This study attempts to propose the possibility of the sex reversal in Sinonovacula constricta and Gomphina veneriformis by confirming the changes in the sex ratio with the shell length in the same population level. For analysis of sex ratio, 100 individuals of S. constricta (SL 26.5-95.0 mm) and 2385 individuals of G. veneriformis (SL 15.1-60.1 mm) were used. Sex was analyzed histologically. Both species displayed the tendency of increase in the female proportion with increase in shell length. In this study, changes in the sex ratio in accordance with the growth of S. constricta and G. veneriformis are determined to be indirect evidence that signifies their sex reversal.
The shrinkage rate of solid state sintering has been theoretically derived by combining the rate equation of material transport and the net free energy change resulting from the decrease of solid-vapor interface and the increase of grain boundary during sintering. For a sinteing model an idealized situation of the spherical particles with BCC packing was taken as the initial condition and the shrinkage was assumed to occur by forming the flat circualr grain boundaries on each particle. The plotted shrinkage rates as a function of grain boundary to surface energy ratio $(gamma_g/gamma_s)$ have shown that the relative density increases linearly at the initial stage of sintering but the shrinkage rate is decreased upon further sintering due to a decrease in driving force for densificaton. It has been also shown that the densification is critically affected by the $gamma_g/gamma_s$ ratio. In order to get the complete densificatin the ratio should be less than $sqrt{3}$. Any additive or atmospheric condition causing the decrease of$_g/gamma_s$ ratio will enhance sintering.

In this paper, the mix design of the super flowing concrete is described with respcet to basic concept, confined water ratio($\beta_p$), volume ratio of water-binder(w/b), volume ratio of fine aggregates($S_r$) and coarse aggregates($G_v$). The primary purposes of this study are to evaluate the effects of cementitious materials(fly ash, slag cement, portland cement), mixing factors ($\beta_p$, w/b, $S_r$, $G_v$)., and to propose the mix design method of the super flowing concrete. As results of this study, confined water ratio($\beta_p$) of cementitious materials is very high (0.99~1.1), and then the ranges of the optimum mixing factors to be satisfied with the super flowing concrete are $S_r$ 47$\ell$
2%, $G_v$ 52$\ell$
1%.
Fuzzy c-means clustering technique is applied to improve the accuracy of G/R ratio used for rainfall estimation by radar reflectivity. G/R ratio is computed by the ground rainfall records at AWS(Automatic Weather System) sites to the radar estimated rainfall from the reflectivity of Kwangduck Mt. radar station with 100km effective range. G/R ratio is calculated by two methods: the first one uses a single G/R ratio for the entire effective range and the other two different G/R ratio for two regions that is formed by clustering analysis, and absolute relative error and root mean squared error are employed for evaluating the accuracy of radar rainfall estimation from two G/R ratios. As a result, the radar rainfall estimated by two different G/R ratio from clustering analysis is more accurate than that by a single G/R ratio for the entire range.
In order to promote the germination of Korean lawn grass(Zoysia japonica Steud.) seeds a gravimetric seed selection with a mixed chemical solution and the germination promotion with KOH treatment were studied and following results were obtained. 1. When immersed into methanol(S.G., 0.7) 14 percent of immature seeds were precipitated. 2. With water (S.G., 1.0) 36.5 percent of mature seeds were submerged. 3. On a mixture of carbon tetrachloride (S.G., 1.6) and ethylether (S.G., 0.7) in a ratio of 4:6 the seed selection was most effective. 4. When treated with KOH solution the germination rate was 71.01 percent in contrast to 6.0 percent of germination without the treatment. 5. As for concentration of KQH solution, 15 percent depressed the germination (46.7 %) whereas above 20 % the germination rate was gradually increased (79.32 %) up to 40 percent of concentration where the concentration started to depress germination ratio (77.32 %). 6. Finally, in connection with the duration of KOH treatment, a time lapse of up to 20 minutes depressed the germinating ratio(70.02 %) and 30 minutes to 45 minutes increased this ratio to 94.52 percent. 60 minutes of treatment depressed the germination to 75.62 percent.
