Stabilization of discrete-time semilinear heat processes by boundary inputs

  • In this paper, we are going to study the stabilization of the semilinear heat equation with inhomogenous boundary conditions, whose solutions are not (in general) stable. Here, we use the discrete-time feedback inputs through the boundary of geometric domain to the semilinear system under some additional conditions and assumptions. It is shown that under these conditions, the stabilization can be realized by applying pole assignment argument to the principal linear part of the system and that the solutions exist globally in discrete-time t without any finite escape time.

SOLUTIONS OF STURM-LIOUVILLE BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR HIGHER-ORDER DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

  • The existence of solutions of a class of two-point boundary value problems for higher order differential equations is studied. Sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one solution are established. It is of interest that the nonlinearity f in the equation depends on all lower derivatives, and the growth conditions imposed on f are allowed to be super-linear (the degrees of phases variables are allowed to be greater than 1 if it is a polynomial). The results are different from known ones since we don't apply the Green's functions of the corresponding problem and the method to obtain a priori bound of solutions are different enough from known ones. Examples that can not be solved by known results are given to illustrate our theorems.

CAS glass와 Yb2O3를 이용한 2차상의 형상 제어가 AlN 세라믹의 열전도도 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Morphological Control of Secondary Phase using Yb2O3 and Ca-Al-Si-O-based Glass on Thermal and Mechanical Properties of AlN)

  • We investigate the effects of Yb2O3 and calcium aluminosilicate (CAS) glass as sintering additives on the sintering behavior of AlN. The AlN specimens are sintered at temperatures between 1700℃ and 1900℃ for 2 h in a nitrogen atmosphere. When the Yb2O3 content is low (within 3 wt.%), an isolated shape of secondary phase is observed at the AlN grain boundary. In contrast, when 3 wt.% Yb2O3 and 1 wt.% CAS glass are added, a continuous secondary phase is formed at the AlN grain boundary. The thermal conductivity decreases when the CAS glass is added, but the sintering density does not decrease. In particular, when 10 wt.% Yb2O3 and 1 wt.% CAS glass are added to AlN, the flexural strength is the highest, at 463 MPa. These results are considered to be influenced by changes in the microstructure of the secondary phase of AlN.

  • In this study capacitance and dielectric loss tan${\delta}$were measured with frequency changes for commercial $Z_nO$ varistors with pin-type leads and equivalent circuit simulation was proposed. The leakage inductance in pin leads and the stray caoacitance could be seperated from the dielectric characteristics of $Z_nO$ varistors by the simulation of equivalent circuit. The equivalent circuit model considered semiconduction layer, dielectric layer and depletion layer as the grain boundary structure of varistor is well fitted to the observed data.

ON THE GAUSS MAP COMING FROM A FRAMING OF THE TANGENT BUNDLE OF A COMPACT MANIFOLD

  • Let W be a parallelizable compact oriented manifold of dimension $n$ with boundary ${\partial}W=M$. We define the so-called Gauss map $f:M{\rightarrow}S^{n-1}$ using a framing of TW and show that the degree of $f$ is equal to Euler-Poincar$\acute{e}$ number ${\chi}(W)$, regardless of the specific framing. As a special case, we get a Hopf theorem.

스프링구동 메커니즘의 충격 하중을 받는 링크부재의 내피로 특성 향상 (Improvement of Fatigue-Proof Characteristics of Link Members Under Impact Loadings by a Spring-Actuated Mechanism)

  • The air circuit breaker (ACB) with the spring-actuated mechanism was studied to improve the fatigue-proof characteristics of its link. The low-cycle fatigue fracture phenomenon occurred on the critical link, called h-link, of ACB from the repeated rapid closing and opening operations. To analyze the cause of failure, dynamic FE-analysis on the b-link part of ACB was performed considering tile velocity and acceleration of the links per time as boundary conditions, which were obtained by using ADAMS. Also, the S-N curve obtained by experiments was used to investigate requirement on the fatigue-proof characteristics. Then, to reduce the maximum tensile stress on the h-link, three types of h-link were examined and one of them was selected.

