  • Image fusion techniques are widely used to integrate a lower spatial resolution multispectral image with a higher spatial resolution panchromatic image. However, the existing techniques either cannot avoid distorting the image spectral properties or involve complicated and time-consuming decomposition and reconstruction processing in the case of wavelet transform-based fusion. In this study a simple spectral preserve fusion technique: the Smoothing Filter-based Replacement(SFR) is proposed based on a simplified solar radiation and land surface reflection model. By using a ratio between a higher resolution image and its low pass filtered (with a smoothing filter) image, spatial details can be injected to a co-registered lower resolution multispectral image minimizing its spectral properties and contrast. The technique can be applied to improve spatial resolution for either colour composites or individual bands. The fidelity to spectral property and the spatial quality of SFM are convincingly demonstrated by an image fusion experiment using IKONOS panchromatic and multispectral images. The visual evaluation and statistical analysis compared with other image fusion techniques confirmed that SFR is a better fusion technique for preserving spectral information.

  • We verified the applicability of the developed universal model for the parameter estimation through the rainfall-runoff analysis at 16 watersheds. The existing parameter estimation equations derived from the restricted conditions sometimes, gave the meaningless results which cannot reflect the watershed characteristics and so have not widely used in the ungaged watershed. The values estimated from the developed universal model showed which are sensitive to variations of watershed characteristics. Wider applicability of SFM in ungaged watersheds is expected with the used of effective rainfall from CN method and the universal model.

  • The universal model for the parameter estimation of the Storage Function Model(SFM) was developed through the applications of the distributed model for various hypothetical watersheds and runoff conditions. The existing parameter estimation equations are based on observations and these equations which are derived from the restricted conditions are not sensitive to the variation of physical characteristics of a watershed. This study developed the universal model for the parameter estimation through the runoff simulations of 35,000 times. As the simulation results, we have known that the lag time is related to the longest stream channel characteristics and the storage coefficient is related to the watershed characteristics.

  • In the forest ecosystems, litterfall is an important component of the nutrient cycle that regulates the accumulation of soil organic matter (SOM), the input and output of the nutrients, nutrient replenishment, biodiversity conservation, and other ecosystem functions. Therefore, a profound understanding of the major processes (litterfall production and its decomposition rate) in the cycle is vital for sustainable forest management (SFM). Despite these facts, there is still a limited knowledge in tropical forest ecosystems, and further researches are highly needed. This shortfall of research-based knowledge, especially in tropical forest ecosystems, may be a contributing factor to the lack of understanding of the role of plant litter in the forest ecosystem function for sustainable forest management, particularly in the tropical forest landscapes. Therefore, in this paper, I review the role of plant litter in tropical forest ecosystems with the aims of assessing the importance of plant litter in forest ecosystems for the biogeochemical cycle. Then, the major factors that affect the plant litter production and decomposition were identified, which could direct and contribute to future research. The small set of studies reviewed in this paper demonstrated the potential of plant litter to improve the biogeochemical cycle and nutrients in the forest ecosystems. However, further researches are needed particularly on the effect of species, forest structures, seasons, and climate factors on the plant litter production and decomposition in various types of forest ecosystems.

  • The domain structures, dielectric properties, and phase transformation of (001)-oriented $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-x%PbTiO_3$ (PMN-x%PT) crystals for x=20, 30, 35, and 40 mole% have been investigated. PMN-20%PT consists of polar nano-domains (PND) which do not self-assemble into macro-domain plates. PMN-30%PT consists of PNDs which begin to self-assemble into colonies along preferred {110} planes. PMN-35PT consists of miniature polar domains on the nm scale. PMN-40%PT consists of {001} oriented lamella domains on the mm scale that have internal nano-scale heterogeneities. The dielectric properties of poled (001) PMN-x%PT single crystals have been measured for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. The results of the temperature dependence of the dielectric constant and mesh scans for the 30%PT sample demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to single domain tetragonal phase and to cubic phase with increasing temperature.