Pseudomonas oleovorans was cultivated to produce medium chain length polyhydroxyalkanoates (MCL-PHA) fram octanoic acid and ammonium nitrate as carbon and nitrogen source, respectively, by a pH-stat fed-batch culture technique. The octanoate concentration of the culture broth was maintained below 4 g/L by feeding the mixture of octanoic acid and ammonium nitrate when the culture pH rose above high limit. The effect of the ratio of octanoic acid to ammonium nitrate (C/N ratio) in the feed on the PHA production was examined. The final cell concentrations of 62.5, 54.7, and 9.5 g/L, PHA contents of 62.9, 75.1, and 67.6% of dry cell weight, and productivities of 1.03, 0.632, and 0.161 g/L/h were obtained when the C/N ratio in the feed were 10, 20, and 100 g octanoic acid/g ammonium nitrate, respectively.
This experiment was performed to investigate the effects of lysine (Lys) to DE ratio on growth performance, and carcass characterics in finishing barrows. Ninety six cross-bred finishing barrows ((Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire)${\times}$Duroc, average BW $58.25{\pm}0.48$ kg) were assigned as a randomized complete block design by 2 energy levels and 4 Lys:DE ratios on the basis of BW to one of 8 treatments with 3 replications with 4 animals per pen. The levels of DE and Lys:DE ratio for each treatment were i) DE 3.35 Mcal/kg, 1.5 g Lys/Mcal DE, ii) DE 3.35 Mcal/kg, 1.8 g Lys/Mcal DE, iii) DE 3.35 Mcal/kg, 2.1 g Lys/Mcal DE, iv) DE 3.35 Mcal/kg, 2.4 g Lys/Mcal DE, v) DE 3.60 Mcal/kg, 1.5 g Lys/Mcal DE, vi) DE 3.60 Mcal/kg, 1.8 g Lys/Mcal DE, vii) DE 3.60 Mcal/kg, 2.1 g Lys/Mcal DE, viii) DE 3.60 Mcal/kg, 2.4 g Lys/Mcal DE. During finishing period from 58 kg to 103 kg of BW, increased energy density in the diet increased (p<0.05) ADG and gain:feed ratio, but did not influence ADFI. As Lys:DE ratio was increased, ADG, ADFI and gain:feed ratio were improved in finishing barrows (p<0.05). There were positive interactions (p<0.05) between carcass weight, grade, and backfat thickness and energy density and Lys level (p<0.05). In conclusion, data from our current study suggest that maximum yields including ADG, gain:feed ratio, carcass weight and grade can be achieved by administrating finishing pigs with an ideal Lys:DE ratio, Lys 2.1 g/DE Mcal.
This study was performed to determine the changes of maternal iron status during pregnancy cross sectionally, and to evaluate the appropriateness of the cut-off points of hemoglobin (Hb). hematocrit (Hct), serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) and sTfR : ferritin ratio for assessing iron deficiency status based on serum ferritin level (< 12${\mu}g$/L). Serum Hb concentrations in the first trimester were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than those in the second and third trimester. Serum levels of iron and ferritin in the third trimester were significantly lower (p < 0.05) than those in the first and second trimester. On the other hand, sTfR:ferritin ratios in the third trimester were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than those in the first and second trimester. sTfR concentrations did not change significantly during pregnancy. The appropriate cut-off points of Hb were 11.5g/dL for whole period of pregnancy. 12.0g/dL for 1st trimester. and 11.5g/dL for both 2nd and 3rd trimester. The good cut-off points of Hct were 34% for whole period of pregnancy. 36% for 1st trimester. and 34% for both 2nd and 3rd trimester The suitable cut-off points of TIBC were 400${\mu}g$/dL for whole period of pregnancy. 360${\mu}g$/dL for 1st trimester, and 400${\mu}g$/dL for both 2nd and 3rd trimester. Any cut-off point of sTfR could not be selected because of its low sensitivity and specificity. The proper cut-off point of sTfR : ferritin ratio was 600 or 650 for all the periods determined except the first trimester. In conclusion, there were no reliable cut-off levels of sTfR and those of sTfR : ferritin ratio showed low specificity. The cut-off values of Hb and Hct for assessing iron deficiency were slightly higher than the values used to evaluate anemia. Thus, if appropriate cut-off levels were applied, Hb. Hct, or TIBC might be useful indices for evaluating iron deficiency as well as anemia.
