  • A mathematical model was developed to predict the temperature, the density, and the velocity distribution of an inductively coupled thermal plasma. It was for an atmospheric pressure argon thermal plasma generated by a 4 MHz radio frequency power. It has been shown that the hottest region can be moved toward centrial region by applying an external magnetic field. Based on the results of the simulation. an ICP(Inductively Coupled thermal Plasma) system was constructed and thermal plasma was generated.

  • Malocclusion is a serious complication of open reduction surgery for facial fractures. It is often caused by the lack of adequate consideration for the occlusal relationship before the trauma and intermaxillary fixation during the operation. This is a case report of postoperative malocclusion that occurred in a patient with a midfacial complex fracture.

  • Fabrication of MEA is important factor for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). MEA of PEMFC with hot pressing and direct coating method were prepared, and performances were evaluated and compared each other. The effect of MEA preparation methods, hot pressing methods and direct coating methods, on the cell performance was analyzed by impedance spectroscopy and SEM. The performance of PEMFC with direct coating method was better than with hot pressing method because membrane internal resistance and membrane-interfacial resistance were reduced by elimination of hot pressing process in MEA fabrication. In addition the micro structure of MEA with direct coating method reveals uniform interface between membrane and catalyst layer.

콩(Glycine max)의 공생균주 Bradyrhizobium japonicum SNU001의 특성 (Characteristics of Bradyrhizobium japonicum SNU001, aSsymbiotic Strain of Glycion max)

  • The root nodules and Glycine max were classified as determinate nodule based on their morphological characteristics, and isolated endosymbiont as a Bradyrhizobium based on its growth rate and single subpolar flagellum. The isolate was similar to B. japonicum USDA110 in utilization of carbon source, growth at 38.deg.C and 2% NaCl, production of $H_{2}$S and especially in the restriction endonuclease digestion pattern of symbiotic genes, allowing them to be placed in sTI group together. The former, however, grew better than the later in broad pH range from 5.0 to 9.5. Infectivity and effectivity of the isolate were confirmed by inoculation of soybean seedlings with the isolates. Characteristics of the reisolated endosymbiont from induced root nodules were identical to those of the first isolate. From these results, it was confirmed that Bradyrhizobium strain isolated from the root nodules of Glycine max was a real symbiont, and was named B. japonicum SNU001.

SNU WASHINGTON 측광계의 표준화와 WASHINGTON 측광계의 일반적 특성

  • 서울대 천문학과(SNU)의 Washington 측광계를 사용하여 관측한 자료와 ADC (Astronomical Data Center)의 자료를 분석함으로써 SNU Washington 측광계를 표준화 시켰다. SNU Washington 측광계중에서 C필터에 나타나는 적색광 누출은 V필터와의 결합을 통해 보정했으며, 그 최대값은 K0형에서 약 $0^{m}.14$까지 이른다. ADC의 자료분석 결과 G. K형 별들에 대해 중원소 측광지수와 중원소함량과 서로 잘 일치함을 알 수 있었고. 주계열성의 경우 온도 측광지수와 온도와는 좋은 관계를 보임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 ($M-T_2$)과 ($M-T_1$) 평면상에서는 중원소함량과 광도계급에 무관한 좋은 온도관계를 나타냄을 알았다. 그리고 이 측광계의 장점으로 나타난 CN지수와 CN 특이성과는 특별한 관계를 찾기가 어려웠고, 이 측광계만으로는 상도계급의 구분을 다른 측광계 만큼 분명하게 결정짓기가 어려웠다. 그러나 표면중력과이 측광계의 색지수와의 관계를 본 결과 초거성, 거성, 주계열성을 비교적 잘 구분해 낼 수 있었다.

비누풀 잎 추출물로부터 천연 계면활성제 개발 (Development of a Natural Surfactant from Extracts of Saponaria officinalis L.)

  • In this study, saponin content of extract from modified preconditioning process was investigated in Saponaria officinalis L. for cosmetic natural surfactant. Saponin content in steamed leaves from S. officinalis L. was about three times more than that in dried leaves (tea saponin and quillaja saponin). And saponin extracts from steamed leaves was excellently shown in both forming force and forming stability. In emulsion activity, saponin extracts from steamed leaves had a similar level to quillaja saponin and tea saponin. Saponin extracts from steamed leaves in S. officinalis L. showed nontoxic effect below in $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ of concentration and dose-dependent inhibition of NO production. From the experiment, the extracts of S. officinalis L. showed good cosmetic agent.

PEM 연료전지 분리판용 흑연입자 복합재의 성형성 평가 (Moldability of graphite composite bipolar plate for PEM fuel cell)

  • The bipolar plate is a major component of the PEM fuel cell stack, which takes a large portion of stack cost. In this study, as alternative materials fur bipolar plate of PEM fuel cells, graphite composites were fabricated by compression molding. Graphite particles mixed with epoxy resin were used as the main substance to provide electric conductivity. Flow channels were fabricated by compression molding, and design of experiments (DOE) was applied to the tests to evaluate moldability. Results showed that land width and channel depth were two significant factors for moldability, and channel width had little influence on the moldability.

위암세포주에 대한 항암제 5-FU와 alpha-interferon의 상승적 항암효과

  • 위암의 화학요법 성적이 만족스럽지 못하므로 기존의 항암제와 alpha-interferon을 병용사용하므로써 상승적 항암효과가 있는가를 연구하였다. R-25 flask에 위암세포주 SNU-1 및 SNU-16을 배양하면서 항암제 5-FU 혹은 cisplatin에 alpha-interferon 2A(제일제당)를 분자량의 비에 따라 병요처리하였다. 96시간 배양후 cytotoxicity를 Mosman의 방법에 따른 MIT방법으로 분석하였으며, 이를 Chou등의 combination index 분석 program을 처리하였다. 위암세포주 SNU-1에 대하여 5-FU와 alpha-IFN은 상승작용을 보였다. 5-FU의 $IC_{50}$/가 14.25$\mu$M 이었고 IFN처리시는 $IC_{50}$/가 0.02$\mu$M이었으며 combination index(CI)는 모든 용량에서 1이하였다. SNU-16에 대하여도 5-FU와 alpha-IFN의 병용사용은 상승적 작용을 나타내었다. (CI<1.0). cisplatin과 alpha-IFN의 병용시에는 CI가 1이상을 나타내어 상승작용을 증명할 수 없었다.

Synthesis and in vitro Antitumor Activity of 2-Alkyl, 2-Aryl, and 2-Piperazinyl Benzimidazole-4, 7-dione Derivatives

  • A series of 2-alkyl, 2-aryl, and 2-piperazinyl benzimidazole-4,7-dione derivatives (7a-h) and 16m-o) were prepared, and their cytotoxicities were tested against three cancer cell lines (mouse lymphocytic leukemia cell line P388, and human gastric carcinoma cell lines SNU-1 and SNU-16). These compounds showed potent cytotoxicity against all of three cell lines tested, and especially SNU-16 was sensitive to them. 2-Aryl (7g,h) and 2-piperazinyl benzimidazole-4,7-dione derivative (I6 m) were more potent than mitomycin C against P388 and SNU-16. Among benzimidazole-4,7-dione derivatives with alkyl group at position 2, 7a had the most potent cytotoxicity against all of the cell lines tested.
