  • Two spider species of the genus Asiacoelotes collected from various areas of South Korea are reviewed with spination on each leg, detailed illustrations including trichobothrium patterns and SEM photographs of male palpal organs and female epigynum. These two species, A. songminjae (Paik &Yaginuma, 1969) and A. insidiosus (L. Koch, 1878), have been confused in Korea and Japan because they were previously incompletely described. A. songminjae is redescribed from the neotype and is here synonymized with A. tropidosatus (Wang & Zhu, 1991). A. insidiosus is recorded for the first time in Korea.

  • Two linyphiid spiders, Saitonia kawaguchikonis Saito & Ono, 2001 and Asthenargus niphonius Saito & Ono, 2001 were confirmed from Korea for the first time. Males of S. kawaguchikonis and a female of A. niphonius were collected with pitfall traps in a leaf litter of mixed forests in three National Parks (Hallyeohaesang National Park, Mt. Naejangsan, and Mt. Sobaeksan) during the seasonal surveys for the spider fauna in mountainous terrain from 2018 to 2020. These two species were formerly known from China and Japan, or only from Japan, respectively. The present study describes these two species with measurements, morphological illustrations, and a distribution map. This report adds the genus Asthenargus Simon & Fage, 1922 from Korea to the Korean spider fauna for the first time.

  • Wetlandsis developing on the lava plateau in Eundae-ri, even though there are no majorstreams into this area. As a result of drilling, 1~2m clay layer is founded under the superficial formations of the wetland, which are the main reasons for formation of the wetlands by limiting vertical drainage. The clay layer's Granulometry/XRD show very different characteristics from in situ weathering of basalt, and since 2~3cm of sand layer exist within the profile, the clay layer seems to be supplied and deposited from outside through surface/sheet flows. To keep the wetlands sustainably, the supply of water into the wetlands has to be increased by restoring the surface/sheet flow which is limited or deformed by pavement road.

  • Segmented planar imaging detector for electro-optical reconnaissance (SPIDER) is an emerging technology for optical imaging. However, this novel detection approach is faced with degraded imaging quality. In this study, a 6 × 6 planar waveguide is used after each lenslet to expand the field of view. The imaging principles of field-plane waveguide structures are described in detail. The local multiple-sampling simulation mode is adopted to process the simulation of the improved imaging system. A novel image-reconstruction algorithm based on deep learning is proposed, which can effectively address the defects in imaging quality that arise during image reconstruction. The proposed algorithm is compared to a conventional algorithm to verify its better reconstruction results. The comparison of different scenarios confirms the suitability of the algorithm to the system in this paper.

  • Kim (1970) was an early, comprehensive foundation for the taxonomy of Korean spider wasps. All the species therein are reviewed, and an annotated checklist comprising 21 species is presented. Species names are corrected in terms of current taxonomy. Based on the re-examination of voucher specimens, five misidentifications are rectified, of which two species rectified as Priocnemis(Leptopriocnemis) cyphonota and P.(Umbripennis) pseudojaponica are new to Korea. Also, occurrences of two species (Anoplius eous and An. viaticus) in Korea, which was doubted by Lelej et al. (1994), are confirmed. On the other hand, exclusions of two species (Irenangelus perinx and Priocnemis mitakensis) from the Korean fauna are proposed. However, the need for further study on six species (Anoplius reflexus, An. infuscatus, Arachnospila eisukei or Ar. fumipennis eisukei, Auplopus obtusus, Priocnemis irritablis) historically mentioned for the Korean fauna is newly recognized. The current taxonomic status of those species is briefly discussed.
