The simulation of nondestructive testing has been used in the prediction of the signal characteristics of various defects and in the development of the procedures. CIVA, a simulation tool dedicated to nondestructive testing, has good accuracy and speed, and provides a three-dimensional graphical user interface for improved visualization and familiar data displays consistent with an NDE technique. Even though internal validations have been performed by the CIVA software development specialists, an independent validation study is necessary for the assessment of the accuracy of the software prior to practical use. In this study, time of flight diffraction signals of ultrasonic inspection of a calibration block for reactor vessel head penetrations were simulated using CIVA. The results were compared to the experimentally inspected signals. The accuracy of the simulated signals and the possible range for simulation were verified. It was found that, there is a good agreement between the CIVA simulated and experimental results in the A-scan signal, B-scan image, and measurement of depth.

In this paper, a real-time implementation of the TWS(track-while-scan) system using the high-speed DSP (digital signal processor) TMS320C25 is described. First, attempts have been made to investigate the FWL (finite word length) effect, which is caused by employing a fixed point arithmetic, of implementing the Kalman filter. The real-time TWS system consists of TWS arithmetic unit, scan converter, and system controller. In addition, the TWS system is in tegrated in the Multi-Bus. In experiment, it is observed that by employing the floating point arithmetic the computation time of 0.35sec is required for tracking 8 targets simultaneously, while 0.28sec is required for the fixed point arithmetic. Since the TWS system is designed to track up to 8 targets simultaneously, we conclude that the system is enough to process Kalman filter in a real-time.

Thermal barrier coating (TBC) is an essential element consisting of a super-alloy base and ceramic coating designed to achieve long operational time under a high temperature and pressure environment. However, the top coat of TBC can be delaminated at certain temperatures with long operation time. As the delamination of TBC is directly related to the blade damage, the coupling status of the TBC should be assured for reliable operation. Conventional studies of nondestructive evaluation have been made for detecting generation of thermally grown oxide (TGO) or qualitatively evaluating delamination in TBC. In this study, the ultrasonic C-scan method was developed to obtain the damage map inside TBC by estimating the delamination in a quantitative way. All specimens were isothermally degraded at $1,100^{\circ}C$ with different time, having different partial delamination area. To detect partial delamination in TBC, the C-scan was performed by a single transducer using pulse-echo method with normal incidence. Partial delamination coefficients of 1 mm to 6 mm were derived by the proportion of the surface reflection signal and flaw signal which were theoretical signals using Rogers-Van Buren and Kim's equations. Using the partial delamination coefficients, the partial delamination maps were obtained. Regardless of the partial delamination coefficient, partial delamination area was increased when degradation time was increased in TBC. In addition, a decrease in partial delamination area in each TBC specimen was observed when the partial delamination coefficient was increased. From the portion of the partial delamination maps, the criterion for delamination was derived.

Cone-beam digital tomosynthesis (CBDT) has greatly been paid attention in the image-guided radiation therapy because of its attractive advantages such as low patient dose and less motion artifact. Image quality of tomograms is, however, dependent on the imaging conditions such as the scan angle (${\beta}_{scan}$) and the number of projection views. In this paper, we describe the principle of CBDT based on filtered-backprojection technique and investigate the optimization of imaging conditions. As a system performance, we have defined the figure-of-merit with a combination of signal difference-to-noise ratio, artifact spread function and floating-point operations which determine the computational load of image reconstruction procedures. From the measurements of disc phantom, which mimics an impulse signal and thus their analyses, it is concluded that the image quality of tomograms obtained from CBDT is improved as the scan angle is wider than 60 degrees with a larger step scan angle (${\Delta}{\beta}$). As a rule of thumb, the system performance is dependent on $\sqrt{{\Delta}{\beta}}{\times}{\beta}^{2.5}_{scan}$. If the exact weighting factors could be assigned to each image-quality metric, we would find the better quantitative imaging conditions.

Efforts have been made to reconstruct low-resolution underwater images to high-resolution ones by using the image SR (Super-Resolution) method, all to improve efficiency when acquiring side-scan sonar images. As side-scan sonar images are similar with the optical images with respect to exploiting 2-dimensional signals, conventional image restoration methods for optical images can be considered as a solution. One of the most typical super-resolution methods for optical image is a sparse coding and there are studies for verifying applicability of sparse coding method for underwater images by analyzing sparsity of underwater images. Sparse coding is a method that obtains recovered signal from input signal by linear combination of dictionary and sparse coefficients. However, it requires huge computational load to accurately estimate sparse coefficients. In this study, a sparse coding based underwater image super-resolution method is applied while a selective reconstruction method for object region is suggested to reduce the processing time. For this method, this paper proposes an edge detection and object and non object region classification method for underwater images and combine it with sparse coding based image super-resolution method. Effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by reducing the processing time for image reconstruction over 32 % while preserving same level of PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) compared with conventional method.

