Objectives: To examine the associations of borg's scale with actual heart rates of workers and energy consumption during their physical work. Methods: A total of 72 workers performing physical activities in postal service, ceramic manufacturing, and metal manufacturing participated in heart rate measurement for 1 work shift using the activity meter(A360) and responded to a borg's scale questionnaire. Results: In consistent with previous findings, we presented high correlation between borg's scale and energy consumption measures among workers performing physical activities(r=0.89) while post-work average heart rate showed nearly no correlation with post-work borg's scale (r=0.09). We proposed a set of adjustments when using borg's scale to estimate physical workload for those workers engaged in physical activities during the majority of their work shift. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that a caution should be paid to when using Borg's scale to estimate heart rates during physical activities as well as energy consumption as the product of heart rate measurements.
The purpose of this study was to develop the Children's Social Support Scale to assess three potential aspects of social support in elementary school age children ; the children's subjective apprasials of family, peer, and teacher support ; the frequency of supportive behaviors available from the child's support network; and the size of children's social support network. The subjects of this study were 380 children of forth and sixth graders in elementary schools located in Seoul. The 68 items(perceived support scale 30 items, enacted support scale 35 items, and support network 3 items) were analyzed by the statistical methods of item analysis, principal factor analysis, Factor analysis revealed that a three factor solution was the best for the Perceived Support scale ; family peer, teacher support. Enacted Support scale comprised of three factors; emotional, self-esteem, and informational support. Support Network scale was composed of emotional, self-esteem, and informational support network. Reliabilities for the domains ranged form .75-89. It was concluded that the children's Social Support scale in general is acceptable for use in Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of this methodological study was to examine the validity and reliability of a translated Korean version of Templer's death anxiety scale among older adults. Methods: The translated Korean scale was administered to 203 older people who aged over 65 years. Exploratory factor analysis was utilized to assess the factor structure of the scale. Internal consistency of the scale was determined using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and Guttman's split-half coefficient. Results: Factor loadings of the scale ranged from .43 to .86. The scale showed good internal consistencies of both total scale (13 items, ${\alpha}=.83$) and three sub-scales: meaning of death (6 items, ${\alpha}=.77$), death-related event (5 items, ${\alpha}=.72$), and time of death (2 items, ${\alpha}=.80$). The concurrent validity compare with Fear of Death Scale was significant. The Cronbach's alpha and Guttman's split-half coefficient were .83 and .80, respectively. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrate that the Korean version of Templer's death anxiety scale had satisfactory validity and reliability to measure death anxiety among Korean older people.
The purpose of this study was the development of a scale to assess the daily hassles of school age children. The subjects were 398 third and sixth grade children selected from elementary schools in Seoul, Inchon, Taejon, Kwangju and Pusan. Instruments included a questionnaire composed of a 96-item Daily Hassles Coping Scale, demographic questions, a 27-item Children's Depression Inventory, the 42-item Han & Yoo Daily Hassles Scale for Children, and a 30-item Children's Behavior Check List for mothers. Mean, %, ${\chi}^2$, Cramer's V, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis and Pearson's r were used for data analysis. 82 items from the 96-item Daily Hassles Coping Scale were selected through the item discriminant method. (Cramer's V discriminant coefficients ranged from .36 to .79). Five factors were extracted from the lst and 2nd factor analyses. Subscales were "parent-related," "friend-related I," "study-related," "friend-related II," and "teacher-related" stress. Criterion validity of the 82-item scale was confirmed through significant correlations with the Children's Depression Inventory (r=.55) and the Han & Yoo Daily Hassles Scale for Children (r=.22). Internal consistency of this scale was high, including internal reliability of subscales. These results confirm this scale as a valid and reliable measure of daily hassles of school age children.
The purpose of this study was the development of a scale to assess daily hassles coping behaviors for school aged children. The subjects were 398 children consisted of 197 3rd grade an 201 6th grade. They were selected from elementary school in Seoul, InCheon, DaeJeon, GwangJu and Pusan(202 males and 196 females) A questionnaire as the methodological instrument composed of 65-item daily hassles coping scale, demographic questions, 27-item Children's Depression Inventory and 20-item Locus of Control Scale. Statistics such as mean, %, X2, Cramer's V, Cronbach's α, factor analysis and Person's γ was used for used data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1)55 items of the 65-item scale were selected through item discriminant method. The discriminant coeffcients of the items(Cramer's V) ranged from .35 to .68. 2)5 factors were extracted from the 1st and the 2nd factor analysis. The subscales labelled 'active' 'passive' 'aggressive' 'avoidant' and 'social support seeking' coping. The criterion validity of this scale was assessed by computing the correlation measures of Children's Depression Inventory and Locus of Control Scale with this scale. Most coefficients were significant(ranging from r=-.16 to r=.40,p<.01,p<.001), although their correlations were modest. 3)Finally, the internal consistency of this scale appeared to be at an acceptable level(Cronbach's α=.90)

The hybrid grid was adopted and numerical prediction analysis of propeller unsteady bearing force considering free surface was performed for mode and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder system by employing RANS method and VOF model. In order to obtain the propeller velocity under self-propulsion point, firstly, the numerical simulation for self-propulsion test of full-scale ship is carried out. The results show that the scale effect of velocity at self-propulsion point and wake fraction is obvious. Then, the transient two-phase flow calculations are performed for model and full-scale KCS hull-propeller-rudder systems. According to the monitoring data, it is found that the propeller unsteady bearing force is fluctuating periodically over time and full-scale propeller's time-average value is smaller than model-scale's. The frequency spectrum curves are also provided after fast Fourier transform. By analyzing the frequency spectrum data, it is easy to summarize that each component of the propeller bearing force have the same fluctuation frequency and the peak in BFP is maximum. What's more, each component of full-scale bearing force's fluctuation value is bigger than model-scale's except the bending moment coefficient about the Y-axis.
