  • Bluetooth is an open specification technology for short-range wireless connectivity between electronic devices. This paper analyzes the effects of interference on the performance of a Bluetooth system. Two performance criteria used in the study are the signal to interference power ratio (SIR) and the bit error rate (BER) of the bits received. The interference from various sources on the performance of a Bluetooth device is analyzed, and these quantities are plotted against Eb/No and SIR for various channel conditions in figures.

  • This paper describes the development of portable arousal measurement and analysis system. Skin impedance change which responds to the change of arousal level was detected by the three elctrode constant current method and separated into two components(SIR, SIL). Relationship between Nz, IRI and arousal level was studied and criteria of arousal level control was decided by the sleep study. Measured data with and without warning signal were compared and analyzed.

  • Purpose: To study whether breastfeeding and breastfeeding status during gluten introduction influences the age at diagnosis of celiac disease (CD). In addition to study, whether the timing of gluten introduction influences the age at diagnosis of CD. Methods: It was a hospital based observational study. Total 198 patients diagnosed with CD as per modified European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (2012) criteria, aged between 6 months to 6 years were included. Detail history taken with special emphasis on breastfeeding and age of gluten introduction. Standard statistical methods used to analyze the data. Results: $Mean{\pm}standard$ deviation age of onset and diagnosis of CD in breastfed cases was $2.81{\pm}1.42$ years and $3.68{\pm}1.55$ years respectively as compared to $1.84{\pm}1.36$ years and $2.70{\pm}1.65$ years respectively in not breastfed cases (p<0.05). Those who had continued breastfeeding during gluten introduction and of longer duration had significantly delayed onset of disease. The age at onset of CD was under one year in 40.42% of the cases, who had started gluten before 6 months of age compared to only 12.58% of those who had started gluten later (p<0.001). The proposed statistical model showed that two variables, i.e., breast feeding status during gluten introduction and age at gluten introduction positively influencing the age at diagnosis of CD. Conclusion: Delayed gluten introduction to infant's diet along with continuing breastfeeding, delays symptomatic CD. However, it is not clear from our study that these infant feeding practices provide permanent protection against the disease or merely delays the symptoms.

  • According to recent studies, Bayesian information criteria(BIC) is proposed to determine the structural dimension of the central subspace through sliced inverse regression(SIR) with high-dimensional predictors. The BIC may be useful in K-means clustering inverse regression(KIR) with high-dimensional predictors. However, the direct application of the BIC to KIR may be problematic, because the slicing scheme in SIR is not the same as that of KIR. In this paper, we present empirical penalty term studies of BIC in KIR to identify the most appropriate one. Numerical studies and real data analysis are presented.

  • RPersonal area networking technology is becoming increasingly important in enabling useful wireless home applications. For example, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b standards are the most commonly deployed technologies for wireless home applications. However, because both standards share the same unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) radio spectrum, severe interference is inevitable and performance can be impaired significantly when heterogeneous devices using the two technologies come into close proximity. In this paper, we research Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system, which is an open specification technology for short-range wireless connectivity between electronic devices. In this paper, we analyzes the effects of co-channel interference on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system. Performance criteria used in the study are the signal to interference power ratio (SIR), interference index, and the bit error rate (BER) in the wireless channel. The effect of co-channel interference from various sources on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system is analyzed using an IGA(Impulsive Gaussian Approximation) method, and these quantities are plotted against Eb/No, $\rho$ and SIR for various channel conditions in figures.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques can be used for the spectral efficiency enhancement of the cellular systems, which can be categorized into spatial multiplexing (SM) and spatial diversity schemes. MIMO systems suffer a severe performance degradation due to the intercell interference from the adjacent cells as the mobile terminal moves toward the cell boundary. Therefore for the spectral efficiency enhancement, an appropriate transmission scheme for the given channel environment and reception scheme which can mitigate the intercell interference are required. In this paper, we propose an adaptive signal transmission/reception scheme for the spectral efficiency improvement of $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems, present the decision criteria for the adaptive operation of the proposed scheme, and demonstrate the performance gain. The proposed scheme performs adaptive transmission using spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity, and adaptive reception using maximal ratio combining (MRC) and intercell spatial demultiplexing (ISD) when the spatial diversity transmission is used at the transmitter. Spatial multiplexing/demultiplexing is performed at the high signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) range, and the transmit diversity in conjunction with the adaptive reception uses either conventional MRC or ISD which can mitigate the $M_R-1$ interference signals, based on the mobile location. For the performance evaluation of the proposed adaptive scheme, the probability density function (pdf) of the effective SIR for the transmission/reception methods in consideration are derived for $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems. Using the results, the average effective SIR and spectral efficiency are presented and compared with simulation results.

  • A new downlink beamforming method is proposed for coherent detection of Cellular systems with BPSK modulation where there exists only common pilot channel. To solve phase mismatch between traffic and pilot signals at desired mobile and to reduce interference to other mobiles, the proposed downlink beamforming method considers a cost function of signal to interference ratio criteria and gives a solution for the cost function. The computer simulation showed that the proposed method can solve the phase mismatch problem and give improved BER performance in time-varying channels.

  • In this paper, the interaural intensity difference (IID)-based sounr source separation method in closely spaced stereo omnidirectional microphones is proposed. First, in order to improve the channel separability, a minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer is employed to increase the intensity difference between stereo channels. After that, IID-based sound source separation method is applied. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, source-to-distortion ratio (SDR), source-to-interference ratio (SIR), and sources-to-artifacts ratio (SAR), which are defined as objective evaluation criteria in stereo audio source separation evaluation campaign (SASSEC), are measured. As a result, it was shown from the objective evaluation that the proposed method outperforms a sound source separation method without applying a beamformer.

  • This paper describes the arousal measurement and the control system using fuzzy logic to prevent drowsy driving. Sugeno's method was used for fuzzy inference in this study. Membership function and rule base were determined form the modfied arousal level criteria. The output of fuzzy inference tracked well the change of subject's arousal level. When IRI(Inter-SIR interval) was under the 60sec, maximum output of three step warning method was medium sound, but that of fuzzy logic system was changed from medium to big. Furthermore, the output of the fuzzy inference was highly correlated with $N_{z}$(r=0.99). Therefore, the fuzzy inference method for evaluation and the control of arousal will be more effective at real driving sityation than three step warning method.ning method.
