  • ATM(Automated-Teller Machine) is a maching that receives and pays money directly. The gate module of an ATM separates forgeries from bills and changes the transfer direction of bills. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of the gate was analyzed numerically and experimentally. The moment of inertia of the gate lever, the suction force of the solenoid and the spring force were measured respectively. And the displacements of the plunger, the vibration of the bracket, the input voltage and current were measured experimentally. The measured dynamic behaviors were simulated numerically using SAMCEF program, which can accommodate the kinematics and vibrations of flexible bodies. Through the analysis, the design factors were found to make a fast and reliable new ATM machine.

  • ATM(automated-teller machine) is a machine that receives and pays money directly. The double bill detector(DBD) module of an ATM detects double bills from its thickness. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of the DBD was analyzed, which cannot be simulated correctly by a package program of SAMCEF. And the displacements of the lever was measured for various bills experimentally. The measured dynamic behaviors were analyzed kinematically using a vector equation and simulated dynamically by the derivation of equation of motion with consideration of damping and stiffness of the DBD and bills. The analysis showed that the spring constant of the system is not so influential, instead, the contact angle between the lever and bill needs to be larger than the existing DBD in order to be laster and reliable DBD.

  • The vibration of rotor systems is caused by various factors, such as misalignment, unbalance, gear meshing, error of assembly, etc. Modal test and TDA/ODS analysis were done. The dynamic analysis of the armature was done with SAMCEF which is a commercial software for finite element and kinematic analysis. The transient response of the armature is calculated by the SAMCEF with the consideration of magnetic force and bearing stiffness, which are the essential elements for the design of high speed cutter. Main frequency of the vibration is due to the unbalance of the armature. The FEM analysis model considering unbalance and the high speed cutter have same vibration properties. The vibration sources of the high speed cutter is proved to be unbalance.

  • The role of a seat belt in a vehicle is to protect the driver from injury when a crash occurs. However when a large crash occurs, the driver slips forward and receives a strong impact. To prevent this situation, improvement of seat belts is essential. In this study, the new concept of a dynamic locking tongue (DLT) for seat belts is developed. The DLT device is used to reduce the impact to the driver's chest by tightening the webbing, so the driver is protected from severe injury in a large crash. First, a finite element model of the DLT device is created using SAMCEF and structural analysis is conducted with boundary conditions similar to those found in experiments. Then, the stress in the DLT device can be calculated. Second, the shape of the DLT device is optimized using the response surface analysis method in order to minimize the stress and weight. The validity of the optimization of the DLT device is verified using structural analysis.

  • The wiper system of a vehicle is important because it wipes the windshield, thereby enabling drivers to see through the windshield even under conditions of rain and snow. The blade is the key component of the wiper system because it wipes the windshield. When wiper-arm spring causes the blade to be pressed on the windshield optimum performance of wiping can be achieved when appropriate contact pressure is maintained. In this study, a dynamic analysis of the wiper system is carried out. A three-dimensional finite-element model of the wiper system is generated using SAMCEF, a commercial structural dynamic analysis program. The distribution of the contact pressure of the blade in its dynamic state is calculated. The simulation result is compared to the experiment result. Using the results of this study, the contact pressure of the blade can be estimated.

  • Thermal energy generated because of the friction between the disc and pad is transferred to both sides and causes thermal expansion of the material, which affects the contact pressure distribution. This phenomenon, which is called thermoelastic instability (TEI), is affected by the natural mode of a disc. TEI results in the formation of a hot spot and causes hot judder vibrations. In this study, three-dimensional analysis of the hot judder of a ventilated disc for automotives was performed by using the commercial finite element analysis program, SAMCEF. The intermediate processor based on a staggered approach was used to exchange the result data of the mechanical and thermal model. The hot spot was formed on the surface of the disc, and the number of hot spots was compared with the natural mode of the disc.

  • In this study, a simulation model to estimate the current-collection performance of a high-speed train was developed by using a commercial finite element analysis software, SAMCEF. A three-dimensional springDdamperDmass model of a pantograph was created, and its reliability was validated by comparing the receptance of the model to that of the actual pantograph. The wave propagation speed of the catenary model was compared with the analytical wave propagation speed of the catenary system presented in the UIC 799 OR standard. The length of the droppers was controlled, and the pre-sag of the contact wire due to gravity was considered. The catenary and the pantograph were connected by using a contact element, and the contact force variation when the pantograph was moved at velocities of 300 km/h and 370 km/h was obtained. The average, standard deviation, maximum, and minimum values of the contact force were analyzed, and the effectiveness of the developed simulation model was examined.

  • In this study, computational rotor dynamic analyses of a composite roller used for large LCD panel manufacturing process have been conducted. The present computational method is based on the general finite element method with rotating gyroscopic effects of rotor systems. General purpose commercial finite element code, SAMCEF which has special rotordynamics analysis module is applied. For the purpose of numerical verification, comparison study for a benchmark dual rotor model with support bearings is also presented. Detailed finite element models for composite roller with optimized lamination angles are constructed and analyzed considering gravity effect in order to investigate vibration characteristics in actual operation environment. As results of the present study, rotor stability diagrams and mass unbalance responses are presented for different rotating conditions.

  • This paper deals with a squeal noise in a brake system. It has been proved that the squeal noise is influenced by the angular misalignment of a disk, disk run-out, with the previously experimental study. In this study, a cause of the noise is examined by using FE analysis program(SAMCEF) and numerical analyses with a derived analytical equation of the disk based on the experimental results. The FE analyses and numerical results show that the squeal noise is due to the disk run-out as the experimental results and the frequency component of the noise equals to that of a disk's bending mode arising from the Hopf bifurcation.
