Analysis of the Radiation Patterns of Satellite SAR System with Active-Transponder (능동전파반사기를 이용한 위성 SAR 시스템 방사 패턴 분석)

  • Measurement and analysis results of the extracted radiation-patterns from the field-experiments which were conducted to acquire the generic technology for calibration and validation of the satellite SAR system(Synthetic Aperture Radar) are presented in this study. Prototype of active transponder is adjustable within maximum 63.1 dBsm of RCS (Radar Cross Section) and includes the receiving-function with external receiver. To increase an accuracy of these field experiments, we repetitively measured satellite SAR systems of the same operating mode(i.e., COSMO-SkyMed No. 2 & 3, hh-pol., strip-map himage mode, 3 m resolution). Then, the reliability of experimental results was cross-checked through analysis of the RCS of active transponder on SAR image. The property of azimuth radiation patterns of satellite SAR system extracted from them has $0.352^{\circ}$ of HPBW(half-power beamwidth), $0.691^{\circ}$ of FNBW(first-null beamwidth), and 11.17 dB of PSLR(peak to side lobe ratio), respectively.

  • In this study, we describe the technique for deriving a digital elevation model (DEM) from a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) stereo image pair and apply it to an image pair over "Kwanak-san" in Seoul, Korea. This paper contains brief discussion of the use of stereo SAR to derive topographic data, description of the overall structure of the stereo SAR processing system, description of the site and SAR data used for the evaluation and the source of validation data, results of the stereo SAR processing, analysis and evaluation of their accuracy against map data, and finally summarizes the main highlights of the method used, comments and recommendations on its future implementation.

SAR Analysis on the Coaxial-Slot Antenna for Hyperthermia (Hyperthermia용 Coaxial-Slot 안테나의 SAR 분석)

  • Performance of the applicator for hyperthermia is determined by both the degree of impedance matching and specific absorption rate(SAR) distribution in the surrounding tissue. In this paper, the coaxial-slot antenna using staircasing approximation in the FDTD is analyzed and the coaxial-slot antenna for the hyperthermia improving heating characteristics is designed. The SAR of the coaxial-slot antenna approximated to staircasing and square model is analyzed, and the SAR of staircasing model is compared with Saito's SAR measurement and square model. As a result, the SAR of proposed model exhibited agreement with the Saito's measurement of square model. Ig averaged SAR on the liver caused by proposed antenna in this paper is 195 W/kg, and is about 27.9 % higher than the Saito's antenna 152.5 W/kg, respectively.

  • A study on analysis and application of ocean currents information extracted from SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite image. The current information extracted from SAR satellite image is not real vector information but scalar information in normal direction of orbital path. To correct current information extracted from satellite image, observation of currents in the field is carried out at the same time and area as those of satellite image. In the analysis, current information extracted from satellite image is corrected by using observed ones. By this correction, the speed and the direction of current can be estimated. The extract current information seem to agree well with the observed ones.

  • A new IRF (Impulse Response Function) analysis technique in high resolution SAR image is presented by taking into account the real clutter environment. In order to investigate the realistic effect of clutter background on the impulse response function of SAR image, an ideally generated impulse response function is superimposed with a large number of background clutter data which are extracted from the various regions of an actual SAR image. As a performance measure, PSLR (Peak Sidelobe Ratio) of the clutter-contained IRF is presented in the various groups of clutter background, and finally the results are compared with the stochastic model.

  • This paper presents an analysis of SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) distribution characteristics in a head model using FDTD(Finite Difference Time Domain). In this study human head was modelled in four elements-layered structure, consisting of skin, fat, skull and brain. To calculate the electromagnetic fields wihtin the head model, FDTD method was used. In the FDTD method, the electromagnetic wave is analyzed by solving a Maxwell's equations repeatedly. For the calculation, distance between power source and head model increased by 10[m]. Power density and incident electric field intensity were calculated. Based on the incident electric field, the program which calaculated internal electric fields intensity and SAR calculation of the head model were developed. The results of developed program using FDTD were compared with those of a commericial programs, which showed the availability and usefulness of the suggested scheme in this paper.

  • 차세대 지능적 무기체계의 자동화를 목표로 SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) 영상 신호를 이용한 표적 인식률 향상을 위한 여러가지 방법들이 제안되어 왔다. 기존의 연구들은 SAR 영상의 고차원 특징을 그대로 사용했기 때문에 표적 인식의 성능저하가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 정보 획득 거리가 길고, 날씨에 제약이 없이 전천후 작전 운용이 가능하도록 레이더의 특징과 고해상도 영상을 결합한 SAR 이미지를 이용한 표적 인식률 향상 방법을 제안한다. 효과적인 표적 인식을 하기위해 고차원의 특징벡터를 저차원의 특징벡터로 축소하는 PCA(Principal Component Analysis)를 기반으로 하는 SVM(Support Vector Machine)을 사용한 표적 인식 기법을 사용하였고, PCA 기반의 SVM 분류기를 이용한 표적 인식이 SVM 만을 사용한 표적 인식보다 향상된 성능을 보인 것을 확인하였다.