The purpose of this study was to develop the Daily Hassles Scale for children in Korea. The subject were 444 children of 184 fourth graders and 260 sixth graders selected form five elementary schools in Seoul(217 male and 227 female). A questionnaire consisting of 90-item daily hassles scale, demographic questions, and some additional questions was used as a methodological instrument. statistics used for data analysis were X2, cramer's V, factor analysis, multi-regression, Pearson's r, Cronbach's α. The major findings of this study were as follows. 1) 87 items of the 90-item scale were acceptible through item discriminant method. The discriminant coefficients of the items(Cramer's V) ranged form .28 to .73. 2) 6 factors(parents, home environment, friends, studies, teachers & school, the surroundings) were extracted from factor analysis. Multi-regression analysis conducted to reduce the length of scale have drawed 42 items for 'the Daily Hassles Scale for Children in Korea'. The correlation between this scale and the Quality of Life Scale(Olson & Barnes, 1982) was conducted to test the criterion-related validity, and the coefficient was significant(r=-.52, p<.001).3) Finally, reliability coefficients(Cronbach'α) of this scale was. 85.
The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for evaluation of preschool children's peer competence and to examine its validity and reliability. The 15 items of the preliminary scale were completed by teachers, and peer rating scale for assessment of peer acceptance was administered to 365 children 5 to 6 years of age. The methods for data analysis included item analysis, factor analysis for construct validity, Pearson correlations between teacher's ratings of peer competence and children's ratings of peer acceptance for concurrent validity, and Cronbach's u for reliability. The 15 items of the scathe were found be satisfactory in terms of item response distribution and item discrimination. Factor analysis revealed that a 3-factor solution was the best fit: sociability, prosocial behavior, leadership in peer relations. Correlations between teacher's ratings and children's ratings were as significant. Cronbach'so ranged from .88 to .93 for three subscales and .93 for the total scale. It was concluded that the psychometric properties of the peer competence scale in general were acceptable for use.
Objective : The purpose of the study was to investigate and compare the differences between Parkinson's disease rating, balance, fall and gait scales. Results : Parkinson's disease rating scales include the Hoehn-Yahr Scale and the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). The Hoehn-Yahr Scale can measure disease rates easily; however it is not sensitive enough to evaluate the disease's process and management. UPDRS's advantage is in it's higher inter-reliability score; however it is more complicated to use. Parkinson's balance scales are comprised of the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC). BBS has the advantage in that it is cheaper to measure and simple in use. ABC's advantage is especially in it's ability to measure higher functional levels; however it is more difficult measure responses due to scores appearing in both extremes. The Fall Efficacy Scale (FES) and The Survey of Activities and Fear of Falling in the Elderly (SAFE) are Parkinson's fall scales. FES's leverage over SAFE is that it is simpler to measure; however it does not coincide with responses which proves disadvantageous in measuring balance loss in high-level Parkinson's patients. SAFE's advantage is in it's simpler use and ability to be utilized without encountering the fear of fall; however it's at a disadvantage in regards to its use with multilateral aspects providing insufficient inspection. Lastly, the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) and the Functional Gait Assessment (FGA) are Parkinson's gait scales. DGI is advantageous in its ability to test gait ability when exposed to a variety of external environments; however it is disadvantageous in that it registers higher scores with activities. FGA's advantage is in it's dynamic balance test; however it at a disadvantage with those unable to walk. Conclusion : A researcher of Parkinson's patients must choose each scale while considering their positive and negative characteristics.
The aim of this study was to develop and validate measures of a mother's reaction to children's negative emotions. After construct factors of a mother's reaction to children's negative emotions based on the theoretical basis and existing scales were explored, the first preliminary items were extracted. After the content validity was confirmed by expert opinions, the second preliminary items were composed, and the initial survey was carried out. Using exploratory factor analysis, three principal factors and 21 items were revealed to be most suitable. The factors of the scale consist of emotion-coaching-reactions, oversensitive reactions, and emotion-minimizing-reactions, respectively. In addition, the reliability analysis and validation analysis of the scale was conducted, by means of surveying 413 elementary students. The internal coherence reliability and test-retest reliability were verified as was the general internal coherence and timing stability of the scale. There were three additional verifications to validate the scale. (1)For the evidence based on internal structure, the confirmatory factor analysis and convergent-discriminant evidence; this resulted in confirming the factor structure of the scale as being reliable. (2)In order to understand the relationships to other variables, the correlation analysis came in effect to the overall scale and each of its sub-factors, showing that they are significantly correlated with the scale of the child's perception on rearing attitudes of the mother. (3)As for evidence based on the consequences of the test, the correlation analysis produced a result showed that sub-factors of the scale have as significant correlation with the child's emotional intelligence and resilience.
