Objective: This paper studies the method of measuring whole-body vibration in the car and terms associated. Background: Human exposure to vibration can be broadly classified as localized and whole-body vibration. The whole-body vibration affects the entire body of the exposed person. It is mainly transmitted through the seat surfaces, backrests, and through the floor to an individual sitting in the vehicle. It can affect the comfort, performance, and health of individuals. Method: Human responses to whole-body vibration can be evaluated by two main standards such as ISO 2631 and BS 6841. The vibration is measured at 8 axes - three translations at feet, 3 translations of hip and two translations of back proposed by Griffin. B&K's sensors used in this study are the 3-axes translational acceleration sensor to measure the translational accelerations at the hip, back and foot. Results: The parameters associated with the whole-body vibration in the car are frequency weightings, frequency weighted root-mean-square, vibration dose values, maximum transient vibration value, seat effective amplitude transmissibility, ride values and ride comfort. Conclusion: Studied the evaluating methods of vibration exposure and ride comfort. Application: Evaluation of whole-body vibration in the car.

This paper deals with the experimental study of the turbulent flow fields by the hot-wire anemometer and the density fields by the Schlieren photography. In this study, the air mixed with CO$_{2}$ was used to visualize and to study this process and experimental parameters used were valve lift and valve shape. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The axial velocity of mixture flow passing a valve is changed greatly by valve seat angle and valve lift. Especially, it is changed more when the valve seat angles is 30.deg. and 45.deg. than when these are 60.deg. and 90.deg. 2) Experimental results by hot wire anemometer and Schlieren apparatus are very close together. The most satisfactory results are shown when the valve seat angle is 45.deg.

Impulsive excitation on vehicle produces shock-type vibration on the seat, which has major frequencies and damping ratios dependent on the characteristics of the suspension, the tire, the seat cushion and so on. The response of single degree of freedom model to a half-sine force input was considered as simple shock-type vibration signal. Quasi-apparent-mass for fifteen subjects was measured with the shock-type vibration generated on a rigid seat mounted on the simulator, so its nonlinearity was apparently found over 6.3 Hz according to the difference of magnitude of the shock.
Current fighter pilots, flying new generation aircrafts with high performance, are under severe stress during aerial combat maneuvering when they are exposed to high sustained +Gz(Head-to-foot) acceleration stress. Two major factor limiting performance during high sustaied +Gz acceleration stress are loss of vision-greyout or blackout, and loss of consciousness (LOC). These symptoms are believed to occur as a result of insuff- icient blood flow to the retina and the brain. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of high sustained +Gz stress under different seat back angle. The results. obtained by the biodvanmic computer simulations using the ATB(articulated total body) model, are represented with respect to three variables, such as HIC(head injury criterion) value, average G, and maximum G. The results demonstrate that the seat back angle(over $30^{\circ}C$) had a significant effect to decrease +Gz stress on the head segment and had no significant effect on HIC.

A comfort evaluation of car seat clothing has been proposed for high comforts interior seat clothing. Car seat covers have received wide spread attention due to their man-machine interface working. And then, it will be necessary for measurements on delicate basic mechanical-properties, which closely relate with human touch feeling of its materials. In this research, we have utilized $KES-FB^{(R)}$(Kawabata Evaluation System) series, $^ST300{(R)}$ analogue softness tester and friction tester for measurement a physical properties. In order to consider both kansei and physical properties on interior seat covers, we firstly have established subjective words of judgement for the seat covers. Secondly, related them to the objective measurement of physical properties. Each kansei-language has clearly defined as 'Softness', 'Elasticity', 'Volume' and 'Stickiness' for the adjectives of leather car seat covers. These technical terms have correlated to physical properties in other words, h (mm), bending moment ($gf^*$cm/cm), To-Tm (mm) and ${\mu}$. At this time, fuzzy logic has utilized to predict the value of kansei language through physical values. On the basis of this result, finally it is possible to predict quality index of car seat covers using neural networks technique. In short, we develop a quality evaluation system of car seat clothing combining four physical quantities with kansei engineering.

Among the various parts of automobile, automotive seat is the most fundamental item that ride comfort can be evaluated as the direct contact part with human body. Automotive seat must have the sufficient rigidity and strength at the same time with ride comfort. In this study, cushion frame and back frame at car seat are modelled with 3D. There are structural simulation analyses about 3 kinds of tests on torsion strength, vertical load strength and back frame strength. In the analysis result, the initial total deformation and the permanent total deformation has the maximum values of 5.4821 mm and 0.02539mm respectively at the torsion strength test of cushion frame. Total deformations at front and rear end parts of cushion frame become the values of 2.1159mm and 0.0606mm respectively at the test of vertical load strength of cushion frame. In case of more than this load, the maximum value of total deformation also becomes 3.1739mm. The maximum value of total deformation becomes 0.18634mm at 3 kinds of the strength tests on back frame. By the study result of no excessive deformation and no fracture cushion frame and back frame at automotive seat, the sufficient rigidity and strength to guarantee the safety of passenger can be verified.
The construction of the transportation history database system is to serve the scheduling and seat inventory controling. Recently, lots of countries have been faced with the advance era because of the new railway transportation system, like the high speed railway and/or magnetic levitation vehicle system. This can be reasonably translated as those of operators are willing to provide the more various and high quality schedule to the customer. Those operators these ideas make possible to forecast that scheduling process is going to be complicated more and more. The seat inventory control, so to speak Yield Management System(YMS), goes a long way to improve the total passenger revenue at the railway business. The YMS forecasts the number of the last reservation value(DCP# END) and recommends the optimal values on the seat sales. The history database system contains infra-data(ie, train, seat, sales) that will be the foundation of scheduling and seat inventory control application programs. The development of the application programs are reserved to the next step. The database system is installed on the pc platform (IBM compatible), using the DB2(RDBMS). And at next step, the platform and DBMS will be considered whether they can meet the users' requirement or not.
In the motorized retractor of the smart seat belt system, anti-overload clutch is a very important element to prevent the excessive belt tensional force. Anti-overload clutch is the essential device to protect drivers from chest damage by the excessive belt tension. It generates slipping motion under excessive webbing moment and the belt tensional force is limited below critical value. In this study, slipping mechanism in the antioverload clutch is investigated by analysis and experiment. On the prototype model, finite element analysis is performed to identify the slipping condition and to determine the critical load. Analysis result is compared with the experimental result and the validity of the analysis model is verified. The purpose of the study is to provide the analytical background for the systematic design of the anti-overload clutch mechanism.
The whiplash Injuries due to rear collision occur frequently. As result, in many countries, seat performance is being assessed and developed to improve head whiplash injury in rear collision of passenger car. This study compares whiplash assessment methods in each country. Using the DFSS(Design for Six Sigma) method, the correlation between influence parameters of head restraints and whiplash injury criteria is analyzed. Four control factors are used in this study. And total 11 whiplash injury criteria from NCAP(New Car Assessment Program) of Korea, Europe, China and IIHS(Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) of USA are used for output response. By the experimental design, L9 orthogonal coordinate system is configured and is tested by sled test equipment, twice. By using average assay value and ANOVA, the correlation between control factors and injury criteria has been comprehended. Optimization design of head restraint according the regional seat safety assessment was derived through the correlation.

This paper introduces experimental results of ride values assessed for domestic and overseas passenger cars. The experiment was executed about four vehicles, three Korean persons, and two roads by measuring human 12-axis. The results include the comparison of the component ride values, overall ride value, and seat effective amplitude transmissibility. The relative comparison of the ride values for different cars is shown in this paper, which may lead us to judge the current address of Korean ride quality-related technology.