To reduce the effects of clutters with subsurface inhomogenities in ground-penetrating radar(GPR) images, an eigenimage based signal-processing technique is presented. If the conventional eigenimage filtering technique is applied to B-scan images of a GPR survey, relatively homogeneous clutters such as antenna ringing, direct coupling between transmitting and receiving antennas, and soil-surface reflection, can be removed sufficiently. However, since random clutters of subsurface inhomogenities still remain in the images, target signals are distorted and obscured by the clutters. According to a comparison of the eigenimage filtering results, there is different coherency between subsurface clutters and target signals. To reinforce the pixels with high coherency and reduce the pixels with low coherency, the pixel-by-pixel geometric-mean process after the eigenimage filtering is proposed here. For the validity of the proposed approach, GPR survey for detection of a metal target in a randomly inhomogeneous soil is numerically simulated by using a random media generation technique and the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method. And the proposed signal processing is applied to the B-scan data of the GPR survey. We show that the proposed approach provides sufficient enhancement of target signals as well as remarkable reduction of subsurface inhomogeneous clutters in comparison with the conventional eigenimage filtering.

Purpose Whole body bone scan, which makes up a largest percentage of nuclear medicine tests, has high sensitivity and resolution about bone lesion like osteomyelitis, fracture and the early detection of primary cancer. However, any standard for valuation has not yet been created except minimum factor. Therefore, in this study, we will analysis the method which show a quantitative evaluation index in whole body bone scan. Materials and Methods This study is conducted among 30 call patients, who visited the hospital from April to September 2014 with no special point of view about bone lesion, using GE INFINIA equipment. Enumerated data is measured mainly with patient's whole body count and lumbar vertabrae, and the things which include CNR (Contrast to Noise ratio), SNR (Signal to Noise ratio) are calculated according to the mean value signal and standard deviation of each lumbar vertabrae. In addition, the numerical value with the abdominal thickness is compared to each value by the change of scan speed and tissue equivalent material throughout the phantom examination, and compared with 1hours deleyed value. Completely, on the scale of ten, 2 reading doctors and 5 skilled radiologists with 5-years experience analysis the correlation between visual analysis with blind test and quantitative calculation. Results The whole body count and interest region count of patients have no significant correlation with visual analysis value throughout the blind test(P<0.05). There is definite correlation among CNR and SNR. In phantom examination, Value of the change was caused by the thickness of the abdomen and the scan speed. And The poor value of the image in the subject as a delay test patient could be confirmed that the increase tendency. Conclusion Now, a standard for valuation has not been created in whole body bone scan except minimum factor. In this study, we can verify the significant correlation with blind test using CNR and SNR and also assure that the scan speed is a important factor to influence the imagine quality from the value. It is possible to be some limit depending on the physiology function and fluid intake of patient even if we progress the evaluation in same condition include same injection amount, same scan speed and so on. However, that we prove the significant evaluation index by presenting quantitative calculation objectively could be considered academic value.
As the performance of the spaceborne SAR has been dramatically enhanced and demonstrated through advanced missions such as TerraSAR and LRO(Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter), the need for highly sophisticated and efficient SAR processor is also highlighted. In Korea, the activity of SAR researches has been mainly concerned with SAR image applications and the current SAR raw data studies are mostly limited to stripmap mode cases. The first Korean spaceborne SAR is scheduled to be operational from 2010 and expected to deliver vast amount of SAR raw data acquired from multiple operational scenarios including ScanSAR mode. Hence there will be an increasing demand to implement ground processing systems that enable to analyze the acquired ScanSAR data and generate corresponding images. In this paper, we have developed an efficient ScanSAR processor that can be directly applied to spaceborne ScanSAR mode data. The SPECAN(Spectrum Analysis) algorithm is employed for this purpose and its performance is verified through RADARSAT-1 ScanSAR raw data taken over Korean peninsular. An efficient quick-look processing is carried out to produce a wide-swath SAR image and compared with the conventional RDA processing case.
This paper deals with the development of RACOM(Radar Signal Detecting & Processing Computer). RACOM is a radar display system specially designed for radar scan conversion, signal processing and PCI radar image display. RACOM contains two components; i )RSP(Radar Signal Processor) board which is a PCI based board for receiving video, trigger, heading & bearing signals from radar scanner & tranceiver units and processing these signals to generate high resolution radar image, and ⅱ)Applications which perform ordinary radar display functions such as EBL, VRM and so on. Since RACOM is designed to meet a wide variety of specifications(type of output signal from tranceiver unit), to record radar images and to distribute those images in real time to everywhere in a networked environment, it can be applicable to AIS(Automatic Identification System) and VDR(Voyage Data Recorder).
Various defects are found in FPD (Flat Panel Display) manufacturing process. So detecting these defects early and reprocessing them is an important factor that reduces the cost of production. In this paper, the bare glass inspection system for the FPD which is the early process inspection system in the FPD manufacturing process is designed and implemented using the high performance and accuracy CCD line scan camera. For the preprocessing of the high speed line image data, the Image Processing Part (IPP) is designed and implemented using high performance DSP (Digital signal Processor), FIFO (First in First out), FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and the Data Management and System Control part are implemented using ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) processor to control many IPP and cameras and to provide remote users with processed data. For evaluating implemented system, experiment environment which has an area camera for reviewing and moving shelf is made.
