This paper presents a network-based traction control system(TCS), where several electric control units(ECUs) are connected by a controller area network(CAN) communication system. The control system consists of four ECUs: the electric throttle controller, the transmission controller, the engine controller and the traction controller. In order to validate the traction control algorithm of the network-based TCS and evaluate its performance, a Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) environment was developed. Herein we propose a new concept of the HILS environment called the network-based HILS(Net-HILS) for the development and validation of network-based control systems which include smart sensors or actuators. In this study, we report that we have designed a network-based TCS, validated its algorithm and evaluated its performance using Net-HILS.
In order to secure the reliability of the power system and to increase the penetration level of distributed energy resources (DERs), requirements such as IEEE 1547 have been revised to strengthen the grid connection standards for DER. This paper proposes a control scheme for smart inverter functions based on IEEE 1547-2018 that satisfy these standards, and introduces a power HILS-based test platform built for verification of smart inverter. Among the smart inverter functions, Volt-var and Frequency-watt allow the curve to be set from the upper level to comply with the interoperability and operation time of enable signals for each function are controlled by references from the upper level. According to the requirement, Volt-var and Frequency-watt are performed via power HILS platform and verified through the measurement results that all of the specified type tests were satisfied.

A hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) method for a wind farm controller using a real time digital simulator (RTDS) is presented, and performance of the wind farm controller is analyzed. A 100 MW wind farm which includes 5 MW wind power generation systems (WPGS) is modeled and analyzed in RSCAD/RTDS. The wind farm controller is implemented by using a computer, which is connected to the RTDS through transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP). The HILS results show the active power and power factor of the wind farm, which are controlled by the wind farm controller. The proposed HILS method in this paper can be effectively utilized to validate and test a wind farm controller under the environment in practice without a real wind farm.

As interest in the 4th Industrial Revolution increases, the CPS, in which things existing in the reality and things existing in the virtual interact with each other, is attracting attention as an important technology. Complex systems such as electric vehicles, autonomous driving, smart factories, and smart grid system are considered as core technology fields of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and many types of research have been conducted to develop it. The reliability of the system is directly related to the safety of people in case of the autonomous driving, and verification of the actual vehicle's hardware and software of ADAS is essential. In this paper, we proposed distributed simulation middleware supporting HILS for reliable verification of the complex hybrid systems.
The tilt-rotor Smart UAV(Unmanned Air Vehicle) has been developed by KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) for civil purposes. In order to prove the reliabilities of total system of Smart UAV, the series of ground tests were performed including system interface test, aircraft HILS(Hardware In the Loop Simulation) Test, ground power test, 4-DOF (Degrees of Freedom)rig test, and tethered hover test. Many unexpected problems occurred at each ground test. With clearing these problems, the total Smart UAV systems were matured and the airworthiness was proven enough. After complete of additional ground test proposed by FRRB(Flight Readiness Review Board), the first flight test will be performed in this year. This paper presents the procedures and the analysis results of the ground tests for the tilt-rotor Smart UAV.

This study presents the development of Gateway Control Module using SAE J1939 protocol for the commercial vehicles. Presently, the load rate of CAN bus is increased by the single network composition and addition of new ECUs for development of intelligent vehicles. Because the embedded system of the integrated network control function has the errors of the CAN bus caused by the increase of ECU, it is needed for development of commercial vehicles. Also, this study presents the development of smart functions that can diagnosis CAN bus errors, fault diagnosis of ECU and basic function that arbitrates CAN bus between ECUs of commercial vehicle. GCM was designed for 4channel separation about Gateway function as solution of load rate decrease and smart functions. HILS(Hardware in the loop simulation)system that can achieve simulation about CAN Messages of all systems on vehicle was applied to evaluate performance and verification of all functions and performance. The load rate on CAN bus was decreased at using functions what was delivery, block and process of GCM. Through this, it was enabled to organize systematic architecture for gateway.

Traffic Signal Evaluation HILS is a system designed to evaluate a traffic signal system, and has a function of driving that simulates a real environment using a simulator that simulates a real traffic signal environment and an LCS that simulates a traffic signal controller. This study simulates the function of the traffic signal controller and is designed for design the LCS which is connected to the center system and the traffic simulator (VISSIM). The design of the LCS program uses a portable python language, and the code is designed in two versions running on Windows in the PC environment and unning on embedded environment, with a slight modification of the code. In this study, we analyzed the limitations of using LCS on Windows in PC environment and confirmed the ease of simulation Linux in embedded environment at large capacity.

A multi-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is widely used in large-capacity electric propulsion systems such as submarines and electric ships. In particular, in the field of military submarines, the polyphaser motor must suppress torque ripple in various failure situations to reduce noise and ensure stable operation for a long time. In this paper, we propose a polyphaser current control method that can improve efficiency and reduce torque ripple by minimizing the increase in stator winding loss at maximum output torque by controlling the phase angle and amplitude of the steady-state current during open circuit failure of the stator winding. The proposed control method controls the magnitude and phase angle of the healthy phase current, excluding the faulty phase, to compensate for the torque ripple that occurs in the case of a phase open failure of the motor. The magnitude and phase angle of the controlled steady-state current are calculated for each phase so that copper loss increase is minimized. The proposed control method was verified using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) of a 12-phase BLDC motor. HILS verification confirmed that the increase in the loss of the stator winding and the magnitude of the torque ripple decreased compared with the open phase fault of the motor.

This paper is about a redundancy management system design for the Smart UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) which utilizes the tilt..rotor mechanism. In order to meet the safety requirement on the PLOC(probability of loss of control) of $1.7{\times}10^{-5}$ per flight hour for FCS (flight control system) failures, a digital FCS is mechanized with a dual redundant structure. A fault detection system which is composed of a CCM(cross channel monitor) and analytic redundancy using the Kalman filtering is designed, and its effectiveness is evaluated through experiments. A threshold level and persistence count for managing redundant sensors are designed based on the statistical analysis of the FCS sensors. To increase the survivability of the UAV after the loss of critical sensors in the SAS(stability augmentation system) and to provide reference information for a tie-breaking condition at which an ILM(in-line monitor) cannot distinguish the faulty channel between two operating ones, the Kalman filter approach is investigated.
