In this study, the effects of two different casting methods (gravity casting and, diecasting) and various solid-solution conditions on the mechanical properties of ASC (Al-10.5wt%Si-1.75wt%Cu) and ALDC12 (Al-10.3wt%Si-1.72wt%Cu-0.76wt%Fe-0.28wt% Mn-0.32wt%Mg-0.9wt%Zn) alloys were investigated. A thermodynamic solidification analysis program (PANDAT) was used to predict the liquidus, solidus, and phases of the used alloys. In the results of an XRD analysis, ${\beta}$-AlFeSi peaks were observed only in the ALDC12 alloy regardless of the casting method or SST (solid-solution treatment) conditions. However, according to the results of a FE-SEM observation, both ${\theta}(Al_2Cu)$ and ${\beta}$-AlFeSi were found to exist besides ${\alpha}$-Al and eutectic Si in the gravity-casted ASC alloy at $500^{\circ}C$ after a SST of 120min. The ${\alpha}$-AlFeSi and ${\beta}$-AlFeSi phases including the eutectic phases were also found to exist in the ALDC12 alloy. The results of a microstructural observation and analyses by XRD, FE-SEM and EDS were in good agreement with the PANDAT results. The gravity-casted ALDC12 and ASC specimens showed the highest Y.S. and UTS values after aging for three hours at $180^{\circ}C$ after a SST at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30min. At longer solid-solution treatment times at $500^{\circ}C$ in the gravity-casted ALDC12 and ASC specimens, the elongations of the ASC alloys increased, whereas they decreased slightly in the ALDC12 alloys.
In this study, the variation of the flow field in Hydro-reactive engine combustor was numerically studied through 2-dimensional axisymmetric model with aluminum and heated water vapor. For calculating all velocity fields, compressible Navier-Stokes equation was used with Pre-conditioning. AUSM+up(p) method was used to exactly calculate mass flow in the control volume. As using SST model that is a turbulent model, the result had high accuracy for free stream and the flow near the wall. The effects of the temperature, variation of the flow field and distribution of chemical products on inject angle of heated water vapor were studied.
In this paper, the effect of modification of geometric variables on the performance of a centrifugal compressor blade has been studied numerically. The compressor contains six main blades and six splitter blades. Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with shear stress turbulence (SST) model are discretized by finite volume approximations and solved on hexahedral grids for flow analysis. The design variables from blade lean angle at tip and middle of the blade have been modified. The isentropic blade efficiency and pressure have been predicted with the variation of the variables. Frozen rotor simulation is performed and adiabatic wall condition has been used. One of the six blades of compressor has been used for simulation to reduce the computational load. Optimum number of meshes has been selected by grid-dependency test, and this is used for all the simulations with changing geometric variables. The detailed flow analysis results have been reported as well as the effects of the variables.

Supersonic jet technology using high pressures has been popularly utilized in diverse industrial and engineering areas related to working fluids. In this study, to consider the effects of a shock wave caused by supersonic jet flow from a high pressure pipe, the SST turbulent flow model provided in the ANSYS FLUENT v.16 was applied and the flow characteristics of the pressure ratio and Mach number were analyzed in accordance with the working fluids (air, oxygen, and hydrogen). Before carrying out CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, it was presumed that the inlet gas temperature was 300 K and pressure ratio was 5 : 1 as the boundary conditions. The density function was derived from the ideal gas law and the viscosity function was derived from Sutherland viscosity law. The pressure ratio along the ejection distance decreased more in the lower density working fluids. In the case of the higher density working fluids, however, the Mach number was lower. This shows that the density of the working fluids has a considerable effect on the shock wave. Therefore, the reliability of the analysis results were improved by experiments and CFD analysis showed that supersonic jet flow affects the shock wave by changing shape and diameter of the jet, pressure ratio, etc. according to working fluids.
Objectives: The annual catch of the common squid Todarodes pacificus in Korean coastal waters has gradually increased since the late 1980s. We investigated the long-term effects of climate variability on the variation in catches of the squid in the offshore fisheries of Korea. Methods: Moving average method, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used to determine the relationship between the environmental factors and fluctuation in the catch of the squid during the past 30 years (1981- 2010). A ten-year moving average was calculated and used for each variable. Results: Squid catches in Korean coastal waters increased over time, and there were significant variations within every ten years (p < 0.001). Air temperature, atmospheric pressure, and wind grade among the meteorological factors, alongside sea surface temperature (SST) and concentrations of phosphate phosphorous, and nitrite/nitrate nitrogen in the sea water increased and were positively related with the catch size of squid (p < 0.001). However, salinity decreased and was negatively related with the catch size (p < 0.001). The increase in air temperature and SST was almost parallel, although there was a time lag between the two factors. Conclusion: These results suggest that there is a causal association between climate change and squid populations. Climate change, especially ocean warming, appears to have been largely favorable for squid range expansion into Korean seas. Although the expansion may be helpful for the human food supply, the safety of the squid caught should be monitored since the concentrations of phosphorous and nitrogen in the sea water increased, which indicates that Korean seas have grown gradually more polluted.

