Optimal process and system to produce the laser welded tube for one body formed bumper beam are studied. The calculated size of tube is a thickness of 1.4mm, diameter of 105.4mm and length of 2000mm. The tube is shaped from a cold rolled high strength steel sheet(tensile strength: 60kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ grade). Two roll bending method is the optimal tube shaping process compared to UO-bending, bending on press brake, multi-step continuous roll forming and 3 roll bending methods. Weld quality monitoring and seam tracking along the butt-joint lengthwise to the tube axis are also studied. The longitudinal butt-joint is welded by the $CO_2$ laser welding system equipped with a seam tracker and plasma sensor. The constructed $CO_2$laser tube welding system can be used for the precision seam tracking and the real-time monitoring of weld quality. Finally, the obtained laser welded tube can be used for one-body formed automobile bumper beam.
SiC nanowires were synthesized by carbothermal reduction using metal catalysts. Synthesized nanowires had mean diameters of 30∼50 nm and several $\mu\textrm{m}$ length. The kind of catalysts affects form of SiC nanowire because of difference of growth mechanisms. These differences were made by catalyst's physical property and relative activities to the source gas. Ni acted a conventional catalyst of VLS growth mechanism. But, Case of Fe, SiC nanowire was grown by stable VLS growth mechanism without relation of growth conditions. SiC nanowire was grown by two step growth model using Cr catalyst. Conversion ratios to the SiC nanowire were increased with growth conditions. Case of Cr, conversion ratio was about 45% that was higher than other catalyst used. This high conversion ratio was obtained by the addition VS growth to radial direction on the as-grown nanowires.
We fabricated an anode-type ion source driven by a charge repulsion mechanism and investigated its beam shape controlled by a Whenelt mask integrated at the front face of the source. The ion beam shape was observed to vary by changing the geometry of the Whenelt mask. As the angle of inclination of the Whenelt mask was varied from $40^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$, the etched area at a thin film was reduced from 20 mm to 7.5 mm at the working distance of 286 mm, and the light transmittance through the etched surface was increased from 78% to 80%, respectively. In addition, for the step height difference, ${\Delta}$ between the inner mask and the outer mask of ${\Delta}=0$, -1 mm, and +1 mm, we observed the ion beam shape was formed to be collimated, diverged, and focused, respectively. The focal length of the focused beam was 269 mm. We approved experimentally a simple way of controlling the electric field of the ion beam by changing the geometry of the Whenelt mask such that the initial direction of the ion beam in the plasma region was manipulated effectively.
This paper presents a theoretical study of a model predictive control (MPC) strategy employed in semi-active control system with magnetorheological (MR) dampers to reduce the responses of seismically excited structures. The MPC scheme is based on a prediction model of the system response to obtain the control actions by minimizing an objective function, which can compensate for the effect of time delay that occurred in real application. As an example, a 5-story building frame equipped with two 20 kN MR dampers is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed MPC scheme for addressing time delay and reducing the structural responses under different earthquakes, in which the predictive length l = 5 and the delayed time step d = 10, 20, 40, 60, 100 are considered. Comparison with passive-off, passive-on, and linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control strategy indicates that MPC scheme exhibits good control performance similar to the LQG control strategy, both have better control effectiveness than two passive control methods for most cases, and the MPC scheme used in semi-active control system show more effectiveness and robustness for addressing time delay and protecting structures during earthquakes.

A numerical technique for fluid-structure interaction, which is based on the finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), was developed for application to an industrial chimney equipped with a pendulum tuned mass damper (TMD). In order to solve the structural problem, a one-dimensional beam model (Navier-Bernoulli) was considered and, for the dynamical problem, the standard second-order Newmark method was used. Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow are solved in several horizontal planes to determine the pressure in the boundary of the corresponding cross-section of the chimney. Forces per unit length were obtained by integrating the pressure and are introduced in the structure using standard FEM interpolation techniques. For the fluid problem, a fractional step scheme based on a second order pressure splitting has been used. In each fluid plane, the displacements have been taken into account considering an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian approach. The stabilization of convection and diffusion terms is achieved by means of quasi-static orthogonal subscales. For each period of time, the fluid problem was solved and the geometry of the mesh of each fluid plane is updated according to the structure displacements. Using this technique, along-wind and across-wind effects have been properly explained. The method was applied to an industrial chimney in three scenarios (with or without TMD and for different damping values) and for two wind speeds, showing different responses.
