  • Software-Defined Networking, called SDN is a next-generation network technology that allows a centralized SDN controller to manage multiple switches and easily apply any network requirements, unlike traditional network devices. However, as the research on SDN has progressed rapidly in recent years, the security of SDN is also considered to be important. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the major security problems in SDN and introduce a methodology to apply blockchain technology to SDN as a solution to solve them.

  • SDN is one of the most actively researched topics to solve traffic problems in communication. SDN implements multiple networks in a single physical network by virtualizing network resources through an advanced API. Network Function Virtualized (NFV) distributes network functions from hardware using software instant, virtualization technology to VNF. These features make network management easier and improve performance by virtualizing IP, routers, and so on. In this paper, we propose a method to control the traffic and provide the distributed controller effect of SDN through SDN distribution in the virtualized industrial network. It is expected that SDN distribution will be able to manage traffic more efficiently when using the proposed scheme.

  • SDN(Softeware Defined Networking) has emerged to address the rapidly growing demand for cloud computing and to support network virtualization services. Therefor many companies and organizations have taken SDN as a next-generation network technology. However, unlike the wired network where the SDN is originally designed, the SDN in the wireless network has a restriction that it can not provide the mobility of the node. In this paper, we extended existing openflow protocol of SDN and developed SDN-based network platform, which enables the SDN controller to manage the radio resources of its network and support the mobility of the nodes. The mobility support function of this paper has the advantage that a node in the network can move using its two or more wireless interfaces by using the radio resource management function of the SDN controller. In order to test the functions implemented in this paper, we measured parameters related to various transmission performance according to various mobile experiments, and compared parameters related to performance using one wireless interface and two interfaces. The SDN-based network platform proposed in this paper is expected to be able to monitor the resources of wireless networks and support the mobility of nodes in the SDN environment.

  • Multicast communication can effectively reduce network resources consumption in contrast with unicast. With the advent of SDN, current researches on multicast traffic are mainly conducted in the SDN scenario, thus to mitigate the problems of IP multicast such as the unavoidable difficulty in traffic engineering and high security risk. However, migration to SDN cannot be achieved in one step, hybrid SDN emerges as a transitional networking form for ISP network. In hybrid SDN, for acquiring similar TE and security performance as in SDN multicast, we redirect every multicast traffic to an appropriate SDN node before reaching the destinations of the multicast group, thus to build up a core-based multicast tree substantially which is first introduced in CBT. Based on the core SDN node, it is possible to realize dynamic control over the routing paths to benefit traffic engineering (TE), while multicast traffic manageability can also be obtained, e.g., access control and middlebox-supported network services. On top of that, multiple core-based multicast trees are constructed for each multicast group by fully taking advantage of the routing flexibility of SDN nodes, in order to further enhance the TE performance. The multicast routing and splitting (MRS) algorithm is proposed whereby we jointly and efficiently determine an appropriate core SDN node for each group, as well as optimizing the traffic splitting fractions for the corresponding multiple core-based trees to minimize the maximum link utilization. We conduct simulations with different SDN deployment rate in real network topologies. The results indicate that, when 40% of the SDN switches are deployed in HSDN as well as calculating 2 trees for each group, HSDN multicast adopting MRS algorithm can obtain a comparable TE performance to SDN multicast.

  • An important research challenge about the traditional Internet environment is to enable open networking architecture on which end users are able to innovate the Internet based on the technologies of network programmability, virtualization, and federation. The SDN (Software Defined Network) technology that includes OpenFlow protocol specifications, is suggested as a major driver for the open networking architecture, and is closely coupled with the classical Internet (non-SDN). Therefore, it is very important to keep the integrated SDN and non-SDN network infrastructure reliable from the view point of network operators and engineers. Under this background, this paper proposes an operations and management framework for the combined software defined network environment across not only a single-domain network, but also multi-domain networks. The suggested framework is designed to allow SDN controllers and DvNOC systems to interact with each other to achieve sustainable end-to-end user-oriented SDN and non-SDN integrated network environment. Plus, the proposed scheme is designed to apply enhanced functionalities on DvNOC to support four major network failure scenarios over the combined network infrastructure, mainly derived from SDN controllers, SDN devices, and the connected network paths.

  • SDN (Software Defined Networking) is an emerging networking system which differs from traditional network architecture. Moreover SDN has many advantages and special capabilities that traditional networks do not have. SDN and P4 are related in that they can be combined to create more advanced and intelligent networking systems. Additionally, Al has emerged as a transformative force in various fields, including SDN. By applying Al and P4 to SDN, network administrators can leverage the power of them to make impact on SDN security. We offer an overview of recent trend of SDN security integrating P4 a nd Al in this study.

  • Software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged as a promising technology for network programmability and experiments. In this work, we focus on virtual network embedding in multiple controllers SDN network. In SDN virtualization environment, virtual SDN networks (vSDNs) operate on the shared substrate network and managed by their each controller, the placement and load of controllers affect vSDN embedding process. We consider controller placement, vSDN embedding, controller adjustment as a joint problem, together considering different quality of service (QoS) requirement for users, formulate the problem into mathematical models to minimize the average time delay of control paths, the load imbalance degree of controllers and embedding cost. We propose a heuristic method which places controllers and partitions control domains according to substrate SDN network, embeds different QoS constraint vSDN requests by corresponding algorithms, and migrates switches between control domains to realize load balance of controllers. The simulation results show that the proposed method can satisfy different QoS requirement of tenants, keep load balance between controllers, and work well in the acceptance ratio and revenue to cost ratio for vSDN embedding.

  • Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which separates the control plane from the data plane and manages data planes in a centralized way, is now considered as a future networking technology, and many researchers and practitioners have dived into this area to devise new network applications, such new routing methods. Likewise, network security applications could be redesigned with SDN, and some pioneers have proposed several interesting network security applications with SDN. However, most approaches have just reimplemented some well-known network security applications, although SDN provides many interesting features, They didn't effectively use them. To investigate if we can use SDN in realizing sophisticated network security applications, we have designed and implemented an advanced network security application, Reflectornet, which redirects malicious or suspicious network trials to other security monitoring points (e.g., honeypot). In addition, we have tested its performance and practicability in diverse angles. Our findings and some insights will encourage other researchers to design better or intelligent network security applications with SDN.