  • This paper provides a method for video augmentation using image interpolation. In computer graphics or augmented reality, 3D information of a model object is necessary to generate 2D views of the model, which are then inserted into or overlayed on environmental views or real video frames. However, we do not require any three dimensional model but images of the model object at some locations to render views according to the motion of video camera which is calculated by an SFM algorithm using point matches under weak-perspective (scaled-orthographic) projection model. Thus, a linear view interpolation algorithm is applied rather than a 3D ray-tracing method to get a view of the model at different viewpoints from model views. In order to get novel views in a way that agrees with the camera motion the camera coordinate system is embedded into model coordinate system at initialization time on the basis of 3D information recovered from video images and model views, respectively. During the sequence, motion parameters from video frames are used to compute interpolation parameters, and rendered model views are overlayed on corresponding video frames. Experimental results for real video frames and model views are given. Finally, discussion on the limitations of the method and subjects for future research are provided.

  • Many rainfall-runoff models have been used for the flood forecasting. However, the determination of rainfall-runoff model parameters is very difficult. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of flood forecasting models by studying the optimization techniques for parameter calibration of SFM, Tank, and SSARR models. We analyzed the correlations between parameters in optimization techniques, then classified the parameters into parameter groups. For this we applied the sequential calibration method through the sensitivity analysis. As the results of the analysis, the parameter groups clibration method showed better result for peak flow and clibtation time.

  • The temporal and spatial relationship of the weather elements such as rainfall and temperature is closely linked to the streamflow simulation, especially, to the flood forecasting problems. For the study area, Imjin river basin, which has the specific characteristics in geography with river cross operation between North and South Korea, the meteorological information in the northern area is totally deficiency, lead to the inaccuracy of streamflow estimation. In the paper, this problem is solved by using the combination of global (such as soil moisture content, land use) and local hydrologic components data such as weather data (precipitation, evapotranspiration, humidity, etc.) for the model-driven runoff (surface flow, lateral flow and groundwater flow) data in each subbasin. To compute the streamflow in Imjin river basin, this study is applied the hydrologic model SURR (Sejong Univ. Rainfall-Runoff) which is the continuous rainfall-runoff model used physical foundations, originally based on Storage Function Model (SFM) to simulate the intercourse of the soil properties, weather factors and flow value. The result indicates the spatial variation in the runoff response of the different subbasins influenced by the input data. The dependancy of runoff simulation accuracy depending on the qualities of input data and model parameters is suggested in this study. The southern region with the dense of gauges and the adequate data shows the good results of the simulated discharge. Eventually, the application of SURR model in Imjin riverbasin gives the accurate consequence in simulation, and become the subsequent runoff for prediction in the future process.

  • Currently, an interest in electric vehicles (EVs) exhibited by automakers, government agencies and customers make it as more attractive research. This is due to carbon dioxide emitted by conventional combustion engine that worsens the greenhouse effect nowadays. Since electric motors are the core of EVs, it is a pressing need for researchers to develop advanced electric motors. As one of the candidates, switched flux machine (SFM) is initiated in order to cope with the requirement. This paper proposes a new alternate circumferential and radial flux (AlCiRaF) of permanent magnet switched flux machines (PMSFM) for light weight electric vehicles. Firstly, AlCiRaF PMSFM is compared with the conventional PMSFM based on some design restrictions and specifications. Then the design refinements techniques are conducted by using deterministic optimization method in order to improve preliminary performance of machine. Finally the optimized machine design has achieved maximum torque and power of 47.43 Nm and 12.85 kW, respectively, slightly better than that of conventional PMSFM.

  • Laryngeal disease harms quality of life, and laryngoscopy is critical in identifying causative lesions. This study extracts and analyzes using radiomics quantitative features from the lesion in laryngoscopy images and will fit and validate a classifier for finding meaningful features. Searching the region of interest for lesions not classified by the YOLOv5 model, features are extracted with radionics. Selected the extracted features are through a combination of three feature selectors, and three estimator models. Through the selected features, trained and verified two classification models, Random Forest and Gradient Boosting, and found meaningful features. The combination of SFS, LASSO, and RF shows the highest performance with an accuracy of 0.90 and AUROC 0.96. Model using features to select by SFM, or RIDGE was low lower performance than other things. Classification of larynx lesions through radiomics looks effective. But it should use various feature selection methods and minimize data loss as losing color data.