This study was to investigate fat content and fatty acid composition of 19 various fast-foods. Fat content per serving in double cheese burger was 38.8g, shrimpburger 27.5g, gogi-mandoo 26.3g, pizza 25.8g and chicken nuggets 18.8g, respectively, Fatty acid contained in fast-foods mostly were oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and stearic acid. The ratio of P/S in yubuLchobab was 3.l/l, ccochinoodle 2.3/l, pork cutlet 2.3/l, bibimbab 1.511 and shrimpburger 1.3/l when all the other tested fast-foods'P/S were less than 1. The ratio of P/M/S in ham cheese sandwich was 1/1/1, shrimpburger 1.3/1.5/l, bibimbab 1.s/l.5/l, which are similar to recommended 1∼1.5/1∼1.5/l. The ratio of 6/3 fatty acids was found to be kimbab(34.0/l), chicken nuggets(25.3/l), ccochi noodle(20.0/l), yubu-chobab (16.5/l), fried chicken(16.3/l), chickenburger(12.6/l) and hot dog(10.2/1), which were higher than 10/1. Also pizza(3.511), spaghetti(3.7/l) were lower than 4/1. The rest of the fast-foods were within the range of 4/1∼10/1.
By studying the relationship between the morphology of mandibular symphysis and craniofacial morphology in classIII malocclusion, this study aims at deciding whether the morphogy of mandibular symphysis can be used as a predictor on the growth of mandible. The materials used for this study were the cephalometric radiographs of male class III malocclusion. The subjected age groups were 10-12(G1 group) and 20 and above(G2 group): 50 were selected from each group. Each group was again divided, according to the ratio of symphysis, into Large(L), Average(A), and Small(S). The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. In average the ratio of symphysis, G2 group showed significantly bigger than G1 group(p<0.05) 2. In both G1 and G2 groups, the ratio of symphysis had no relationship with the measurements on the cranial base and the maxilla(p>0.05). 3. In both G1 and G2 groups, there was not distinct difference in the antero-posterior positions among L, A, S subgroups. 4. L and A subgroups showed significantly larger than S subgroup in lower gonial angle and chin angle in G1 group (p<0.05). 5. In the measurements on the vortical relation of the face, anterior total face height(ATFH) and anterior lower face height(ALFH) of L subgroup were significantly larger than that of S subgroup in G1 group(p<0.05) and also mandible showed a tendency to grow downward vertically. 6. In the measurements on the tooth position and inclination, L subgroup showed as compared with S subgroup a tendency of extrusion of maxillary and mandibular teeth in G1 group, but G2 group showed such tendency only in mandibular teeth. 7. In the measurements on the abnormal growth prediction by Schulhof, in G1, there was no significant difference among L, A, S sugroups. 8. In the correlative analysis of the ratio of symphysis and other measurements, G1 group showed significant correlationships in chin angle, PP/MP angie, ANS-Me and other, while G2 group showed the same only in MP-LIT and MP-LMMC(p<0.05, p<0.01). In summarizing the above, in the G1 group, consisting of young males, no difference was noted in horizontal relation between L and S subgroups; in vertical relation, L subgroup showed a stronger tendency of downward growth of mandible than S subgroup. In adult male G2 group, however, no distinct morphological difference of craniofacial complex by the ratio of symphysis.
