A method of plane expansion of reinforced concrete apartments using precast concrete was developed. The method increased the stiffness of the precast slab using two ribs and allowed to cast concrete for multi stories. The proposed precast system is capable to construct concrete slabs without props. Ten reinforced concrete slabs were tested in order to investigate the stiffness increase of the developed precast slab with two rids. Comparison between the proposed precast slab and the slab without ribs indicated that the deflection of the precast slab was decreased by using rids.

Early age cracking of concrete is a widespread and complicated problem, and diverse applications in practical engineering have focused on this issue. Since massive concrete base slab composes the infrastructure of other concrete structures such as pier, concrete dam, and high rise buildings, early age cracking of that is considered as a crucial problem. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) implemented with the age-dependent microplane model was performed. For a massive concrete base slab, cracking initiation and propagation, and deformation variation were investigated with concrete age. In massive concrete slab, autogenous shrinkage increases the risk of early age cracking and it reduces reinforcement effect on control of early age cracking. Gradual crack occurrence is experienced from exterior surface towards interior of the slab in case of combined hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage. FEA implemented with enhanced microplane model successfully simulates the typical cracking patterns due to edge restraint in concrete base slab.

Receiving room's floor impact sound level is been influenced to various factor of slab thickness, room size, structure etc. This study examined the noise of upper part slab and room mode in receiving room to be importance factor that influence in receiving room level among this factors. According to this study, vibration mode in slab and room mode are concentrated on frequency that is high level relatively. This causes bad effect in floor impact sound level. Therefore, method to reduce floor impact sound level is to change vibration mode using slab upper part's resilient material or reduce room mode in receiving room.

In this study, it is outlined that heavy weight floor impact noise induced by the vibration of slab can be reduced by multi tuned mass damper(MTMD) effectively. Substructure synthesis is utilized to develope analytical model of slab coupled with MTMD and acoustic power is introduced to evaluate the performance of noise control for simplicity. Numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the effect of the properties of MTMD on the vibration and noise control. Numerical analysis shows that mass ratio of MTMD is critical on the vibration and noise control of the slab and it is essential to reduce the vibration in higher modes of slab because it has a great effect on the radiation of sound.
In the recent railway construction, the concrete slab track is highlighted as the maintenance-free track and the main stream is moving from ballasted track to concrete slab track. However, in spite of many merits of concrete slab track, the higher noise generated from the concrete slab track is a troublesome question to solve and, by this reason, many studies on noise reduction of concrete slab track are carried out. The railway noise can be classified into the reflection noise emitted from wheel/rail contact and the structure-borne noise transmitted through railway structures. In this presentation, we would like to introduce an example of the successful reduction of structure-borne noise at track retrofitting to maintenance-free concrete slab track in elevated Changdong Station which was built with ballasted track on Rahmen structure.
The railroad systems with the ballast tracks have been widely used for a long time. But recently, the use of the slab track is being increased gradually with a technical developments. So, this paper deals with the appliance of the slab tracks on the railroad bridges. Firstly, review the design criteria of the railroad bridges related to the slab tracks for the stability and serviceability, based on DIN and EURO code. Then, perform the analysis of the railroad prestressed concrete bridges, and check whether the results of the analysis satisfy the design criteria. Finally, find the construction condition of bridges that all the design criteria are satisfied. As a result, to maintain the stability and serviceability of the bridges, bridges must have some restrictions, including a time of installation of the slab tracks. So, the construction schedule for the erection of the bridges will be carefully considered in case of the concrete railroad bridges with the slab tracks.

This paper investigates the thermal storage performance of the office building which has adopted an air conditioning system with its slab structure as a regenerator. Four cases of the thermal storage performance experiment were conducted. Room air temperatures, floor slab temperatures, temperatures around the air conditioning unit were logged and analyzed. The load handling capacity of the air conditioning unit and the amount of heat stored in the slab were decided from those experiments. Several efficiencies were investigated to evaluate the performance of the thermal storage. The results concluded that the slab as a regenerator is very effective in cutting down peak loads of the office building.

In the rail facilities, the rail track consists of rail, tie, fastening, accessories and bed. The rail track is largely divided into Ballast Bed Track (BBT) and Concrete Bed Track (CBT) according to the type of bed. In this thesis, among Concrete Bed Track, slab track, which is used for the Japanese high speed railway, is a target of this study. Dynamic analysis by using finite element method are performed where moving train load is periodic function. Then through parametric study, some conclusions are obtained as follows. Cement Asphalt Mortar (CAM) affects contrary mechanical behavior to rail and slab greatly. Therefore, change of CAM spring coefficient should be handled with care. For slab thickness, thin slab is more profitable to reduction of vibration of rail than thick one but mechanical capacity of slab is deteriorated. Improved structural type is proposed, then structural analysis is performed for this one. This type is effective to reduction of vibration of railway system.

Two-way concrete slab is often modeled as an orthotropic plate. In the modeling, flexural rigidities of the slab which depend upon the re-bar quantity have to be taken into account. Elastic equivalence technique in which the equilibrium and compatibility of the cross-section of slab satisfied is utilized to determine th flexural rigidities. In the analysis Navier's method is applied on the concrete slab with all edges simply supported under inform lateral load. In addition to the analysis using orthotropic plate theory, finite element method is also adopted to suggest the finite element modeling and to investigate the applicability of the method. Results obtained by both methods were compared and it is observed that the difference of the results was increased as the ratio of re-bar quantity increased.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of expansion joint spacing (slab size) on the life cycle costs of owning Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) airfield pavements. Previous research has shown that slab size has a statistically significant impact on pavement performance. A probabilistic life cycle cost analysis was performed to determine if the effect of slab size on pavement performance would affect the total cost of ownership of PCC pavements. Data from 48 Pavement Condition Index (PCI) inspections of military and civilian airfields were used to develop probability-of-distress-by-condition curves, which were then used to develop probabilistic cost-of-repair-by-condition curves. A present worth life cycle cost analysis was then performed for various slab sizes, using construction costs, rehabilitation costs, and maintenance costs. Maintenance costs were determined by assuming a condition deterioration rate appropriate for each slab size and applying the cost-by-condition curves. The probabilistic cost-of-repair-by-condition curves indicated that smaller slabs are more expensive to repair on a unit cost basis. Life cycle cost analysis showed that larger slabs have a higher total cost of ownership than smaller slabs due to a faster rate of deterioration.
