  • This study aimed to confirm the importance ratio of climate and management variables on production of orchardgrass in Korea (1982-2014). For the climate, the mean temperature in January (MTJ, ℃), lowest temperature in January (LTJ, ℃), growing days 0 to 5 (GD 1, day), growing days 5 to 25 (GD 2, day), Summer depression days (SSD, day), rainfall days (RD, day), accumulated rainfall (AR, mm), and sunshine duration (SD, hr) were considered. For the management, the establishment period (EP, 0-6 years) and number of cutting (NC, 2nd-5th) were measured. The importance ratio on production of orchardgrass was estimated using the neural network model with the perceptron method. It was performed by SPSS 26.0 (IBM Corp., Chicago). As a result, EP was the most important variable (100%), followed by RD (82.0%), AR (79.1%), NC (69.2%), LTJ (66.2%), GD 2 (63.3%), GD 1 (61.6%), SD (58.1%), SSD (50.8%) and MTJ (41.8%). It implies that EP, RD, AR, and NC were more important than others. Since the annual rainfall in Korea is exceed the required amount for the growth and development of orchardgrass, the damage caused by heavy rainfall exceeding the appropriate level could be reduced through drainage management. It means that, when cultivating orchardgrass, factors that can be controlled were relatively important. Although it is difficult to interpret the specific effect of climates on production due to neural networking modeling, in the future, this study is expected to be useful in production prediction and damage estimation by climate change by selecting major factors.

  • To provide a hand gesture interface through deep learning in mobile environments, research on the light-weighting of networks is essential for high recognition rates while at the same time preventing degradation of execution speed. This paper proposes a method of real-time recognition of written characters in the air using a finger on mobile devices through the light-weighting of deep-learning model. Based on the SSD (Single Shot Detector), which is an object detection model that utilizes MobileNet as a feature extractor, it detects index finger and generates a result text image by following fingertip path. Then, the image is sent to the server to recognize the characters based on the learned OCR model. To verify our method, 12 users tested 1,000 words using a GALAXY S10+ and recognized their finger with an average accuracy of 88.6%, indicating that recognized text was printed within 124 ms and could be used in real-time. Results of this research can be used to send simple text messages, memos, and air signatures using a finger in mobile environments.

  • Since the current crime prevention systems have a standard mechanism that victims request for help by themselves or ask for help from a third party nearby, it is difficult to obtain appropriate help in situations where a prompt response is not possible. In this study, we proposed and developed an automatic rescue request model and system using Deep Learning and OpenCV. This study is based on the prerequisite that immediate and precise threat detection is essential to ensure the user's safety. We validated and verified that the system identified by more than 99% of the object's accuracy to ensure the user's safety, and it took only three seconds to complete all necessary algorithms. We plan to collect various types of threats and a large amount of data to reinforce the system's capabilities so that the system can recognize and deal with all dangerous situations, including various threats and unpredictable cases.

  • This study proposes a system for take-off in a forest or similar complex environment using an object detector. In the simulator, a raspberry pi is mounted on a quadcopter with a length of 550mm between motors on a diagonal line, and the experiment is conducted based on edge computing. As for the images to be used for learning, about 150 images of 640⁎480 size were obtained by selecting three points inside Kunsan University, and then converting them to black and white, and pre-processing the binarization by placing a boundary value of 127. After that, we trained the SSD_Inception model. In the simulation, as a result of the experiment of taking off the drone through the model trained with the verification image as an input, a trajectory similar to the takeoff was drawn using the label.

  • As various services using AI technology are being developed, much attention is being paid to AI service production. Recently, AI technology is acknowledged as one of ICT services, a lot of research is being conducted for general-purpose AI service production. In this paper, I describe the research results in terms of systems for AI service production, focusing on the distribution and production of machine learning models, which are the final steps of general machine learning development procedures. Three different Ubuntu systems were built, and experiments were conducted on the system, using data from 2017 validation COCO dataset in combination of different AI models (RFCN, SSD-Mobilenet) and different communication methods (gRPC, REST) to request and perform AI services through Tensorflow serving. Through various experiments, it was found that the type of AI model has a greater influence on AI service inference time than AI machine communication method, and in the case of object detection AI service, the number and complexity of objects in the image are more affected than the file size of the image to be detected. In addition, it was confirmed that if the AI service is performed remotely rather than locally, even if it is a machine with good performance, it takes more time to infer the AI service than if it is performed locally. Through the results of this study, it is expected that system design suitable for service goals, AI model development, and efficient AI service production will be possible.

  • A mathematical model is presented for the calculation of the depth absorbed dose in water Phantom irradiated by high energy Photon beam (10MV X-ray), based on transport theory. The parameters of this model are obtained from the experimental values which were simulated by non-linear regression process method. The calculated absorbed dose distribution is extended to 3-D by using trial function from beam profile field sizes, SSD and depth in water phantom irradiated by high energy Photon beam. The calculated values using this model are in good agreement with the measured values.

  • High-quality sea-ice surface models generated from aerial images can be used effectively as field data for developing satellite-based remote sensing methods but also as analysis data for understanding geometric variations of Arctic sea-ice. However, the lack of texture information on sea-ice surfaces can reduce the accuracy of image matching. In this paper, we analyze the performance of matching cost functions for homogeneous sea-ice surfaces as a part of high-quality sea-ice surface model generation. The matching cost functions include sum of squared differences (SSD), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and zero-mean normalized cross-correlation (ZNCC) in image domain and phase correlation (PC), orientation correlation (OC), and gradient correlation (GC) in frequency domain. In order to analyze the matching performance for texture changes clearly and objectively, a new evaluation methodology based on the principle of object-space matching technique was introduced. Experimental results showed that it is possible to secure reliability and accuracy of image matching only when optimal search windows are variably applied to each matching point in textureless regions such as sea-ice surfaces. Among the matching cost functions, NCC and ZNCC showed the best performance for texture changes.