Si-based electromagnetic noise suppressors on coplanar waveguide transmission lines incorporated with a $SiO_2$ dielectric layer and a nanogranular Co-Fe-Al-O magnetic thin film are reported. Unlike glass-based devices, large signal attenuation is observed even in the bare structure without coating the magnetic thin film. Much larger signal attenuation is achieved in fully integrated devices. The transmission scattering parameter ($S_{21}$) is as small as -90 dB at 20 GHz at the following device dimensions; the thicknesses of the $SiO_2$ and Co-Fe-Al-O thin films are 0.1 $\mu$m and 1 $\mu$m, respectively, the length of the transmission line is 15 mm, and the width of the magnetic thin film is 2000 $\mu$m. In all cases, the reflection scattering parameter ($S_{11}$) is below -10 dB over the whole frequency band. Additional distributed capacitance formed by the Cu transmission line/$SiO_2$/Si substrate is responsible for these characteristics. It is considered that the present noise suppressors based on the Si substrate are a first important step to the realization of MMIC noise suppressors.

This paper is to suggest the security requirements for identification and authentication in analysis step. Firstly, individual ID should be uniquely identified. The second element is to apply the length limitations, combination and periodic changes of passwords. The third should require the more reinforced authentication methods besides ID and passwords and satisfy the defined security elements on authentication process.
Accurate identification of microbes facilitates the prediction, prevention, and treatment of human diseases. To increase the accuracy of microbiome data analysis, a long region of the 16S rRNA is commonly sequenced via paired-end sequencing. In paired-end sequencing, a sufficient length of overlapping region is required for effective joining of the reads, and high-quality sequencing reads are needed at the overlapping region. Trimming sequences at the reads distal to a point where sequencing quality drops below a specific threshold enhance the joining process. In this study, we examined the effect of trimming conditions on the number of reads that remained after quality control and chimera removal in the Illumina paired-end reads of the V3-V4 hypervariable region. We also examined the alpha diversity and taxa assigned by each trimming condition. Optimum quality trimming increased the number of good reads and assigned more number of operational taxonomy units. The pre-analysis trimming step has a great influence on further microbiome analysis, and optimized trimming conditions should be applied for Divisive Amplicon Denoising Algorithm 2 analysis in QIIME2 platform.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate postural control strategies on smart phone use during gait in over 50-year-old adults. Method: 8 elderly subjects (age: $55.5{\pm}3.29yrs$, height: $159.75{\pm}4.20cm$, weight: $62.87{\pm}8.44kg$) and 10 young subjects (age: $23.8{\pm}3.19yrs$, height: $158.8{\pm}5.97cm$, weight: $53.6{\pm}5.6kg$) participated in the study. They walked at a comfortable pace in a gaitway of ~8 m while: 1) reading text on a smart phone, 2) typing text on a smart phone, or 3) walking without the use of a phone. Gait parameters and kinematic data were evaluated using a three-dimensional movement analysis system. Results: The participants read or wrote text messages they walked with: slower speed; lesser stride length and step width; greater flexion range of motion of the head; more flexion of the thorax in comparison with normal walking. Conclusion: Texting or reading message on a smart phone while walking may pose an additional risk to pedestrians' safety.
Utilization of fiber beam-column element has gained considerable attention in recent years due mainly to its ability to model distributed plasticity over the length of the element through a number of integration points. However, the relatively high sensitivity of the method to modeling parameters as well as material behavior models can pose a significant challenge. Residual drift is one of the seismic demands which is highly sensitive to modeling parameters and material behavior models. Permanent deformations play a prominent role in the post-earthquake evaluation of serviceability of bridges affected by a near-fault ground shaking. In this research, the influence of distributed plasticity modeling parameters using both force-based and displacement-based fiber elements in the prediction of internal forces obtained from the nonlinear static analysis is studied. Having chosen suitable type and size of elements and number of integration points, the authors take the next step by investigating the influence of material behavioral model employed for the prediction of permanent deformations in the nonlinear dynamic analysis. The result shows that the choice of element type and size, number of integration points, modification of cyclic concrete behavior model and reloading strain of concrete significantly influence the fidelity of fiber element method for the prediction of permanent deformations.