  • Determinations of conformal map from the unit disk onto a Jordan region are reduced to solve the Theodorsen equation which is an integral equation for the boundary correspondence function. Among numerical conformal maps the Wegmann's method is well known as a Newton efficient one for solving Theodorsen equation. However this method has not so wide class of convergence. We proposed as an improved method for convergence by applying a low frequency filter to the Wegmann's method. In this paper, we investigate error analysis and propose an automatic algorithm based on this analysis.

경계윤활 및 무윤활 상태에서 선접촉을 하는 세라믹과 강의 마찰과 마멸 특성 (Friction and Wear of Ceramic-Steel Pairs in Boundary-Lubricated and Unlubricated Line-Contact Sliding)

  • The friction and wear behaviors of ceramics against steels with lubricants were investigated and compared with those observed in air. Lubrications wbre done by a water and a commercial engine oil as received. The investigated ceramics were $Al_{2}O_{3}$, SiC, and $Si_{3}N_{4}$. Steels with 0.2 wt.% C were heat treated to obtain tempered structure. A cylinder-on-plate tribometer with rotated sliding motion was used to carry out the experiments. In the experiments reported here, the ranges of different testing speeds and loads were used. It was found that the friction and wear characteristics of tested pairs were significantly influenced by environments. In water and oil environments the wear of ceramics was reduced from 10$^{-6}$ g/s down to 10$^{-8}$ g/s in dry sliding at the same values of the frictional power which are the products of the friction coefficient, the load and the sliding speed. SiC showed excellent wear resistant behavior in water sliding, which was the lowest among tested ceramics, but it was, very poor in oils. In case of $Si_{3}N_{4}$, the wear rates were very low under oil environment, but the highest in water. The wear rates of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ were very low in both lubricating conditions at low values of the frictional power, but high at high values of the frictional power.

  • In this work we investigate the nonlocal elliptic equation with critical Hardy-Sobolev exponents as follows, $$(P)\;\{(-{\Delta}_p)^su={\lambda}{\mid}u{\mid}^{q-2}u+{\frac{{\mid}u{\mid}^{p{^*_s}(t)-2}u}{{\mid}x{\mid}^t}}{\hspace{10}}in\;{\Omega},\\u=0{\hspace{217}}in\;{\mathbb{R}}^N{\backslash}{\Omega},$$ where Ω ⊂ ℝN is an open bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary, 0 < s < 1, λ > 0 is a parameter, 0 < t < sp < N, 1 < q < p < ps where $p^*_s={\frac{N_p}{N-sp}}$, $p^*_s(t)={\frac{p(N-t)}{N-sp}}$, are the fractional critical Sobolev and Hardy-Sobolev exponents respectively. The fractional p-laplacian (-∆p)su with s ∈ (0, 1) is the nonlinear nonlocal operator defined on smooth functions by $\displaystyle(-{\Delta}_p)^su(x)=2{\lim_{{\epsilon}{\searrow}0}}\int{_{{\mathbb{R}}^N{\backslash}{B_{\epsilon}}}}\;\frac{{\mid}u(x)-u(y){\mid}^{p-2}(u(x)-u(y))}{{\mid}x-y{\mid}^{N+ps}}dy$, x ∈ ℝN. The main goal of this work is to show how the usual variational methods and some analysis techniques can be extended to deal with nonlocal problems involving Sobolev and Hardy nonlinearities. We also prove that for some α ∈ (0, 1), the weak solution to the problem (P) is in C1,α(${\bar{\Omega}}$).

Transfer matrix method for solution of FGMs thick-walled cylinder with arbitrary inhomogeneous elastic response

  • This paper presents a numerical solution for the thick cylinders made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) with a constant Poisson's ratio and an arbitrary Young's modulus. We define two fundamental solutions which are derived from an ordinary differential equation under two particular initial boundary conditions. In addition, for the single layer case, we can define the transfer matrix N. The matrix gives a relation between the values of stress and displacement at the interior and exterior points. By using the assumed boundary condition and the transfer matrix, we can obtain the final solution. The transfer matrix method also provides an effective way for the solution of multiply layered cylinder. Finally, a lot of numerical examples are present.