Pneumatic levitation is based upon Bernoulli's principle. However, this method is known to require a large gas flow rate that can lead to an increase in the cost of products. In this case, the gas flow rate should be increased, and the compressible effects of the gas may be of practical importance. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics method has been used to obtain insights into Bernoulli levitation flows. Three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations in combination with the SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. The gas flow rate, workpiece diameter, and clearance gap between the workpiece and the circular cylinder were varied to investigate the flow characteristics inside. It is known that there is an optimal clearance gap for the lifting force and that increasing the supply gas flow rate results in a larger lifting force.
Turbulent flow analysis is conducted around the multi-stage launch vehicle including base region and detachment motion of strap-on boosters due to resultant aerodynamic forces and gravity is simulated. Aerodynamic solution procedure is coupled with rigid body dynamics for the prediction of separation behavior. An overset mesh technique is adopted to achieve maximum efficiency in simulating relative motion of bodies and various turbulence models are implemented on the flow solver to predict the aerodynamic forces accurately. At first, some preliminary studies are conducted to show the importance of base flow for the exact prediction of detachment motion and to find the most suitable turbulence model for the simulation of launch vehicle configurations. And then, developed solver is applied to the simulation of KSR-III, a three-stage sounding rocket researched in Korea. From the analyses, after-body flow field strongly affects the separation motions of strap-on boosters. Negative pitching moment at initial stage is gradually recovered and a strap-on finally results in a safe separation, while fore-body analysis shows collision phenomena between core rocket and booster. And a slight variation of motion is observed from the comparison between inviscid and turbulent analyses. Change of separation trajectory based on viscous effects is just a few percent and therefore, inviscid analysis is sufficient for the simulation of separation motion if the study is focused only on the movement of strap-ons.

Overexpanded flow of an axisymmetric thruster nozzle is numerically simulated to investigate effects of nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) on the shock structure and thrust performance. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-${\omega}$ SST turbulence model are solved utilizing FLUENT solver. As the NPR is raised, thrust performance monotonically increases with the shock structure and flow-separation point being pushed toward the nozzle exit. It is also discussed that the flow structure at nozzle-exit plane which is immediately affected by a position of nozzle-interior shocks and expansion waves, has strong influence upon the thrust performance of thruster nozzle.
A space radiation analysis has been used to evaluate an ability of electronic equipment boxes or spacecrafts to endure various radiation effects, so it helps design thicknesses of structure and allocate components to meet the radiation requirements. A comparison study of space radiation dose analysis programs SPENVIS Sectoring Tool (SST) and SIGMA II is conducted through some structure cases, simple sphere shell, box and representative satellite configurations. The results and a discussion of comparison will be given. A general comparison will be shown for understanding those programs. The both programs use the same strategy, solid angle sectoring with ray-tracing method to produce an approximate dose at points in representative simple and complex models of spacecraft structures. Also the particle environment data corresponding to mission specification and radiation transport data are used as input data. But there are distinctions between them. The specification of geometry model and its input scheme, the assignment of dose point and the numbers, the prerequisite programs and ways of representing results will be discussed. SST is a web-based interactive program for sectoring analysis of complex geometries. It may be useful for a preliminary dose assessment with user-friendly interfaces and a package approach. SIGMA II is able to obtain from RSICC (Radiation Safety Information Computational Center) as a FOR-TRAN 77 source code. It may be suitable for either parametric preliminary design or detailed final design, e.g. a manned flight or radiation-sensitive component configuration design. It needs some debugs, recompiling and a tedious work to make geometrical quadric surfaces for actual spacecraft configuration, and has poor documentation. It is recommend to vist RSICC homepage and GEANT4/SSAT homepage.
The objective of this study is to investigate the turbulence models with compressibility correction for large separation-flow in a supersonic convergent-divergent rectangular nozzle. As turbulence models, Yang and Shih's Low-Re $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, Mener's $k-{\omega}$ SST model and Wilcox's $k-{\omega}$model were evaluated. In order to get a significant compressible effects, Sarkar and Wilcox compressibility correction models were applied to the turbulence models respectively. Also, the simulation results were compared with experimental data. The turbulence model with compressibility correction model improves both of shock position and pressure recovery, but deteriorates the length of Mach disk.
