web-camera and extracts the feature of hand gesture such as the number of stretched fingers, finger tips and finger bases, angle between the fingers which can be used as intuitive method for of human computer interaction. The proposed algorithm also reduces computational complexity compared with raster scan method through referencing only pixels of concentric-circles. The experimental result shows that the 9 hand gestures can be recognized with an average accuracy of 90.7% and an average algorithm execution time is 78ms. The algorithm is confirmed as a feasible way to a useful input method for virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and perceptual interfaces of human computer interaction.
Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) with high degree of hydrolysis of above 98% was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO), and the shear viscosity was measured up to $C{\simeq}0.14\;g/mL$ in the semi-dilute solution regime. Next, as probe particle, polystyrene(PS) latex was introduced into this matrix system and its delayed diffusion due to polymer concentration was investigated by means of dynamic light scattering. When the solution viscosity of PVA/DMSO was plotted against the reduced concentration $C[{\eta}]$, which is scaled by the intrinsic viscosity, the molecular weight dependence was strongly appeared at C$[{\eta}]$ >2. Some heterogeneties in polymer solution were considered as its source. Contrary, the diffusion of probe particle in the matrix solution was observed as a single mode motion at whole concentration range but its ratio of its diffusion coefficient at solution to that at solvent, D/Do did not show any molecular weight dependence at all. However, the application limit of the stretched exponential function was disclosed at C$[{\eta}]$ >2.5.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is known to exert its effects on bone cells through the mediation of adenosine 3', 5'-monophosphate (cAMP). Orthodontic forces have also been shown to alter the cAMP content of paradental cells, particularly the alveolar bone osteoblasts. The objective of this experiment was to determine whether a combined orthodontic treatment-PTH administration regimen would have an additive effect on cAMP content in paradental cells in sites of periodontal ligament (PDL) tension. Seven groups of 4 one year old female cats each were treated for 1,3,6,12,24 h, 7 and 14 d by tipping one maxillary canine. PTH was administered twice daily, 30u/kg. Maxillary horizontal sections were stained immunohistochemically for cAMP and the degree of cellular staining intensity was determined microphotometrically as per cent light transmittance at 600nm. Alveolar bone osteoblasts, progenitor cells, PDL fibroblasts and cementoblasts in tenion sites were measured and the data were analyzed statistically by a mixed model analysis of variance. PTH administration increased the cAMP staining of nonorthodontically treated paradental cells in comparison to cells untreated by force or hormone. Cells in PDL tension sites of PTH-treated cats demonstrated significantly darker cAMP staining than cells in non-orthodontically-treated sites. Osteoblasts demonstrated the greatest response in terms of cAMP elevation, while in PDL fibroblasts orthodontic force did not increase cAMP levels above those measured in non-stretched hormonally-treated cells. These results demonstrate that PTH increases cAMP levels in paradental cells, particullarly in osteoblasts, and that the effects of PTH and orthodontic forces on paradental target cells may approach additivity.
In flows with deformation rates larger than the inverse Rouse time of the polymer chain, chains are stretched and their confining tubes become increasingly anisotropic. The pressures exerted by a polymer chain on the walls of an anisotropic confinement are anisotropic and limit chain stretch. In the Molecular Stress Function (MSF) model, chain stretch is balanced by an interchain pressure term, which is inverse proportional to the $3^{rd}$ power of the tube diameter and is characterized by a tube diameter relaxation time. We show that the tube diameter relaxation time is equal to 3 times the Rouse time in the limit of small chain stretch. At larger deformations, we argue that chain stretch is balanced by two restoring tensions with weights of 1/3 in the longitudinal direction of the tube (due to a linear spring force) and 2/3 in the lateral direction (due to the nonlinear interchain pressure), both of which are characterized by the Rouse time. This approach is shown to be in quantitative agreement with transient and steady-state elongational viscosity data of two monodisperse polystyrene melts without using any nonlinear parameter, i.e. solely based on the linear-viscoelastic characterization of the melts. The same approach is extended to model experimental data of four styrene-butadiene random copolymer melts in shear flow. Thus for monodisperse linear polymer melts, for the first time a constitutive equation is presented which allows quantitative modeling of nonlinear extension and shear rheology on the basis of linear-viscoelastic data alone.
The author has observed the effects of collagenase on the relapse phenomenon and the histochemical changes during the relapse period. 50 rats were used. : 3rats as a normal group, 15rats as control groups, and 32rats as experimental groups. Rat's teeth were moved for 10days with helical spring applied, followed by injection of "collagenase in Hank's sol." to the experimental groups and the "Hank's sol." to the control group in the interdental gingiva on the 10th day, and the spring was removed on the 11th day. After injection, the experimental animals were sacrificed on the 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th, 20th, and 24th day and prepared histochemically for the Hematoxylin-Eosin, Van-Gieson, and Methyl Green-pyronin staining. The results are as follows: 1. Group I (11th day): In the control group the supracrestal fibers were stretched and the metabolic rate was high. Experimental group showed that supracrestal fibers were resor, bed, disarrayed, and the metabolic rate was low. 2. Group II (13th day): In the control group, the supracrestal fibers began to change from the vertical direction to tooth-axis to the parallel. Experimental group showed that supracrestal fibers were completely resorbed. 3. Group IV (17th day): The control group showed almost normal structure. Form this group the metabolic rates were low. Experimental group showed the most destructive pattern. 4. Group VI (24th day): Experimental group showed almost normal structure. It follows that experimental groups were relapsed less than the control groups, and collagenase was effective in the prevention of relapse after rat's experimental tooth movement.
