  • 본 논문에서는 기존 4H-SiC SJ UMOSFET 구조의 p-pillar을 기존 UMOSFET의 shielding 영역 아래로 배치시키는 SC-SJ(Shielding Connected-Super Junction) UMOSFET 구조를 제안한다. 제안한 SC-SJ UMOSFET의 경우 p-pillar와 shielding 영역이 공존하여 산화막에서 전계에 의한 항복이 발생하지 않도록 하며, 이는 pillar의 도핑 농도 상승을 가능하게 한다. 결과적으로 온저항을 낮춤으로서 소자의 정적 특성을 개선한다. Sentaurus TCAD 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존 구조와 제안한 구조의 정적 특성을 비교, 분석하였다. 제안한 SC-SJ UMOSFET은 기존 구조에 비해 항복전압의 변화 없이 50% 감소된 온저항을 얻을 수 있다.

Probabilistic seismic performance assessment of self-centering prestressed concrete frames with web friction devices

  • A novel post-tensioned self-centering (SC) concrete beam-column connection with web friction devices has been proposed for concrete moment-resisting frames. This paper presents a probabilistic performance evaluation procedure to evaluate the performance of the self-centering concrete frame with the proposed post-tensioned beam-column connections. Two performance limit states, i.e., immediate occupancy (IO) and repairable (RE) limit states, are defined based on peak and residual story drift ratios. Statistical analyses of seismic demands revealed that the dispersion of residual drifts is larger than that of peak drifts. Due to self-centering feature of post-tensioning connections, the SC frame was found to have high probabilities to be recentered under the design basis earthquake (DBE) and maximum considered earthquake (MCE) ground motions. Seismic risk analysis was performed to determine the annual (50-year) probability of exceedance for IO and RE performance limit states, and the results revealed that the design objectives of the SC frame would be met under the proposed performance-based design approach.

Numerical study on steel plate-concrete composite walls subjected to projectile impacts

  • Local responses of steel plate-concrete composite (SC) walls under impact loads are typically evaluated using design equations available in the AISC N690s1-15. These equations enable design of impact-resistant SC walls, but some essential parts such as the effects of wall size and shear reinforcement ratio have not been addressed. Also, since they were developed for design basis events, improved equations are required for accurate prediction of the impact behaviors of SC walls for beyond design basis impact evaluation. This paper presents a numerical study to construct a robust numerical model of SC walls subjected to impact loads to reasonably predict the SC-wall impact behavior, to evaluate the findings observed from the impact tests including the effects of the key design parameters, and to assess the actual responses of full-scale SC walls. The numerical calculations are validated using intermediate-scale impact tests performed previously. The influences of the fracture energy of concrete and the conservative aspects of the current design equations are discussed carefully. Recommendations are made for design practice.

The Effect of Series and Shunt Redundancy on Power Semiconductor Reliability

  • In different industrial and mission oriented applications, redundant or standby semiconductor systems can be implemented to improve the reliability of power electronics equipment. The proper structure for implementation can be one of the redundant or standby structures for series or parallel switches. This selection is determined according to the type and failure rate of the fault. In this paper, the reliability and the mean time to failure (MTTF) for each of the series and parallel configurations in two redundant and standby structures of semiconductor switches have been studied based on different failure rates. The Markov model is used for reliability and MTTF equation acquisitions. According to the different values for the reliability of the series and parallel structures during SC and OC faults, a comprehensive comparison between each of the series and parallel structures for different failure rates will be made. According to the type of fault and the structure of the switches, the reliability of the switches in the redundant structure is higher than that in the other structures. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed series and parallel structures of switches during SC and OC faults, results in an improvement in the reliability of the boost dc/dc converter. These studies aid in choosing a configuration to improve the reliability of power electronics equipment depending on the specifications of the implemented devices.

다중강전자 상태를 가진 육방정계물질의 전자구조 계산 (The Electronic Structure Calculations for Hexagonal Multiferroic Materials)

  • 다중강전자 상태의 $YMnO_3,\;ScMnO_3$의 전자구조와 자기구조를 국소스핀밀도근사(LSDA)를 이용하여 계산하였다. 강자성 상태이며 강유전 상태의 전자구조는 육방정계 구조로 인하여 Mn 3d 에너지띠가 분리되어 띠틈을 나타내었다. 이러한 에너지 띠틈과 작은 Y, Sc 이온의 반경으로 인하여 $YMnO_3,\;ScMnO_3$는 반강자성 강유전적 성질을 가지는 다중강전자 구조를 가지고 있음을 보았다. 또한 총에너지 계산을 통하여 반강자성, 강유전 상태가 가장 안정됨이 실험과 일치하였다.