Analysis of Relationships between Features Extracted from SAR Data and Land-cover Classes (SAR 자료에서 추출한 특징들과 토지 피복 항목 사이의 연관성 분석)

  • This paper analyzed relationships between various features from SAR data with multiple acquisition dates and mode (frequency, polarization and incidence angles), and land-cover classes. Two typical types of features were extracted by considering acquisition conditions of currently available SAR data. First, coherence, temporal variability and principal component transform-based features were extracted from multi-temporal and single mode SAR data. C-band ERS-1/2, ENVISAT ASAR and Radarsat-1, and L-band JERS-1 SAR data were used for those features and different characteristics of different SAR sensor data were discussed in terms of land-cover discrimination capability. Overall, tandem coherence showed the best discrimination capability among various features. Long-term coherence from C-band SAR data provided a useful information on the discrimination of urban areas from other classes. Paddy fields showed the highest temporal variability values in all SAR sensor data. Features from principal component transform contained particular information relevant to specific land-cover class. As features for multiple mode SAR data acquired at similar dates, polarization ratio and multi-channel variability were also considered. VH/VV polarization ratio was a useful feature for the discrimination of forest and dry fields in which the distributions of coherence and temporal variability were significantly overlapped. It would be expected that the case study results could be useful information on improvement of classification accuracy in land-cover classification with SAR data, provided that the main findings of this paper would be confirmed by extensive case studies based on multi-temporal SAR data with various modes and ground-based SAR experiments.

Analysis of SAR Interference Suppression Techniques using Eigen-subspace based Filter (고유치 기반 필터를 이용한 위성 SAR 영상 간섭신호 제거 기법)

  • SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) uses electromagnetic signals to acquire ground information and has been used for wide coverage reconnaissance missions regardless of weather conditions. However SAR is known to be vulnerable to interference signals by other communication devices or radar instruments and may suffer from undesirable performance degradations and image quality. In this paper, a modified Eigen-subspace based filter is proposed that can be easily applied to SAR images affected by interference signals. The method of constructing Eigen-subspace based filter is briefly described and various simulations are performed to show the performance of the interference mitigation process. The suppression filter is applied to a ALOS PALSAR raw data affected by interfering signals in order to verify its superiority over the Notch filter.

  • 하천 및 저수지와 같은 공간의 수체 탐지는 수자원 관리에서 매우 중요하며, 유역의 수문학적 과정을 이해하는데 도움을 준다. 수문학적 데이터 수집은 우량계, 수위계와 같은 물리적 인프라의 배치가 필요하다. 그러나 상대적으로 저개발된 국가는 수문학적 측정을 위한 인프라가 매우 미흡한 것이 현실이며, 북한과 같은 비접근 지역에 대한 수문학적 과정을 분석하는데는 한계가 있다. 인공위성 원격탐사 센서 중 SAR영상은 지표면에 직접 전파를 방사하고 산란되어 돌아오는 신호를 수신하여 영상을 만들기 때문에 일반적인 광학영상과는 달리 햇빛의 유무와 강우, 구름여부 등의 기상 조건의 영향을 거의 받지 않는 장점이 있다. 또한 국내와 같이 계절적인 요인과 인간활동에 의해 변화되는 물 순환을 SAR 영상은 지표수의 계절적 및 연간 변동성을 모니터링하는데 매우 유용한 자료로 평가되고 있다. 본 연구는 SAR영상을 이용하여 국내의 검증 가능한 지역의 저수지 수면적 변화를 모니터링하고 저수지 수면적과 저수량 분석을 수행하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 분석자료인 SAR영상은 ESA의 Sentinel-1영상을 2022년 4월부터 2022년 11월의 자료를 수집하여 소양강댐 저수지 수면적과 저수량과의 관계식을 도출하였다. 수체 추출을 위한 SAR 영상은 특히 수로의 일부 가장자리와 홍수터의 식물 존재로 인한 제외지의 매핑에 부정확성을 포함하여 처리에 몇 가지 단점을 갖는 한계도 존재하지만 악천후의 기상 조건에서도 작동할 수 있는 SAR 영상의 능력 덕분에 규칙적인 시간 간격으로 수체면적의 변화에 대한 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 향후 북한 지역의 주요 댐 저수지 수면적에 대한 연간변화와 장기간의 추세를 분석하는 연구를 진행할 계획이다.