PURPOSE. This study was performed to evaluate the osteogenic potential of 3mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (3Y-TZP) and niobium oxide containing Y-TZPs with specific ratios, new (Y,Nb)-TZPs, namely YN4533 and YN4533/Al20 discs. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 3Y-TZP, YN4533 and YN4533/Al20 discs (15 mm diameter and 1 mm thickness) were prepared and their average surface roughness ($R_a$) and surface topography were analyzed using 3-D confocal laser microscope (CLSM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Mouse pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells were seeded onto all zirconia discs and evaluated with regard to cell attachment and morphology by (CLSM), cell proliferation by PicoGreen assay, and cell differentiation by Reverse-Transcription PCR and Quantitative Real-Time PCR, and alkaline phosphatase (Alp) staining. RESULTS. The cellular morphology of MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts was more stretched on a smooth surface than on a rough surface, regardless of the material. Cellular proliferation was higher on smooth surfaces, but there were no significant differences between 3Y-TZP, YN4533, and YN4533/Al20. Osteoblast differentiation patterns on YN4533 and YN4533/Al20 were similar to or slightly higher than seen in 3Y-TZP. Although there were no significant differences in bone marker gene expression (alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin), Alp staining indicated better osteoblast differentiation on YN4533 and YN4533/Al20 compared to 3Y-TZP. CONCLUSION. Based on these results, niobium oxide containing Y-TZPs have comparable osteogenic potential to 3Y-TZP and are expected to be suitable alternative ceramics dental implant materials to titanium for aesthetically important areas.
The objective of this study was to determine the duration of maintained calf muscle flexibility gained in young adults with calf muscle tightness, as measured by increases in ankle active and passive dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM) after three stretching interventions. Twenty subjects (5 men and 15 women) with calf muscle tightness received the following three stretching interventions in one leg (assigned at random): static stretching (SS), eccentric training on stable surface (ETS), and eccentric training on unstable surfaces (ETU). The subjects received all three interventions to the same leg, applied in a random order. Each intervention had a break of at least 24 h in-between, in order to minimize any carryover effect. Each intervention used two types of stretching: with the calf muscle stretched and both knees straight, and with the knee slightly bent in order to maximize the activation of the soleus muscle. All three interventions were performed for 200 seconds. We measured the duration of maintained calf muscle flexibility through active and passive ankle DFROM before intervention, immediately after intervention (time 0), and then 3, 6, 9, 15, and 30 min after intervention. We found a difference in the duration of maintained calf muscle flexibility between the three interventions. In the ETS and ETU interventions, a significant improvement in calf muscle flexibility, both ankle active and passive dorsiflexion ranges of motion (ADFROM and PDFROM), was maintained for 30 min. In the SS intervention, however, ADFROM before 9 min and PDFROM before 6 min were statistically different from the baseline. Our results suggest that ETS and ETU may be more effective than SS for maintaining calf muscle flexibility in young adults.
FBG sensor peaks could be split due to polarization by shear strain, when the fiber optic sensors embedded or attached to the structure. For the fiber optic sensor packages, sensor grating has to be protected from shear strains. Also, pretension has to be applied to the sensor because compressive strain must be measured. Without pretension of sensor, the sensor does not show any change of signal until it is stretched. In order to mesure compressive and tensile strains, two fixing point and prestressed sensor need. In the fixing point, just holding the optical fiber cause slip between core and cladding in the fiber. A Fixation method of prestressed FBG sensors fixed with partially stripped fibers was developed. The sensor package has the prestress controllable fixtures at the fixing points. Prestress to the sensor imposed by controlling the two fixed points with bolts and nuts make it easy to measure compressive strain as well as tensile strain. The fiber optic sensor packages applied to the actual structure and the structural monitoring system using the package can be applied to safety through surveillance.
We interviewed and surveyed parents of 3 to 6-year-old boys in order to determine designs for indoor apparel that appealed to toddlers. In addition, on the basis of the behavioral characteristics of such boys, improvements in the development of indoor apparels were suggested. Parents preferred indoor apparels because it could be worn as underwear when the kid is outdoors and as outerwear when indoors. These apparels were popular with toddlers. Therefore, indoor apparel that gives the impression of outerwear while performing the function of underwear was designed. Underwear fabric was used, but outerwear apparel design was partially adopted. In order to improve the activity, fabric that could be stretched in any direction was used for the sleeves and pant legs, while organic fabric with soft texture was used for the trunk part of the apparel. Dark-colored material was used for the chest and elbow parts of the clothes in order to prevent contamination in these parts. In particular, a bib was used to prevent contamination in the chest part. Given that toddlers engage in many activities, the fabric needed to be durable, so this led to thick materials being used for the knee part. As certain parents complained about the short length for tops, we increased the length of the tops by 5cm. In the survey items that investigated overall wearability, ease, and suitability for toddlers' activities, the test apparel obtained a higher score than existing apparel did. This indicates that the overall suitability of the newly designed apparel was improved.
