Damage potential of earthquake records for RC building stock

  • This study investigates ground motion parameters and their damage potential for building type structures. It focuses on low and mid-rise reinforced concrete buildings that are important portion of the existing building stock under seismic risk in many countries. Correlations of 19 parameters of 466 earthquake records with nonlinear displacement demands of 1056 Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) systems are investigated. Properties of SDOF systems are established to represent RC building construction practice. The correlation of damage and ground motion characteristics is examined with respect to number of story and site classes. Equations for average nonlinear displacement demands of considered RC buildings are given for some of the ground motion parameters. Velocity related parameters are generally found to have better results than the acceleration, displacement and frequency related ones. Correlation of the parameters may be expected to decrease with increasing intensity of seismic event. Velocity Spectrum Intensity and Peak Ground Velocity have been found to have the highest correlation values for almost all site classes and number of story groups. Common parameter of Peak Ground Acceleration has lower correlation with damage when compared to them and some other parameters like Effective Design Acceleration and Characteristic Intensity.

탄소성 단자유도 구조물에 대한 연성계수의 통계적 분석 (Statistical Study of Ductility Factors for Elastic Perfectly Plastic SDOF Systems)

  • 반응수정계수의 핵심구성요소인 연성계수에 대하여 통계적 분석을 수행하였다. 연성계수의 체계적인 산정을 위하여 총 1,860개의 지진기록을 수집하였다. 수집된 지진기록을 지반 전단파의 평균속도에 따라 4가지로 분류하고, 탄소성 이력거동을 가지는 단자유도 구조물에 대하여 비탄성 스펙트럼을 작성하였다. 작성된 비탄성 스펙트럼으로부터 연성계수를 구하고, 변위연성비, 토질조건, 규모 및 진앙거리가 연성계수에 미지는 영향을 분석하였다. 토질 조건별로 평균연성계수를 구하고, 산정된 연성계수의 산포도를 검토하기 위하여 변동계수를 산정하였다.

  • An efficient procedure using LQR method for determining optimal sliding surfaces appropriate for different controller types is provided. The parametric evaluation of the dynamic characteristics of sliding surfaces is peformed in terms of SMC controller performance of single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF) systems. The control force limit is considered in this procedure. Numerical simulations for multi-degree-of-freedom(MDOF) systems verify the effectiveness of proposed method.

Response transformation factors and hysteretic energy distribution of reinforced concrete braced frames

  • Most of existing buildings in Mexico City are made of reinforced concrete (RC), however, it has been shown that they are very susceptible to narrow-band long duration ground motions. In recent years, the use of dual systems composed by Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB) has increased due to its high energy dissipation capacity under reversible cyclical loads. Therefore, in this work the behavior of RC buildings with BRB is studied in order to know their performance, specifically, the energy distribution through height and response transformation factors between the RC and simplified systems are estimated. For this propose, seven RC buildings with different heights were designed according to the Mexico City Seismic Design Provisions (MCSDP), in addition, equivalent single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems were obtained. Incremental dynamic analyses on the buildings under 30 narrow-band ground motions in order to compute the relationship between normalized hysteretic energy, maximum inter-story drift and roof displacement demands were performed. The results shown that the entire structural frames participate in energy dissipation and their distribution is independent of the global ductility. The results let propose energy distribution equations through height. Finally, response transformation factors between the SDOF and multi degree of freedom (MDOF) systems were developed aimed to propose a new energy-based approach of BRB reinforced concrete buildings.

쿨롱마찰을 갖는 단자유도계의 자유진동응답에 관한 닫힌 해 (Closed-Form Solutions to Free Vibration Response of Single Degree of Freedom Systems with Coulomb Friction)

  • 본 연구는 쿨롱마찰을 갖는 동적시스템의 기초적인 연구로써 단자유도계의 자유진동응답에 대한 닫힌 해를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 쿨롱마찰을 포함하는 동적시스템의 운동방정식은 운동방향에 따른 마찰력의 부호변화로 인하여 비선형 미분방정식의 형태로 표현되기 때문에 닫힌 형태의 해를 얻기가 매우 어려운 특성이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위한 기존의 방법으로는 수치적분법에 의해 비선형 미분방정식을 직접 계산하거나 또는, 쿨롱마찰에 의한 감쇠효과를 등가점성감쇠로 치환한 선형 미분방정식을 이용하여 간접적으로 해를 구하는 방법이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법들은 수학적인 측면에서 닫힌 해를 제공하지 않는다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 운동방정식에서 반주기 구간마다 반전되는 마찰력의 부호변화를 고려하고, 이를 멱급수를 이용하여 전 구간으로 확장시킴으로써 쿨롱마찰을 고려한 단자유도계의 자유진동응답에 대해서 수학적으로 닫힌 해를 유도하였다. 또한, 마찰력의 크기가 강성에 의한 복원력의 크기보다 커지는 순간에 자유진동 운동이 정지하는 조건을 이용함으로써 주어진 초기조건에 대해서 예측되는 자유진동 반주기의 수와 운동이 정지하는 순간의 정확한 응답 값을 제안하였다

