해사영어는 선박 운항, 해양 안전, 선내 의사소통 및 선외 교신을 위해 설계된 특수한 영어 언어체계이다. 국제해사기구 STCW(선원의 훈련, 자격증명 및 당직근무의 기준에 관한 국제협약)에 따르면 국제항해에 종사하는 항해사가 되기 위해서는 SMCP를 포함한 해사영어 대한 충분한 이해가 수반되어야 한다. 본 연구는 음성인식, 번역, 단어 기입 등 유형의 해사영어시험을 통하여 학생들의 해사영어 활용 능력을 측정하고 플랫폼 사용에 따른 시험 점수 향상 정도, 나아가 초임항해사로 나가기 위하여 요구되는 해사영어 시험 플랫폼 활용 시간 등을 조사하고자 하였다. 실험은 먼저 초기 시험을 통해 학생들의 일반영어능력과 SMCP 활용 능력에 대한 연관성을 조사한 후, 중간 시험 및 최종 시험을 통해 플랫폼 활용에 대한 점수 향상 정도, 응시시간 변화 등 요인을 측정하였다. 초기 시험을 통해 개인 요인(예: 토익 점수, 본인 스스로에 대한 영어능력 평가)에 따른 그룹 간 해사영어시험 점수에 유의한 차이가 있음을 확인하였으며, 중간시험 및 최종시험을 통해 플랫폼 활용이 유의한 시험점수 향상으로 이어졌음을 확인하였다. 해당 연구는 해사 교육분야에 다양하게 적용할 수 있는 학습 플랫폼 활용 효능을 조사하였으며 향후 해사영어 교육 외 그 범위를 넓혀 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Success of communication at sea is directly linked with clear and complete delivery and receipt of the target message between interlocutors. It can be said that speakers' effective delivery of their intended message and listeners' precise decoding and accurate understanding are the keys to successful maritime communication. From this perspective, the scope of maritime English education and training needs to be reconceptualized and expanded into the area of communication itself, beyond the simple acquisition of, and familiarization with, IMO Standard Maritime Communication Phrases (SMCP). Therefore, in order to make learners' acquisition of marine communication knowledge more feasible, and the knowledge learned more practically applicable, training on effective and clear oral delivery should be also considered within the frame of maritime English education. Thus, critical training elements to realize this goal need to be suggested as guidelines. In this presentation, the theoretical background on this will be introduced in terms of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and Lingua Franca Core (LFC), which are the current mainstream forms of English communication in the international business context. Based on this, six key training elements will be discussed; that is, speech rate, word groups, pauses, nuclear stresses, consonants (including consonant clusters), and vowels (specifically long and short vowels). Finally, the practical pedagogical methods of each element, and its actual application into a real ESP classroom, will be suggested.

전 세계 해기교육기관에서 해사영어(Maritime English, ME)를 가르치고 있는 교원들이 모여 매년 개최하는 IMEC (International Maritime English Conference)을 소개하고, 2015년에 개최된 제27차 컨퍼런스의 프로그램을 우리 회원들에게 안내하고자 하며, IMEC 27에서 소개된 ChatBot를 가지고 참석한 회원들과 함께 진행하는 워크숍을 개최하고자 한다.

이 논문은 선박의 자동조타장치를 음성인식으로 제어할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하기 위한 기초연구로 SMCP(IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases)에 제시된 조타명령문의 구성 형태를 분석하여 화자의 의도를 예측할 수 있는 특정 파라미터를 추출하였다. 그리고 이 파라미터를 이용하여 1차 패턴인식 과정으로부터 도출된 후보단어 집합으로부터 최종 단어를 결정하는 후처리 인식 프로시저를 설계하였다. 이 프로시저의 유용성을 검증하기 위하여 음성인식용으로 총 525개의 조타명령문을 획득하였고, 표준패턴 기반의 인식과정 인식률과의 비교실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 의도예측 특정 파라미터를 이용한 인식 프로시저의 인식률이 약 42.3% 향상되어 유효함을 알 수 있었다.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of alpha-glucosyl rutin (G-rutin) and its comparative effects with other antioxidants (glutathione: GSH, catalase: CATA and beta-mercaptoethanol : ${\beta}ME$) on dog sperm freezing. In the first experiment (E1), the spermatozoa were diluted in freezing extender supplemented with 0 (control), 0.001, 0.01, or 0.1% G-rutin and frozen using liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$). The progressive motility, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and apoptosis of spermatozoa were assessed after sperm thawing at $37^{\circ}C$ for 25 sec. In the second experiment (E2), 0.1% G-rutin group was compared with 10 mM ${\beta}-ME$, $5{\mu}M$ GSH and $50{\mu}M$ CATA groups by assaying progressive motility, viability and gene expression of Bcl-2 and SMCP after sperm freezing and thawing. In E1, 0.1% G-rutin group showed higher (P < 0.05) post-thaw progressive motility and lower (P < 0.05) ROS levels. In E2, the expressions of SMCP in G-rutin group were higher (P < 0.05) than in CATA group while Bcl-2 expression of G-rutin group was higher (P < 0.05) than ${\beta}-ME$ and CATA groups. However, there were no significant differences in progressive motility and viability. Therefore, we suggest that G-rutin can be used as a potentially antioxidative supplement in dog sperm freezing extender on the basis of gene expression related to motility and apoptosis as well as ROS level.

