  • In this paper, the errors found in the existed analytical solutions described the mechanism of residual pore-water pressure accumulation were examined and a new analytical was proposed. The new analytical solution was derived by using a Fourier series expansion and separation of variables was verified by comparison with the existed both analytical and numerical solutions and experimental result. The new analytical solution is very simple that there is no need for numerical integration for deep soil thickness. In addition, the solutions of the residual pore-water pressure for finite, deep, and shallow soil thickness reveled that it is possible to approach from finite to shallow soil thickness, but not possible to deep soil thickness because there was discontinues zone between finite and deep soil thickness.

  • In order to analyze movement of soil moisture, Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR) with multiplex system has been installed at the Bumreunsa hillslope of Sulmachun Watershed to configure spatial-temporal variation pattern considering seasonal characteristic. An intensive surveying was performed to build a refined digital elevation model(DEM) and flow determination algorithms with inverse surveying have been applied to establish an efficient soil moisture monitoring system. Soil moisture data were collected through an intensive and long term monitoring 380 hrs in November of 2003 and 1037 hrs in May and June of 2004. Soil moisture data shows corresponding variation characteristics of soil moisture on the up slope, buffer, main channel zones of the hillslope which were classified from terrain analysis. Measured soil moisture data were discussed in conjunction with flow characteristic through terrain analysis. Regardless season, immediate responses of soil moisture about rainfall looks similar but recession and recharge are primary characteristics of intermediate soil moisture variation for spring to summer and fall to winter season, respectively.

  • This study was carried out to investigate experimentally the effect of three factors(dynamic load, inflation pressure and number of passes of tire) on soil compaction under the tire. The experiment were conducted with a 6.00R14 radial-ply tire for sandy loam soil using soil bin system. To evaluate the effect of three factors on soil compaction under the tire, the sinkage. density and volume of soil under the tire were measured fur the three levels of dynamic load(1.17kN, 2.35kN and 3.53kN), for the three levels of tire inflation pressure(103.42kPa, 206.84kPa and 413.67kPa), and for three different number of passes(1, 3 and 5). The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. As dynamic load, inflation pressure and number of passes of the tire increased, soil sinkage and density increased. and volume of soil decreased. Thus increase in dynamic load, inflation pressure and number of passes of the tire would increase soil compaction. 2. The effect of tire inflation pressure on sinkage. density and volume of soil under the tire was relatively less than that of the dynamic load. Therefore, it was concluded that dynamic load was more important factor affecting soil compaction in comparison to the inflation pressure of tire. 3. The effect of three different factors on sinkage, density and volume of soil decreased as the soil depth increase. Consequently, it was fecund that soil compaction at a shallow depth in soil was larger than that at deep place in soil.
