Mobile Text Readability Improvement Study of Korean Font - Focusing on Google Noto Sans Typeface -

  • The background of this study lies in the increasing economic value of Korean fonts and the necessity for font development focused on small character design suitable for the mobile environment. The objective of this study is to analyze and propose strategies to improve readability on mobile screens. The research was conducted by applying eight attributes that could enhance readability according to Tim Ahrens to the design process of a Korean mobile font, adjusting Google's Noto Sans Korean for print/publishing and for small sizes. The results of the study indicate that 1. type width should be increased, 2. open counter (interior space) should be increased, 3. closed counter should be decreased, 4. font weight should be increased, 5. stroke contrast should be decreased, 6. spacing between characters should be increased. Therefore, distinct font families should be provided, differentiating between print/publishing and mobile use, as well as varying font weights and sizes, applying readability and legibility enhancement techniques for Korean fonts.

Font Change Blindness Triggered by the Text Difficulty in Moving Window Technique (움직이는 창 기법에서의 덩이글 난이도에 따른 글꼴 변화맹)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate font change blindness based on text difficulty in the "Moving Window Task", as originally introduced by McConkie and Rayner(1975). During the reading process where the moving window was applied, different target words in terms of font style compared to the text were presented. As participants' gaze reached the position of the target word, the font of the target word was changed to match the text font. The font of the target word before the change was either sans-serif when the text font was serif, or serif when the text font was sans-serif. After completing the reading task, more than half of the participants(62.5%) reported not detecting the font change. Observation of eye movements at the target word positions revealed that when understanding the content within the text was difficult, there was an increase in the number of regressions, an extended gaze duration, and a reduction in saccade length. Specifically, the increase in the number of regressions was evident only when the text font was serif, in other words, when the font of the target word shifted from sans-serif to serif. These results suggest that sensory interference unrelated to content understanding is not easily detected during reading. However, the possibility of detection increases when comprehension of the content becomes challenging. Furthermore, this exceptional detection possibility implies that it may be higher when the text font is serif compared to when it is sans-serif.

Phase Behavior of a PEO-PPO-PEO Triblock Copolymer in Aqueous Solutions: Two Gelation Mechanisms

  • Phase behavior of a PEO-PPO-PEO (Pluronic P103) triblock copolymer in water is investigated using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and rheology. Pluronic P103 shows apparent two gel states in different temperature regions. The first sol-to-gel transition at a lower temperature (i.e., the hard gel I state) turns out to be the hexagonal microphase as evidenced by the combined SANS and SAXS and the frequency dependence of both G′ and G" in rheology. In contrast to the hard gel I, the second sol-to-gel transition (i. e., the hard gel II state) at a higher temperature represents the block copolymer micelles in somewhat disordered state rather than the ordered state seen in the hard gel I. Moreover, turbidity change depending only on the temperature with four distinct regions is observed and the large aggregates with size larger than 5,000 nm are detected with DLS in the turbid solution region. Based upon the present study, two different gelation mechanisms for aqueous PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer solutions are proposed.

Quantitative Scoring Criteria on the Importance of Software Weaknesses (소프트웨어 보안약점의 중요도에 대한 정량 평가 기준 연구)

  • In order to protect a software system from security attacks, it is important to remove the software security weaknesses through the entire life cycle of software development. To remove the software weaknesses more effectively, software weaknesses are prioritized and sorted continuously. In this paper, we introduce the existing scoring systems for software weakness and software vulnerability, and propose a new quantitative standard for the scoring system, which helps evaluate the importance of software weakness objectively. We also demonstrate the practicability of the proposed standard by scoring 2011 CWE/SANS Top 25 list with the proposed standard and comparing it to the original score of MITRE.

A Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Study for Sizes and Structures of Micelles and Vesicles Formed in Aqueous Solutions of Mixed Surfactants ADS/OTAC (ADS/OTAC 혼합 계면활성제 수용액에서 형성된 마이셀과 층막구형체의 크기 및 구조에 대한 작은 각 중성자 산란 연구)

  • The sizes and structure of micelles and vesicles formed in ammonium dodecyl sulfate (ADS)/octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (OTAC) mixed aqueous solutions were analyzed by small-angle neutron scattering. In micellar regions of pure ADS and OTAC aqueous solution, the spherical micelles were formed at given concentrations and their sizes were 40 and $61{\AA}$, respectively. The structure transition of pure micelles occurred above 300 mM due to the constancy of the intermicellar distance above 250 mM. The coexisting region of mixed micelles and vesicles in phase diagram of mixed system was also assured. It was investigated that vesicle formed spontaneously took a bilayer structure. The lamellar thickness of vesicles decreased with increasing concentration of vesicle samples. However, the size could not be determined for mixed micelle and vesicle above 100 nm due to limitation of low q ranges. Finally, The 9 mM solution of ADS mole fraction 0.9 (${\alpha}$=0.9) showed bilayer structure compared to phase diagram classified into mixed micelle.

한글 문자의 서체 분류

  • 본 논문에서는 한글 문자의 세리프(serif) 계열과 산세리프(sans-serif) 계열의 분류를 위한 특징을 제안한다. 한글의 서체는 세로획의 시작 부분에 장식 세리프(돌기)가 있는 세리프 계열과 그렇지 않은 산세리프 계열로 나눌 수 있다. 제안하는 한글 문자의 서체 분류 방법은 세리프 형태에서 추출한 특징을 이용하여 세리프 또는 산세리프 클래스로 분류하고, 각 클래스별로 적합한 특징 및 분류기를 학습하여 보다 다양한 서체를 인식하도록 계층적으로 설계한다. 제안한 특징의 유용성을 입증하기 위한 실험은 명조, 바탕, 궁서, 고딕, 돋움, 굴림 서체의 3,000개 낱자 영상에 적용하였다.

중성자 산란을 이용한 나노기공 측정

  • 나노기공물질은 특정 기반물질(matrix) 내부에 대략 나노미터크기의 기공을 함유하고 있는 물질이며 나노기공물질의 특성은 기반물질의 특성과 더불어 기공의 형태, 크기, 분포에 의해서 결정된다. 나노기공물질의 기공에 대한 정보를 측정하는 방법으로는 TEM, 흡착법, FE-SEM과 더불어 중성자 또는 X-ray 빔의 산란을 이용하는 소각중성자산란 (Small-Angle Neutron Scatering, SANS), 소각 X-ray 산란 (Small-Angle X-ray Scattering, SAXS), 중성자반사율측정 (Neutron Relfectimetry, NR), X-ray 반사율측정 (X-Ray Reflectometry, XRR) 등이 사용되고 있다. 본 발표는 대략 1 nm - 100 nm 영역의 bulk 구조와 층상구조를 측정할 수 있는 소각 중성자 산란과 중성자 반사율 측정기법을 이용한 나노기공 측정기술을 다룬다.
