  • This study examined the removal efficiency of the nitrogen and phosphorus in order to compensate for the combined process of ATAD(Autothermal Thermophilic Aaerobic Digestion) and EGSB(Expended Granular Sludge Bed), which are treatment methods for livestock wastewater, by introducing SBR(Sequencing Batch Reactor) as post-treatment process. The analysis on the treatment efficiency of each operation mode showed that, in the case of T-N, the treatment efficiency were 67.1% and 74.2% for Run-1 and Run-2, respectively, and in the case of T-P, the values were 71.2 and 74.1, respectively, which are indicating that the treatment efficacy is higher in the condition of Run-1, in which the time period of Anoxic and Aerobic segments were increased. In addition, the result of analyzing removal characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus by Influx load showed that removal efficiency of nitrogen was better in the case of high influx load than in the case of low influx load. Regardless of Influx load, phosphorus showed constant influx concentration, so that removal efficiency of phosphorus was influenced littler by Influx load than that of nitrogen. This study also fed methanol as an external carbon source and performed experiment to induce denitrification under anoxic condition by using nitrate among nitrogen compounds of SBR reactor, and the results showed that intermittent feeding was more effective in Nitrogen Removal than composite feeding.

  • Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) composites, incorporated with graphene, molybdenum disulfide and their hybrid in different filling ratio, were fabricated by a two roll-mill. The dispersion states of all the samples' matrix were employed by carbon black dispersion tester. The curing properties of the pre-vulcanized rubber composites were investigated, after molding by heating press machine, the tensile strength, storage modulus, friction coefficient, the swelling property had also been tested according to ASTM. The composite G1M10 (filling with 1 phr graphene and 10 phr molybdenum) showed the best mechanical properties and viscoelastic properties in this research with a better filler dispersion state and more compact matrix structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate reinforced effect between silica treated by coupling agents and rubber matrix under the configuration chemical bonds, and the effect of silica particles coated by organic polymers using aluminum chloride as the catalyst. In vulcanization characteristies were tested by Curastometer. The M-series vulcanizates were reached to the fastest optimum cure $time(t_{90})$ and R-series vulcanizates with the same formula had the shorted optimum cure times. Tensile characteristics measuring with a tensile tester revealed that the M-series vulcanizate was the best in the physical properties, such as tensile strength. In 100% modulus, however, the S-series vulcanizates appeared to be better than the other vulcanizates. Also, hardness showed the following order : S-series>R-series>M-series with the order of elongation R-series>M-series>S-series. In SEM test, shapes of chemical treated silicas were observed. The dispersion of filler in the SBR composite appeard uniformly. In RDS test for the dynamic characteristics, G' indicates that S-3 shows the highest value with the next order M-3>R-3, and the order of damping values are as followe: M-3>M-3>R-3.

  • The application of powerful ultrasound to rubber recycling is a very recent field of study. An ultrasonic field creates high frequency extension-contraction stresses by acoustic cavitation. The breakdown of rubber network occurs primarily around pulsating cavities due to the highest level of strain produced by high-power ultrasound. Stronger reductions of cross-link density were observed at a higher pressure, indicating an important role of pressure during ultrasonic recycling. Visible bubbles were observed during ultrasonic treatment as a proof of acoustic cavitation. Shearing effect has a significant influence on improving the efficiency of ultrasonic treatment. After the ultrasonic treatment, the cross-link densities of NR/SBR blends were lower than those of NR and SBR due to the reduced degree of unsaturation and chemical reactions. Carbon black fillers increase the probability of bond scission during ultrasonic treatment, due to the restricted mobility. The mechanical properties of ground tire rubber (GRT)/HDPE blends were improved by ultrasonic treatment and dynamic revulcanization. Ultrasonic treatment of GRT in the presence of HDPE matrix was found to give better mechanical properties due to the chemical reactions between rubber and plastic phases.

  • In this work, the reinforcing action of carbon blacks in rubber was investigated by SEM and UTM measurements which at low a testing of the surface and mechanical properties. In order to gain an insight into the different properties between carbon blacks before and after methane/propane decomposition, various composites were prepared with SBR synthetic rubber and different carbon blacks with four loading ratios. The results were analyzed with the aim of finding suitable conditions for decomposition reaction to cut down the net cost for hydrogen production through hydrocarbon decomposition.

