  • This paper is to research about design and drive system of a switched reluctance motor for a pallet truck application. SRM is suitable for a pulse type source and is researched for home and industrial applications owing to the advance of power electronics technology. An SRM for a pallet truck drive is developed and tested. The drive system has to operate with low voltage and high current. The small size, robustness and high efficiency make it possible to replace with DC motor which is used in a pallet truck conventionally. Test results show that pallet truck with SRM has better drive characteristics than that of the DC motor performance.

  • In this paper PU control scheme is presented. The proposed scheme has following features. The one is oft-starting method which is used for preventing to flow large current in motor phase winding when motor starts. The ther is the selection of the level of the over current. The first feature is implemented by increasing the PWM duty lowly, the second feature is implemented by limiting the magnitude of the phase current level by which the over heat f motor by copper losses and magnetic saturation decreases. By the analysis using FEM considering load condition, the peed of mode transition from PW to single pulse control is selected and confirmed by simulation that there is no ver current occurs during the mode transition. For the verification of proposed scheme, the simulation using MATLAB Simulink with considering non-linearity of inductance profile from FEM analysis is performed and the experiment with SRM drive system which has the DSP controller and single Phase SRM are peformed.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the automatic control of the turn-off angle used to excite the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) employed in electric vehicles (EV). The controller selects the turn-off angle that supports and improves the performance of the motor drive system. This control scheme consisting of classical current control and speed control depends on a lookup table to take the best result of the motor. The turn-on angle of the main switches of the inverter is fixed at $0^{\circ}C$ and the turn-off angle is variable depending on the reference speed. The motor, inverter and control system are modeled in Simulink to demonstrate the operation of the system.

  • This paper suggests a novel single-stage drive for a switched reluctance motor (SRM) to achieve sinusoidal, near unity power factor input currents. The proposed drive is very simple without additional active switch. As a single-stage approach, which combines a DC link capacitor used as dc source and a drive used for driving the motor into one power stage, a simple structure and low cost drive in implemented. A prototype drive for an 8/6 pole SRM equipping a suitable encoder is designed to evaluate the proposed topology. Also subscription control algorithm is presented. The characteristics and validity of the proposed circuit will be discussed in depth through the experimental results.

  • Advantages of switched reluctance motor(SRM) include a simple structure, the ability of operation in hash environments and under partial hardware failures, and a wide speed range. However design of SRM for industrial applications is very difficult because motor's inherent none-linearity and sensitivity of design parameter. In this paper, an optimal method for determining design parameters of a switched reluctance motor is researched. The dominant design parameters are stator and rotor pole arc and switching on and off angle. The parameters affecting performance are examined and selected using evolutionary computations and commercial CAD Program. The proposed design process is very fast. reliable and easy to access. The simulated design method proposed is compared with conventional procedure.

  • The switched reluctance motor (SRM) has a simple motor construction with no rotor windings. It also has simple concentrated windings on the stator windings. Thus it is expected to be a lower cost machine to manufacture than other motors. This paper has computed an optimal parameters asking for SRM drives using by PC-SRD that was programmed by T. J. E. Miller/M. Mcgilp. According to advanced angle and dwell angle, the output, efficiency, currents and torque were computed. The experiments with 8/6 SRM have tested.

  • In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed. Different from conventional structures, the proposed rotor consists of a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure short flux paths are taken and no flux reverse exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. Compared with conventional 12/8 SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to high efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, finite element method (FEM) is employed to get static and dynamic characteristics. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor is tested for characteristics comparisons.

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of novel 2-phase 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) with short flux path for an air-blower application. The desired air-blower is unidirectional application, and requires a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone. In order to get a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone during phase commutation, asymmetric inductance characteristic with non-uniform air-gap is considered. The proposed motor could be started at any rotor position with high efficiency drive. The proposed 2-phase 4/3 SRM is verified by finite element method analysis.

  • Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) offers the advantages of simple and robust motor construction, high speeds and high efficiencies over a wide operating range of torque and speed, excellent controllability. However, SRM has the disadvantages of high current harmonics, and low power factor because of a capacitor filter is inserted in the power converter and inductance of SRM is high, it has pulse waveform of current. This paper deals with an energy efficient converter fed SRM system with the reduced harmonics and improved power factor and with higher efficiency. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified via experiment. We are implemented the proposed control system using 80C196KC micro-controller.

  • This paper presents a design of a 2-phase segmental stator type 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for air-blower application. The air-blower requires only one direction rotation, high rotor speed without torque dead-zone. In order to satisfy the requirements of the load, the rotor of the 4/3 proposed SRM is designed with wider rotor pole arc and non-uniform air-gap is applied on the rotor shape. With a special rotor structure, the motor generates a wider positive torque region and has no torque dead-zone. The stator of the proposed SRM is constructed with two segmental C-cores, and there are no magnetic connections between 2 C-cores. The flux follows in a short closed loop in each C-core and has no reversal flux in the stator. The static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed by the finite element method (FEA) and Matlab-Simulink, respectively. In order to verify the design, a prototype of the proposed motor has manufactured for laboratory test. The performance of the proposed motor is verified by the simulation and experimental results.
