  • We introduce a code called tlc_s05, to fit sparsely sampled JHK band Cepheid light curve data with template light curves to derive the mean magnitude. A brief description of the code is provided here. We tested the performance of the code in deriving the mean JHK band magnitudes using simulations, and we found that it is better to observe more than four evenly spaced data points per light curve, which permits tlc_s05 to derive accurate mean magnitudes for Cepheid JHK band light curves.

  • When a input image is extensively magnified on the computer system, it is almost impossible to replicate the original shape because of mismatched coordinates system. In order to resolve the problem, the shape of the magnified image has been reconfigured using the bilinear interpolation method, low pass special filtering interpolation method and B-spline interpolation method. Ferguson curve interpolation method based on the CAD/CAM curve interpolation algorithm.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model of learning curve is proposed to study the finger's reaction time. The model is a logarithmic linear type which represents a learning curve appropriately, and parameters are estimated by the linear. The learning coefficient and percentage of a reaction time can be easily computed in the mathematical model. This quantitative approach provides an important information to be used for the working capability qualification for re-employment as well as for the adaptability estimation of aged workers.

  • This paper deals with surface crack behavior and the fatigue life prediction of notched specimens using the relation between surface crack length, a, and the cycle ratio, $N/N_{f}$. From the $a-N\;/\;N_{f}$ curves, UC(the upper limit curve), LC(the lower limit curve) and MC(the middle limit curve) were assumed and utilized to predict the fatigue life and crack growth rate. The data computed from the three assumed curves were compared with the experimental data. It has been found that in the stable crack growth region ($N/N_{f}=0.3-0.8$) fatigue life can be predicted within 20% errors. Using the characteristics of $a-N\;/\;N_{f}$ curve, it is possible to predict the $da/dN-K_{max}$ curve, the $da/dN-{\Delta}K_{{\varepsilon}_t}$ curve, and the $S-N_{f}$ curve.

  • This paper presents a new efficient approach to estimate the S-N type fatigue life assessment curve for S550 high strength steels under low-cycle actions at -60℃. The proposed approach combines a single set of monotonic tension test and one set of fatigue tests to determine the key material damage parameters in the continuum damage mechanics framework. The experimental program in this study examines both the material response under low-cycle actions. The microstructural mechanisms revealed by the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) at the low temperature, furthermore, characterizes the effect due to different strain ratios and low temperature on the low-cycle fatigue life of S550 steels. Anchored on the experimental results, this study validates the S-N curve determined from the proposed approach. The S-N type curve determined from one set of fatigue tests and one set of monotonic tension tests estimates the fatigue life of all specimens under different strain ratios satisfactorily.

  • A practical method is derived for determining the unit hydrograph and S-curve from complex storm events by using a smoothed unit kernel approach. The using a unit kernel yields more convenient way of constructing a unit hydrograph and its S-curve than a conventional method. However, with use of real data, the unit kernel oscillates and is unstable so that a unit hydrograph and S-curve cannot easily obtained. The use of non-parametric ridge regression with a Laplacian matrix is suggested for deriving an event averaged unit kernel which reduces the computational efforts when dealing with the Nash instantaneous unit hydrograph as a basis of the kernel. A method changing the unit hydrograph duration is also presented. The procedure shown in this work will play an efficient role when any unit hydrograph works is involved.

  • Objective: This study was focused on the estimation of parameters of Wood's model and description of the lactation curve using the cows which were lactated over 24 months on the first lactation. Methods: The database included 1,333 pure-bred dairy Simmental primiparous cows which lactated for 24 months (732 days). The initial dataset entering the procedure of assessment of parameters of Wood's function included 35,826 milk yield records. Milk yield was recorded throughout lactation, with the earliest record taken on day 6 and the latest on day 1,348 of lactation. This dataset was used for the assessment of parameters a, b, c of Wood's model using the non-linear statistical procedure. These parameters were estimated for different length of lactation. The assessed parameters were used for calculation of some characteristics of lactation curves. Results: The lowest value of a parameter (15.2317) of Wood's model of lactation curve was found out in lactations up to 305 days long, contrary to b and c parameters which were highest in those lactations (0.1029 and 0.0015, respectively). The maximum value of a parameter (17.4329) was found out in lactations up to 640 days long, unlike b and c parameters which were minimal in those lactations (0.0603 and 0.0010, respectively). Conclusion: It can be concluded that the parameters of Wood's model and the shape of lactation curve are changing with the growing number of milk yield records. Also, the assessed parameters revealed a significant milk production potential after 305 days of lactation.

  • The objective of this study is to propose curve fitted equations that can facilitate calculations and improve a practical applicability when the seismic performance of buried pipelines needs to be evaluated. The curve fitted equations are derived based on the evaluation of the dynamic responses of concrete pipe with a boundary condition of fixed-free ends. To study the dynamic response of underground pipe, the numerical analysis program developed in the previous research has been used. The location of maximum strain has been determined through dynamic analyses for a boundary condition of fixed-free ends. Then $wavelength{\lambda}$ of 5-1000(m) and propagation velocity(Vs) of 100-2000(m/s) have been applied at the location of maximum strain and the unit srain curve with the changes of the $wavelength{\lambda}$ and propagation velocity(Vs) has been obtaind. Non-linear least-square regression has been used to develop highly applicable curve fitted equations and various types of exponential regression equations have been checked out. Thus curve fitted equations and necessary coefficients with best results are suggested.
