STN International is operated in North America by CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society;by FIZ Karlsruhe in Eruope ; and by JICST in Japan. All three are not-for-profit scientific organizations. This paper describes Messenger software that is designed for fast and efficient information retrieval, the advanced front-end STN Express software that saves time and effort, and databases in STN.

Scene Transition Nets(STN) is a very useful modeling method for discrete-continuous hybrid systems. However, it is difficult to write STN in standard object-oriented programming languages because STN programming requires much skill of object-oriented programming and high knowledge of STN of designers. To overcome this problem, the authors have developed a useful GUI simulator software for modeling and simulations of STN. The experimental results of a transport system including an AGV showed the availability of our software.

The purpose of this study is to analyze fundamental six functions of DIALOG, STN, ORBIT and CDP and then investigate the similarities of the four systems in terms of the functions, and also to compare the commands of these systems with ISO 8777 which is an international standard of command language for the interactive text searching. It was found that there are few differences between the four systems and ISO 8777 in functional aspects, but few similarities in command expression aspects. In addition, it was proven that these four systems are more effective than ISO 8777 in some commands.

The checklist method is one of the oldest and traditional approaches to the evaluation of library collection. A list of items is checked against the library holdings as the percentage of items held is calculated. This paper reports an evaluation of the KISTI's SciTech journal collection with checklist method. The checklist of SciTech Collection has been made by major STM Databases in STN International.

This study was to evaluate the impact of river runoff and salt intrusion by tide on nutrient balance of estuary during a complete tidal cycle. 24 hours time series survey was carried out during a spring tide July 2001 on a tidal estuary in the Keum river. Three stations(A,B,C) were set along a transect line of about 10km, which linked the lower part of estuary dyke to the subtidal zone. Surface water was sampled simultaneously at each station every hours f3r the determination of nutrients. Water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen were measured in situ. Riverine input of silicate and nitrate during ebb tide significantly increased the concentration of all stations. Conversely, during high tide, nutrient concentration were lowered by the mixing of fresh water with sea water Ammonium nitrogen concentration were higher at intertidal zone(Stn.B) due to sewage inflow to Kyeongpo stream and ammonium release under anaerobic conditions. Also, these results was discussed as a biological component that influences the processes of nutrient regeneration within the estuary. Best correlations were found at lower part of estuary dyke(Stn.A) for salinity against DIN(Y=0.121 Sal.+4.97, r2=0.956) and silicate(Y=0.040 Sal.+2.62, r2=0.785). But no significant correlation was found between salinity and ammonium. Unbalanced elemental ratio(N/P, Si/N and Si/P) depended significantly on the import of nutrients (silicate & nitrate nitrogen) from river and stream. The effect of the tidal cycle and river runoff is important that in determining the extend of the variations in nutrient concentrations at all station.
