인삼 직파재배에서 파종밀도가 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Seeding Rate on Growth and Yield of Ginseng Plant in Direct-Sowing Culture)

  • To know possibility of raw ginseng production for white- and red-ginseng by direct-sowing culture, seeds were directly sowed or seedlings were transplanted at soil condition of sandy loam in ginseng field. After cultivation, the characters of 5-year-old ginseng were investigated. Number of survived plants was increased with increase the seeding quantity in direct-sowing culture, the survived plants in direct-sowing culture was higher than that of transplanting one. Rate of the numbers of survived plants to numbers of seeds sowed in plots of 134 or 90 seeds sowed per tan, 180 x 90cm area, inspire of high number of survived plant was high compared to that of transplanting culture. Occurrence rate of rusty root of ginseng in direct-sowing culture was low significantly compared to that of transplanting culture. Root yield showed in the order of 134, 268, 90 seeds sowed, the values of yield in direct-sowing culture were high obviously compared to that of transplanting one. Individual root weight was increased with decrease the seeding quantity, however, the root weight in plot of 90 seeds sowed showed almost equal the weight in transplanting culture. The number of usable raw ginseng for white- and red-ginseng was increased with decrease of the seeding quantity; the numbers were higher than that of transplanting culture remarkably. We concluded that optimum seedling rate in direct-sowing culture of ginseng was 90 to 134 seeds per tan considering the yield per area and production rate of large root.

Survey of Cherry necrotic rusty mottle virus and Cherry green ring mottle virus incidence in Korea by Duplex RT-PCR

  • The incidence of Cherry necrotic rusty mottle virus (CNRMV) and Cherry green ring mottle virus (CGRMV) have recently been occurred in Korea, posing a problem for sweet cherry cultivation. Since infected trees have symptomless leaves or ring-like spots on the pericarp, it is difficult to identify a viral infection. In this study, the incidence of CNRMV and CGRMV in sweet cherry in Gyeongbuk province was surveyed using a newly developed duplex reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method that can detect both viruses in a single reaction. CNRMV and CGRMV co-infection rates were 29.6%, 53.6%, and 17.6%, respectively, in samples collected from three different sites (Daegu, Gyeongju and Gyeongsan) in Gyeongbuk province during 2012 and 2013. This duplex RT-PCR method offers a simple, rapid, and effective way of identifying CNRMV and CGRMV simultaneously in sweet cherry trees, which can aid in the management of viral infections that could undermine yield.

  • A 33 year old male patient was admitted with 20 years history of recurrent hemoptysis. On clinical examination, mild left chest discomfortness and foul odored sputum with occasional rusty hemoptysis were principal complaints noted. Chest X-ray film revealed moderately advanced active tuberculosis lesion on both upper lung fields, and hen-egg sized mass surrounded with linear crescent of air shadow in a cavity on his left upper lung field. On left thoracotomy, dense pleural adhesions on left apicoposterior segmental surface with multiple lymphnode enlargements were noted, and the soft encapsulated mass of $5{\times}5{\times}8cm$ was localized in the apicoposterior segment of the left upper lobe. Apicoposterior segment with anterior segment of the left upper lobe was resected. Cavity was opened to find a rusty grayish colored, fragile mass, which was confirmed as "fungus ball" of aspergillosis by histological section slide with Gomori staining. The authors report one case of pulmonary aspergilloma superinfected with previous long standing pulmonary tbc.

RT-PCR Detection of Three Non-reported Fruit Tree Viruses Useful for Quarantine Purpose in Korea

  • A simple and reliable procedure for RT-PCR detection of Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV), Cherry rasp leaf virus (CRLV), and Cherry necrotic rusty mottle virus (CNRMV) was developed. Two virus specific primer sets for each virus were found to specifically detect each virus among fourteen sets of designed oligonucleotide primers. Total RNAs extracted from healthy and from ASPV-,CRLV- and CNRMV-infected plant tissues were used to synthesize cDNA using oligo dT primer and then amplified by virus-specific primers for each virus. Each primer specifically amplified DNA fragments of 578 bp and 306 bp products for ASPV (prAS CP-C and prAS CP-N primers, respectively); 697 bp and 429 bp products for CRLV (prCR4 and prCR5-JQ3D3 primers, respectively); and 370 bp and 257 bp products for CNRMV (prCN4 and prCN6-NEG 1 primers, respec-tively) by RT-PCR. DNA sequencing of amplified DNA fragments confirmed the nature of each amplified DNA. Altogether, these results suggest that these virus specific primer sets can specifically amplify viral sequences in infected tissues and thus indicate that they can be used for specific detection of each virus.

