  • 1. Objectives When we give Jowiseungcheong-tang to Taeumin patients, analyzing a change of their autonomic nervous system. It is measured by the heart rate variability(HRV) analyzer. 2. Methods We give Jowiseungcheong-tang to ten Taeumin patients for three days and examine the HRV at first time and three days later. 3. Results and Conclusions We compared two HRV results. The value of RRNN(average of normal RR intervals), SDNN(the standard deviation of all normal RR intervals), RMSSD(the root mean square of successive differences between the normal heart beats) have a downward tendency. Norm HF(normalized high frequency power) have a upward tendency. norm LF (normalized low frequency power) and LHR(LF/HF ratio) have a downward tendency. It means hypofunction of autonomic nervous system. But all results are not significant. We think that restudy is needed with more patients and longer periods afterward.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the autonomic nervous system activity in various ambient temperature situation. To evaluate autonomic function, we use the time domain analysis of heart rate variability. Electrocardiogram was recorded to derive heart rate variability in 3 different temperature room which temperature is controlled in 18℃(low), 25℃ (mid) and 38℃(high), respectively. Totally 22 subjects were participated in the experiment. The result shows that the time-domain variables such as AVNN, SDNN, SDSD, RMSSD, NN50, pNN50, NN20 and pNN20 show the significant difference between low and high temperature (p<0.01). However, these variables has no significance (p>0.05) between mid and high except on AVNN, RMSSD and pNN20. AVNN, RMSSD shows the highest significance (p<0.001) according to the various temperature environment.

  • This study aims to show the change of Heart Rate Variability(HRV) and Pulse wave velocity(PWV) on menstruation in women at college. Heart Rate Variability(HRV) and Pulse wave velocity(PWV) of 122 women at college were measured at their menstruation and ordinary period. SDNN, RMSSD, SDSD, HRV Index(%), stress resistance and cardiac activity were significantly higher at their menstruation than ordinary period, but Total Power and pNN50(%) were opposite. The automatic nervous system balance and physical stress were decreased in groups without dysmenorrhea than with one. PWV(E-R) and PWV(E-L) were much higher at menstruation than ordinary period. PTT(F-R) and PTT(F-L) were decreased in groups without dysmenorrhea than with severe one. We demonstrated that menstruation can effect on Heart Rate Variability and Pulse wave velocity and dysmenorrhea can cause the imbalance of autonomic nervous system.

  • Heart Rate Variability(HRV) is a parameter that represents monitoring variability of time intervals between R-peak in electrocardiography. HRV serves to various applications, such as indices of autonomic functions, prediction of cardiac sudden death, assessment of stress and emotional, etc. However, as measuring R-peak in ECG needs at least 3-electrodes, and it is inconvenient for end users. In this paper, we suggested the modified laplacian electrodes for measuring HRV at one-point, which are producted by MEMS fabrication and have the two circular electrodes on the pad. For optimal position and direction, we performed an experiment that compared with pearson correlation coefficient and the amplitude of signals, between standard lead II and proposed electrodes. We analyzed the HRV parameters, such as standard deviation of the NN interval(SDNN), high frequency(HF), low frequency(LF), LF/HF ratio. The result showed that the average correlation coefficient and amplitude are 0.967 and 0.685 mVpp at the position 2. The coeffiecient correlation between the standard HRV and proposed electrode-HRV is 0.999

  • Purpose: During postpartum period, many women complain multiple pain, sweating, cold hypersensitivity, abdominal pain, hot flush and so on. We called the postpartum disease as San Hu Pung. The San Hu Pung could related with dysautonomia. So we studied the character of the postpartum disease patients as heart rate variability(H.R.V) Methods: The subjects were 63 women who visited Kangnam Kyunghee hospital for postpartum management from February 2006 to June 2007. From history taking, 42 symptomatic women was divided at the postpartum disease group, 21 asymptomatic women was divided at the control group. All women was measured HRV, we studied the difference of HRV between two group. Results: Compared with the control group, SDNN of the disease group was significant low. TP, LF and HF of the disease group were significantly lower than the control group. Conclusion: The difference of HRV between the disease group and the control group was significant. The results of HRV on the disease group could mean that San hu pung is related dysautonomia. The more studies to diagnose San hu pung would be needed.

  • Objectives: Although the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is thought to play an important role in treatment of obesity, no study has been conducted to investigate acupuncture's effects on this aspect of the ANS. This study aimed to describe the effects of acupuncture in the ANS by means of heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Methods: A total of 46 obese women aged from 21 to 54 with body mass index ranging from 25.1 to $39.3kg/m^2$ were recruited and randomized into both the real acupuncture group (n=23) and sham acupuncture group (n=23). A total of 3 instances of HRV analysis were conducted before, during, and after treatment. Statistically significant differences between time and groups were analyzed using repeated measure analysis of variance. Results: All parameters of time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis except for the square root of the mean squared differences of successive normal sinus intervals (RMSSD) and very low frequency (VLF) showed significant differences between times. The mean of all R-R intervals (mean RR) showed significant level of interaction between time and group. Between groups, time domain analysis of standard deviation of the normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN), RMSSD and frequency domain analysis of total power (TP) and high frequency (HF) showed significant differences. Conclusions: The real acupuncture group showed deactivation of parasympathetic function and relative increase of sympathetic activity in obese subjects. Further studies are necessary to uncover the mechanisms of acupuncture in obesity treatment.

  • Purpose: Oligomenorrhea is clinically important because it can be progressed to amenorrhea. The purpose of this study is to analyse Autonomic Nerve Function of some oligomenorrheic patients by using HRV(Heart Rate Variability). Methods: We studied 35 patients visiting OO Oriental Hospital from 1st November 2006 to 31th May 2007. One woman who takes antidepressant is excluded. 17 oligomenorrheic group and 17 normal menstrual cycle group were compared with HRV. The SPSS 12.0 for windows was used to analyze the data and Mann Whitney U-test were used to verify the results. Results: Mean PR, LF norm, LF/HF ratio of oligimenorrheic group are higher than normal menstrual cycle group. But there is no statistically significance. SDNN, RMS-SD, ln TP, ln VLF, ln LF, ln HF, HF norm of oligimenorrheic group are lower than normal menstrual cycle group. But there is no statistically significance. Conclusion: It can be suggested that oligomenorrhea can be related to increased activities of sympathetic nerve and decreased activities of general autonomic nerve function. But, we need study with more subjects for settling this.
