  • Since rotor position information is necessary to drive the SRM, absolute-encoder, resolver and incremental encoder is used to detect a rotor position. But, it is not desirable to use a high price encoder and microprocessor under the condition of the simple driving system when precision control is not demanded. In this paper, only using the reflective type two photo-sensors replaces the conventional opto-interrupter and slotted-disk, which not only remove a slotted-disk section but drive three-phase 6/4 pole SRM bidirectionally, Therefore, control circuit can compose common analog device with low price.

  • This paper introduces a new rotor position estimation algorithm for the SRM, based on the magnetizing curves only at aligned and unaligned rotor positions. Through basic test method, the complete SRM magenetizing characterization is first constructed, and then used to estimate the rotor position. And also, the optimized phase is selected by phase selector. To demonstrate the promise of this approach. the proposed rotor position estimation algorithm is simulated for variable speed range.

  • SRM drive system is suitable for high performance drive over a wide speed range because of its outstanding instantaneous torque characteristics, controllability and simple drive structure. The realization of high efficiency SRM system is archived by design of optimal magnetic structure, and by development of switching drive circuit. So, this study describes the design standard of the winding number of stator pole for optimal magnetic structure.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive system provides a good adjustable speed and torque characteristics. However, because of the torque production mechanism, it also has some disadvantage such as higher torque ripple and fluctuation in speed. To reduce torque ripple and to control speed precisely, digital signal processor(DSP) is adopted. The DSP TMS320F241 was used to be realized this drive system. Test results show that the suggested control system has the ability of dynamic and precise speed control.

  • In a switched reluctance motor drive, it is important to synchronize the stator phase excitation with the rotor position, because the position of rotor is an essential information. In the high-speed region, switching angles are fluctuated back and forth out of\ the preset value, which is caused by the sampling period of the microprocessor. In this paper, a low cost analog encoder suitable for practical applications is proposed. The validity of the proposed analog encoder with a proper logic controller is verified from the experiments.

  • This paper presents a position sensorless control system of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) using Neural Network. The basic algorithm of this scheme is based on the flux linkage characteristic according to the phase currents and rotor position. A sufficient experimental data was used for neural network training. The proposed position sensorless control system was realized using TMS320F240 DSP. The experimental result shows some good results, and verifies the possibility of this algorithm.

  • This paper presents a balanced soft-chopping circuit and a modified PI controller for a high speed 4/2 Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) with a 16 pulse per revolution encoder. The proposed balanced soft-chopping circuit can supply double the switching frequency in the fixed switching frequency of power devices to reduce current ripple. The modified PI controller uses maximum voltage, back-emf voltage and PI control modes to overcome the over-shoot current due to the time delay effect of current sensing. The maximum voltage mode can supply a fast excitation current with consideration of the hardware time delay. Then the back-emf voltage mode can suppress the current over-shoot with consideration of the feedback signal delay. Finally, the PI control mode can adjust the phase current to a desired value with a fast switching frequency due to the proposed balanced soft-chopping technology.

  • In this paper, a detection technique of initial rotor position at a standstill in Toroidal Switched Reluctance Motor(TSRM) with built-in interior central pole search coil is proposed. In case search coils are used as a position sensor, it has many advantages like low cost, decrease in the volume, high robust characteristics and wide applications. However, the initial rotor position detection is very difficult because the search coil's EMF is not exist at a standstill. In this paper, a new detection method of initial rotor position is suggested using interior central pole search coil. The simulation and experiment for the proposed method and their results support the validity of the proposed scheme by verifying the operation of a 6/4 TSRM using search coils.

  • This paper describes a novel sensorless excitation position detecting method of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) drive. A suitable excitation pattern of each phases is determined by comparison of detecting current without an inductance estimation. The principle of the rotor position estimation is based on the detection of phase current according to rotor position. This sensorless method is very simple and gives efficient control of drive system. The suggested method is verified by experiments.

  • A pulse with modulation(PWM) that keeps a constant angle of dwell and adjust duty ratio is a good method to control a speed of SRM. And a method of one pulse control is proper a operation on range of high speed in SRM for a good energy efficiency. Because PWM method is more safety than one pulse method, conversion of those is best choice according the speed range. So, some algorithm is need for smooth conversion of the mode of control. This paper presents a factor of conversion that proper the conversion of control mode between PWM and one pulse method This factor is from estimation of torque and proper at the variable range of conversion and show the better conversion characteristic than constant factor of conversion.