  • The tensile properties of short nylon6 fiber reinforced NR and SBR have been investigated as functions of fiber aspect ratio(AR), diameter ratio(DR), interphase condition, and fiber content. The tensile strength increased with increasing fiber AR(20 min.) and good interphase conditions. The short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=20 min.) reinforced SBR did not show the dilution effect for all interrhase conditions. And the short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=20min.) reinforced NR did not show the dilution effect except for the no-coating. The tensile moduli were significantly improved due to fiber AR. fiber content, and good interphase at same DR. The better interphase condition showed the higher pull-out force at same DR. Also, the stress analysis near the fiber end carried out using axisymmetric FEA to be convinced of the reinforcing mechanism. It is found that the fiber AR, interphase and DR have an important effect on tensile properties.

  • With the improvements in computer technologies, utilization of image processing techniques has increased in many areas (such as medicine, defence industry, other industries etc.) Many different image processing techniques are used for surface analysis, detection of manufacturing defects, and determination of physical and mechanical characteristics of composite materials. In this study, cementitious composites were obtained by addition of Grounded Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag (GGBFS), Styrene Butadiene polymer (SBR), and Grounded Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag and Styrene Butadiene polymer together (GGBFS+SBR). Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) beads were added to these cementitious composites in different ratios (20%, 40% and 60%). The mechanical and physical characteristics of the composites were determined, and homogeneity indexes of the composites were determined by image processing techniques to determine EPS distribution forms in them. Physical and mechanical characteristics of the produced samples were obtained by applying consistency, density, water absorption, compressive strength (7 and 28 days), flexural strength (7 and 28 days) and tensile splitting strength (7 and 28 days) tests on them. Also, visual examination by using digital microscope, and image analysis by using image processing techniques with open source coded ImageJ program were performed. As a result of the study, it is determined that GGBFS and SBR addition strengthens the adhesion sites formed as it increases the adhesion power of the mixture and helps to get rid of the segregation problem caused by EPS. As a result of the image processing analysis it is demonstrated that GGBFS and SBR addition has positive contribution on homogeneity index.

  • This research was conducted to evaluate the adhesion in tension of the polymer mortars for cement concrete repair. Various polymer types, binder ratios, and wet/dry conditions of the surface were considered in this study. Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and ethylen vinyl acetate (EVA) used for polymer cement mortars. Epoxy resin (EP), and unsaturated polyester resin (UP) were used for polymer mertars. Adhesion in tension for the dry condition of the substrate surface was higher than that for the wet condition of the substrate surface under the same binder ratio. Therefore, in repairing concrete, the dry surface condition was effective on adhesion.

  • The adhesion properties of polymer cement mortars for cement concrete repair were evaluated with respect to polymer-cement ratios and the surface conditions of cement concrete substrate. Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) was used as an additive for polymer cement mortars. The adhesion strength of cement mortar was smaller than that of polymer cement mortar. The adhesion strengths to the dry surfaces of substrate were larger than those to the wet surfaces, indicating that the dryness of substrate increased the adhesion strength in repairing concrete structures.

  • The properties of the rubber composites containing a silane and silica were evaluated by changing the mixing time and temperature, in order to find the optimum mixing conditions. Characteristics of the compounds were evaluated after mixing at $120^{\circ}C$, $140^{\circ}C$, and $160^{\circ}C$ with various mixing time. With increasing of mixing time, mooney viscosity decreased while the bound rubber contents of the compounds increased. Viscosity rise by increased mixing time was bigger at low temperature and the higher the mixing temperature the faster in the formation of bound rubber. With lower mixing temperature of $120^{\circ}C$, cross-linking rate was almost constant. Dynamic viscoelastic properties and dispersity of the compound showed that dispersion of ingredients and reaction was not sufficient with the mixing time of less than 10min. On the contrary, with high temperature, it was obvious that good dynamic and physical properties could be obtained due to sufficient coupling reaction, however it was thought this high temperature is not optimum because of sensitive cross-linking rate and physical properties and excessive formation of bound rubber. Consequently, it was confirmed that the mixing condition of 10min at $140^{\circ}C$ was optimum for the silane coupling reaction and dispersion of functionalized S-SBR containing silica and silane.