Presentation of a Novel E-Core Transverse-Flux Permanent Magnet Linear Motor and Its Magnetic Field Analysis Based on Schwarz-Christoffel Mapping Method

  • In order to overcome the manufacturing difficulty of the transverse-flux permanent magnet linear motor (TFPMLM) and enhance its performance much better, a novel TFPMLM with E-core and 3 dimension (3D) magnetic structures is proposed in this paper. Firstly, its basic structure and operating principle are presented. Then the equivalent 2D configuration of the TFPMLM is transformed, so that the Schwarz-Christoffel (SC) mapping method can be used to analyze the motor. Furthermore, the air gap flux density distribution is solved by SC mapping method, based on which, the EMF waveform, no-load cogging force waveform and load force waveform are obtained. Finally, the prototyped TLPMLM is manufactured and the results are obtained from the experiment and 3D FEM, respectively, which are used to compare with those from SC mapping method.

Development of a self-centering tension-only brace for seismic protection of frame structures

  • This study develops and numerically verifies an innovative seismically resilient bracing system. The proposed self-centering tension-only brace (SC-TOB) is composed of a tensioning system to provide a self-centering response, a frictional device for energy dissipation, and a high-strength steel cable as a bracing element. It is considered to be an improvement over the traditional self-centering braces in terms of lightness, high bearing capacity, load relief, and double-elongation capacity. In this paper, the mechanics of the system are first described. Governing equations deduced from the developed analytical model to predict the behavior of the system are then provided. The results from a finite element validation confirm that the SC-TOB performs as analytically predicted. Key parameters including the activation displacement and load, the self-centering parameter, and equivalent viscous damping are investigated, and their influences on the system behavior are discussed. Finally, a design procedure considering controlled softening behavior is developed and illustrated through a design example.

상대 밀도에 따른 금속 적층 제조 격자 구조체의 기계적 특성 (Mechanical Properties of Metallic Additive Manufactured Lattice Structures according to Relative Density)

  • 격자 구조체는 강도 및 강성, 초경량 및 에너지 흡수 능력 등의 우수성을 가지고 있어서 전방위 산업에서 주목을 받고 있으나, 다양한 장점에도 불구하고 복잡한 형상에 따른 제조 공정의 어려움으로, 현재까지 광범위한 상용화 및 사용은 제한되고 있다. 한편 적층 제조는 전통적인 제조 방법으로는 불가능한 복잡한 기하학적 형상 제조가 가능한 기술로써, 격자 구조체 제조를 위한 최적 기술로 주목을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 좌표 방법으로 단위 셀을 형성하고, 단위셀의 바운더리 박스 크기 및 스트럿 반경에 따른 상대 밀도의 관계식을 도출하였다. 본 연구에서는 Simple Cubic(SC), Body-Centered Cubic(BCC) 및 Face-Centered Cubic(FCC)을 모델링 소프트웨어를 사용하여 상대 밀도 맞춤형 구조체를 설계하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 상대 밀도 산출식 정확도는 SC, BCC 및 FCC에서 98.3 %, 98.6 % 및 96.2%의 신뢰성을 확보하였다. 격자 구조체를 대상으로 시뮬레이션 수행 결과, 동일한 셀 배열 조건에서는 상대 밀도가 커짐에 따라 항복 하중이 커지고, 동일 배열 조건에서는 SC, BCC, FCC 순으로 압축 항복 하중이 작아지는 결과가 나타났다. 최종적으로 20 mm × 20 mm × 20 mm 크기의 구조체는 SC 단위 셀을 3×3×3 배열로 구성하는 것이 압축 하중에 대한 구조적 최적화가 가능한 것으로 나타났다.

  • In this research, the effect of Sc on the micro structure and mechanical properties of Al-20Si alloy powders and their extruded bar was investigated. The Al-20wt%Si and Al-20wt%Si-0.6wr%Sc powders were produced by gas atomization. The micro structures of the alloy powders and extrude was examined by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The alloy powders were subsequently canned, degassed and extruded in order to produce the alloy bulk. It was found that the micro structure of the Al-20Si alloy powder was refined and the mechanical properties was significantly improved by the addition of 0.6Sc.

Cu-based delafossite 의 band structures 분석

  • 본 연구에서는 제 1원리 계산을 기반으로 대표적인 p-type TCO 중 하나인 Cu-based delafossite ($CuMO_2$, M=Al, Ga, In, Sc, Y) 의 band structure 및 그에 따른 경향성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 13족에 속하는 M (Al, Ga, In)은 valence band maximum (VBM)에서 2개의 flat한 line이 나타났고, 3족에 속하는 M (Sc, Y)는 Z point에서도 VBM과 비슷한 값이 나타났다.