선원의 훈련, 자격증명 및 당직근무의 기준에 관한 국제협약(STCW)은 상선에 당직사관으로 승선하기 위하여 갖추어야 할 요건을 명시하고 있다. 해사영어 활용능력은 STCW에서 중요하게 다루어지는 자격요건 중 하나로, 각 국가 담당 기관은 국내외 규정에 적합한 해사영어 교육을 시행하고 있다. 본 연구는 예비 해기사 대상 영어능력 배경설문조사를 시행하여 해사영어학습 및 활용능력과 연관성 있는 개인 요인들을 분석하였다. 나아가 표준해사영어(SMCP) 학습 플랫폼 활용 실험을 통해 성적향상 정도를 측정하고 그 효과성을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 해기교육에서의 해사영어 자동채점 플랫폼 적용 가능성을 조사하였으며 향후 해사영어 교육 외에 그 범위를 넓혀 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

최근 해양자원 및 산업개발, 해양관광산업 등의 발달로 바다에 대한 관심은 더욱 증가하고 있으며 국가 간 경쟁도 나날이 치열해지고 있어, 바다를 무대로 활동하는 해양경찰의 중요성은 더욱 커지고 있다. 해양경찰의 가장 중요한 임무는 해양에서 국민의 소중한 생명과 재산을 보호하는 것이다. 이를 위해서는 경비함정을 안전하게 운항하는 것이 가장 중요하다. 경비함정을 안전하게 운항하기 위해서는 선박운용에 필수인 항해기초 항해학, 연안항법, 전파 및 레이다 항법, 항해계기, 해상기상, CORLEG(항법), 함정운용, 함정조종론, 해사일반(함정의 감항성), 해사영어(SMCP), VTS 교육과 SHS를 활용한 함정운항 심화 교육인 선위측정(GPS 및 레이다이용), CBT 실습(항해장비 운용법, 조함 명령법), 시뮬레이션 MOCK-UP 실습(상황별 항해실습, 자기주도실습, 함정운용술 고도화)과 더불어 함정의 비상상황에 대비한 교육 및 다양하고 심도 있는 항해 전문화 교육이 필요하다.

The frequency of abnormality at birth is average 1-1.5%, and of these, cleft lip & palate is known to be the most frequent congenital abnormality, Cleft is considered to be due to multi-factorial heredity correlated with genetic and environmental factors, Cleft patients require the collaborative treatment with several medical departments, Clinics for Maxillo-Oral Disorders of Tohoku University Dental Hospital performs the total managements related to such as occlusion and language for the patients with congenital maxilla-facial abnormality, This study examined the patients with cleft lip and/or palate who came to the Clinics for Maxilla-Oral Disorders of Tohoku University Dental Hospital for the past 17 years from Jan. 1987 to Dec, 2002, and had the results as follows, 1. Annual mean number of patients The annual mean number of the patients for 17 years from Jan, 1987 to Dec, 2002 was 91 patients, ranging from 63 minimum to 116 maximum, 2, Gender and types of cleft There were 747(51%) males and 709(49%) females, with a male to female ratio 1,05:1. CLP was the most frequent cleft type as shown in 616 patients, and other patients manifested different complaints such as CL, CP, SMCP and MC in order. 3. The laterality in cleft type The lip cleft was frequently expressed orderly on left, right and both sides of CL patients while orderly being shown on left, both and right sides of CLP patients. Accordingly, lip cleft was most commonly found on the left side. 4. Address at first visit Of 1,456 subjects, 850(58.4%) patients were residing in Miyagi Prefecture, where this hospital is located. 5. Age at first visit 615(42.2%) patients came to the hospital at their age younger than 1 year old, comprising 282(19.4%) patients age younger than 2 months old and 333(22.9%) patients age between 2 month old and 1 year old. 6. Mother's age at birth For the mother's age at birth, 526(39.9%) patients were at the age of 25 to 30 years old, and 17(1.3%) patients were over 40 years old. 7. Birth weight 34.3%(443 patients) had a birth weight of 2500-3000gm and 56.0%(724 patients) had a 3000-4000gm. It was also found that 7.9%(102 patients) had a birth weight of less than 2500gm. 8. Familial expression The frequency of familial expression was 6.5%(94 patients).