  • 연성 계수는 반응수정계수(R)의 핵심구성요소로서 내진설계에서 중요한 역할을 하는 계수이다. 본 연구에서의 연성계수()는 단자유도 구조물의 연성계수()에 다자유도 보정계수()를 곱하여 평가하였다. 단자유도 시스템의 연성계수는 지진하중을 받는 단자유도 구조물의 변위 연성요구도와 주기에 따른 비선형 동적해석으로부터 산정하였다. 다자유도 시스템의 영향을 고려하기 위한 다자유도 보정계수()는 기존의 연구에 근거하여 제시하였다. 철골 연성 모멘트 골조의 연성계수를 평가하기 위하여, 구조물의 층수, 골조시스템(외곽골조, 분배골조), 붕괴 메카니즘(강-기둥 약-보, 약-기둥 강-보), 토질조건 및 지진구역을 변수로 하여 총 108개의 예제 구조물을 설계하였다. 구조물의 층수, 붕괴 메카니즘 및 토질조건은 연성계수에 큰 영향을 미치는 반면, 골조 시스템 및 지진구역은 연성계수에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Combination rules and critical seismic response of steel buildings modeled as complex MDOF systems

  • The Maximum seismic responses of steel buildings with perimeter moment resisting frames (MRF), modeled as complex MDOF systems, are estimated for several incidence angles of the horizontal components and the critical one is identified. The accuracy of the existing rules to combine the effects of the individual components is also studied. Two and three components are considered. The critical response does not occur for principal components and the corresponding incidence angle varies from one earthquake to another. The critical response can be estimated as 1.40 and 1.10 times that of the principal components, for axial load and interstory shears, respectively. The rules underestimate the axial load but reasonably overestimate the shears. The rules are not always inaccurate in the estimation of the combined response for correlated components. On the other hand, totally uncorrelated (principal) components are not always related to an accurate estimation. The correlation of the individual effects (${\rho}$) may be significant, even for principal components. The rules are not always associated to an inaccurate estimation for large values of ${\rho}$, and small values of ${\rho}$ are not always related to an accurate estimation. Only for perfectly uncorrelated harmonic excitations and elastic analysis of SDOF systems, the individual effects of the components are uncorrelated and the rules accurately estimate the combined response. The degree of correlation of the components, the type of structural system, the response parameter under consideration, the location of the structural member and the level of structural deformation must be considered while estimating the level of underestimation or overestimation.

Unscented Kalman Filter를 이용한 비선형 동적 구조계의 시간영역 규명기법 (Time Domain Identification of nonlinear Structural Dynamic Systems Using Unscented Kalman Filter)

  • In this study, recently developed unscented Kalman filter (UKF) technique is studied for identification of nonlinear structural dynamic systems as an alternative to the extended Kalman filter (EKF). The EKF, which was originally developed as a state estimator for nonlinear systems, has been frequently employed for parameter identification by introducing the state vector augmented with the unknown parameters to be identified. However, the EKF has several drawbacks such as biased estimations and erroneous estimations especially for highly nonlinear dynamic systems due to its crude linearization scheme. To overcome the weak points of the EKF, the UKF was recently developed as a state estimator. Numerical simulation studies have been carried out on nonlinear SDOF system and nonlinear MDOF system. The results from a series of numerical simulations indicate that the UKF is superior to the EKF in the system identification of nonlinear dynamic systems especially highly nonlinear systems.

이선형 단자유도 감쇠시스템의 비탄성변위비 (Inelastic Displacement Ratio for SDOF Bilinear and Damping Systems)

  • NEHRP 지반조건 B,C,D에서 이선형 단자유도 감쇠시스템의 지반조건, 후탄성기울기, 감쇠비, 항복강도 감소계수, 고유 주기 등의 변화가 비탄성변위비에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 기존의 제안식은 변위일정 법칙을 따라 일정주기 이상에서 비탄성 변위비를 과대평가하게 된다. 또한 기존식은 5%이상의 감쇠비에 대하여만 제안되었다. 본 연구는 후탄성기울기, 감쇠비 20% 이하의 이선형 시스템의 비탄성 변위비의 평균과 편차를 제안하였고 범용적으로 사용할 수 있음을 보였다. 제안식을 사용하여 비탄성 변위비의 확률적 분포를 계산하여 구조물의 성능기반설계에 이용할 수 있다.