해가림 종류가 수삼, 홍삼 및 백삼의 품질과 무기물 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Shading on the Quality of Raw, Red and White Ginseng and the Contents of Some Minerals in Ginseng Roots)

  • The quality of raw, red and white ginseng and the contents of some minerals were examined using 6-year-old ginseng roots produced in different shades, thatch and polyethylene net (P..E.). The yield of first and second grade ginseng roots was higher in the thatch shade than in the P.E. shade. The smaller sizes of ginseng routs were probably due to loss of ginseng yield called by alternaria blight in the third and fourth years, and lower quality was dale to more rusty roots in the P.E. shading. For red ginseng. rates of heaven and earth grades were higher in the P.E. than thatch shade. producing red ginseng with less inside cavity Production of white ginseng was higher in the thatch shade than in the P.E. shade. showing a higher yield, better piece grade, lower inside crack and better quality index in the thatch. The contents of some minerals such as K, Ca, Mg and Mn of fine ginseng roots differed between the two shades, some of which had a significant correlation with the quality indices of white ginseng. 논 인삼 우량묘 생산을 위한 활성이온칼슘 처리효과 (The Effect of Activated Ion Calcium for Production of Panax ginseng Seedlings in Paddy Field)

  • When ginseng seedlings are cultured in paddy fields, quality degradation and yield reduction are induced by severe plant loss with chlorosis on leaves occurred physiological disorder by excessive salt and poor drainage, rusty-root occurrence, and root rot etc. Accordingly, in order to solve these problems, this study was performed to investigate the treatment method, concentrations and time of activated ion calcium as environment-friendly agricultural materials. Activated ion calcium is an enriched and purified water-soluble mineral calcium component for absorbing quickly into plant as a highly functional calcium and it is an alkaline calcium of 37% (370 $m{\ell}$/1 ${\ell}$) concentration with pH 13. Treatment method was that ginseng seeds were sown after removing water in the shade after seed immersion for 1 minute with active ion calcium of 20-fold diluted solution, and then irrigated $4{\ell}$ per 3.3 $m^2$ with 200-fold, 400-fold, and 600-fold diluted solution before emergence on late March, and supplied 1 time on leaves with 500-fold diluted solution in June and July respectively. The disease rate by treatment of activated ion calcium was that on the treatment of soil irrigated with 200-fold diluted solution compared to non-treated soil, damping-off was 33%, anthracnose was 100% reduced and the occurrence rate of rusty-root was 30% reduced. In addition, when active ion calcium of 200-fold diluted solution were soil irrigated, first and second grade ginseng were respectively 26% and 22% produced more, compared with control.

인삼 적변유기에 대한 폴리페놀과 Polyphenol Oxidase의 잠재적 역할 (Potential Role of Polyphenolics and Polyphenol Oxidase on the Induction of Browning in Ginseng Roots)

  • 본 연구는 적변 유발 세균에 의해 발생하는 적변삼과 polyphenol 및 polyphenol oxidase 활성과의 관계를 조사하였으며, 이는 다음과 같다. 1. 적변 유발 균주를 상처낸 건전 인삼 외피에 접종하여 무처리구와 비교하였을 때, 접종일수의 증가에 따라 Hue angle값이 접종 후 1일 101.2, 10일 95.9, 20일 90.1, 30일 60.9로 적색으로 변화되었다. 2. Lysobacter gummosus, Pseudomonas veronii 및 Agrobacterium tumefaciens 균주를 인삼의 상처부위에 접종하였을 때, 총페놀의 함량은 일수가 경과할수록 증가하였다. 3. Lysobacter gummosus, Pseudomonas veronii 및 Agrobacterium tumefaciens 균주를 상처낸 인삼에 접종하였을 때 페놀함량의 증가와 함께 효소의 활성이 증가하였으나 단백질당 PPO의 활성은 감소하였다.
