When the wind power system is planned to construct, it is important to understand the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of sediment. Especially, If it is the seabed unconsolidated sediment, we need to experiment on sediment through seabed unconsolidated sediment test and sediment survey. Because the sediment's properties are different as its formation, accumulation and load, unconsolidated sediment is difficult to be expected to its behavior. So we can estimate suitability for mechanical material and decrease the uncertainty through seabed unconsolidated sediment test. Seabed unconsolidated sediment test can be experimented in laboratory or in-situ as purpose, in-situ condition, economic problem. In this study, we sampled the seabed unconsolidated sediment at offshore around Korea Maritime University and measured properties of sediment through the laboratory test, showed the effect on physical properties of seabed unconsolidated sediment when the wind power system is planned to construction.
Three sediment traps were placed at the toe of sloping fields in the alpine belt of Korea and sediment removal efficiency was estimated. Soil texture of the site was sandy soil and 5 runoff and sediment events were observed during 2002. Sediment was largely affected by both the amount and intensity of rainfall. Especially, rainfall intensity seemed to have profound effect on sediment yield from sloping sandy fields. Sediment removal of the sediments ranged widely from 266 kg/ha to 16,974 kg/ha depending on tillage method, slope and slope length, and amount and intensity of rainfall. Sediment removal efficiency was estimated to be more than 98.8%. It was suggested that rational combination of sediment trap and drainage channel might well contribute to control sediment discharge from alpine sloping fields.
The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) has been used in over 100 countries to estimate potential long-term soil erosion from the field. However, the USLE estimated soil erosion cannot be used to estimate the sediment delivered to the stream networks. For an effective erosion control, it is necessary to compute sediment delivery ratio (SDR) for watershed and sediment yield at watershed outlet. Thus, the Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) was developed to compute the sediment yield at any point in watershed. In this study, the SATEEC was applied to the Sudong watershed, Chuncheon Gangwon to compare the sediment yield using area-based sediment delivery ratio (SDRA) and slope-based sediment delivery ratio (SDRS) at watershed outlet. The sediment yield using the SDRA by Vanoni, SYA and the sediment yield using the SDRS by Willams and Berndt, SYS were compared for the same sized watersheds. The 19 subwatersheds was 2.19 ha in size, the soil loss and sediment yield were estimated for each subwatershed. Average slope of main stream was about 0.86~3.17%. Soil loss and sediment yield using SDRA and SDRS were distinguished depending on topography, especially in steep and flat areas. The SDRA for all subwatersheds was 0.762, however the SDRS were estimated in the range of 0.553~0.999. The difference between SYA and SYS was -79.74~27.45%. Thus site specific slope-based SDR is more effective in sediment yield estimation than area-based SDR. However it is recommended that watershed characteristic need to be considered in estimating yield behaviors.

The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) has been used in over 100 countries to estimate potential long-term soil erosion from the field. However, the RUSLE estimated soil erosion cannot be used to estimate the sediment delivered to the stream networks. For an effective erosion control, it is necessary to compute sediment delivery ratio (SDR) for watershed and sediment yield at watershed outlet. Thus, the Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) was developed in this study to compute the sediment yield at any point in the watershed. To compute spatially distributed sediment yield map, the RUSLE was first integrated with the ArcView GIS and three area based sediment delivery ratio methods were incorporated in the SATEEC. The SATEEC was applied to the Bangdong watershed, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province to demonstrate how it can be used to estimate soil loss and sediment yield for a watershed. The sediment yield using USDA SDR method is 8,544 ton/year and 4,949 ton/year with the method by Boyce. Thus, use of watershed specific SDR is highly recommended when comparing the estimated sediment yield with the measured sediment data. The SATEEC was applied with hypothetical cropping scenario and it was found that the SATEEC can be used to assess the impacts of different management on the sediment delivered to the stream networks and to find the sediment source areas for a reach of interest. The SATEEC is an efficient tool to find the best erosion control practices with its easy-to-use interface.
The objective of this study Is to supply basic data for large reservoir sedimentation research In future and make suggestions to maintain and opera능 the reservoir more of efficiently. At first, previous studios about the estimation of sediment yield rate were reviewed in Korea. And the discharge rating curves of upstream stage gauging stations and the correlation between dam Inflow and stage discharge were analyzed. With the analysis results, the spec유c sediment rate of Soyanggang dam was estimated as 608 m3/km2/yr. It was similar to that of Soyanggang dam feasibility study and 1994's field surveys of the reservoir than that of 1983's field surveys. Because the sediment rating curves were derived under the low discharge conditions, It needs to be checked under the flood conditions. However, the suggested methods such as flowrate analysis and sediment estimation will be useful to the sediment studios In future. Key words . reservoir sediment, sediment yield rate, rating curve, flowrate analysis.
This numerical study aims to investigate the effect of cohesive sediment on turbulence structure due to density stratification. The transport model for cohesive sediment incorporated with flocculation model has been selected and calculates the concentration, fluid momentum, and turbulence. From the model results, it is known that suspension of sediment decreases turbulence intensity. It is also found that cohesive sediment has a relatively weak effect on turbulence damping compared to noncohesive sediment. The low settling velocity and more suspension of cohesive sediment are considered to be mechanisms of this behavior. Richardson number determined with results of this study quantitatively shows that cohesive sediment causes less stable density stratification condition and, as a result, the turbulence structure is less damped compared to the case of noncohesive sediment.
The objectives of this paper were to develop predictive equations for reservoir deposits and watershed sediment yields based on sediment survey data for irrigation reservoirs. Hundred reservoirs of various sizes, which have the surveyed data for sediment deposits, were chosen and fourteen watershed physiological and hydrological parameters were investigated. Correlationships between watershed parameters and sediment deposits were investigated and a best fit regression equation was derived, which may be applied for estimating reservoir sediment deposits. The sediment deposits were converted to the watershed sediment yields by applying the trap efficiencies and specific weights. The resulting sediment yields were related to watershed parameters and an empirical predictive equation was also proposed that may be used for rough estimations of watershed sediment yields.
The proximate composition and calorie of kidney bean sediment, amylogram, color, texture and sensory evaluation of Yanggaeng mixed with kidney bean sediment. Significant differences in the protein and fat contents were noticed among kidney bean sediment samples. The amylograms of sediment mixed with sugar and/or agar showed no peak and increase of viscosity compared with the control. When the Yanggaeng was prepared from the mixture of sediments of red bean and kidney bean, noticiable color changes were observed at 30% level of kidney bean sediment. Hardness and cohesiveness of Yanggaeng were increased but elasticity decreased as the proportion of kidney bean sediment increased. Sensory evaluation of Yanggaeng stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24 hr revealed that the product prepared from the mixture of red bean sediment (70%) and kidney bean sediment (30%) was not significantly different (p<0.05) compared with that from the 100% red bean sediment.
Sediment cell is renewable energy which produces electric energy using immanent ingredients or reducing power of marine sediment as natural resources. Also the cell has an advantage that environmental pollution can be reduced through conversion of organic and inorganic contaminants into inert matter with generation of the energy. In this paper, we compared characteristics of electricity generation of the two different sediment cells, and investigated the regeneration effect of the sediment cells with manipulation of the sediment such as mixing and re-positioning. The results showed that 14.1 $W/m^2$ of power was obtained with the aluminum electrode, and the mixing of the sediment could increase the power by 4 $W/m^2$ compared to the control. Also, mixing the sediment has kept electricity for 4 weeks at a relatively constant level, which implied 'fuel regeneration effect'. Meanwhile, the sediment cell was proved to be effective in reduction of COD, which was up to 28.6%.
