Study on children from international marriage so far has been conducted focusing on the school-aged children, and it uniformly presents those children as a mere being with problem, overlooking regional variables of rural area. Hence, this study aims to seek various means of adaptation of children from international marriage by considering both variables rural area and adolescence. For this study, six children from international marriage living in the rural area of H county in Jeonlanamdo were chosen, in-dept interview were conducted, and Giorgi(1985) was used to analyze qualitative data. The results shows that these adolescences appear to have extensive experiences in the areas of learning, personal relationship, home and identity. Level of academic achievement was influenced by what school they attend to, and personal relationship aspect was affected by prejudice and discriminative perception from people around them. In addition, in home environment, hatred toward father, sympathy for mother, comparison with mothers who have great cultural adaptation skills, and pressure as the firstborn appear to be on the increase. Adolescent children tend to be addicted to internet games in order to escape from anxiety, experiencing identity crisis. They tend to be negative about international marriage of their parents, and exhibit behaviors refusing values and religious view of their parents. At the conclusion, limitation of the study and suggestion for further study are presented.
This study intends to suggest basic data for the activation of rural activities in dietary life education, through a survey of adolescents on rural activities in dietary life education. It was found that 63.2% of subject students had the experience of rural activities; and that as many as 35.2% among the students who experienced rural activities participated in the activities 5 times or more. And the survey showed that rural activities were led most frequently by a teacher in charge (37.9%), and rather rarely by a nutrition teacher (15.4%) or an expert in dietary life education (7.7%). As for food ingredients that adolescents experienced during rural activities, they were composed of easily available good cookers that are common in the Korean diet, and, among them, vegetables were experienced most, followed by cereals and fruits. On the other hand, as for food ingredients preferred by adolescents, it was found that boy students preferred meat, while girl students preferred fruits. And as for improvements in dietary life, it was found that making efforts to have good dietary habits had the highest score, which shows that rural activities contributed to the improvement in adolescents' dietary life. Therefore, given the fact that rural activities go some way towards improving adolescents' dietary life, it is advisable that more opportunities for experiencing rural activities be provided to adolescents in the future so as to help them have good dietary habits.
This study was conducted to investigate the nutrient intake, dietary and weight control behaviors and iron deficiency of adolescent girls. The subjects were 216 female middle school students living in urban and rural areas of Inchon. Thin cross- sectional study was conducted by questionnaires and data were analyze by SAS program. Nutrient intakes collected from 3 day-recalls were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program(CAN-pro). The mean height, weight. BMI and obesity index for the subjects were 158.2 cm, 51.1kg, 20.4 and -5.3 % in urban students and 155.9 cm, 49.3 kg 21.1 and -8.2% in rural students, respectively. Easting blood samples were obtained and analyzed for iron nutritional status. The mean obesity index of the urban students was higher than that of the rural students. The proportion of the overweight group was higher in urban students compared to rural students, However, over 10% of both area students belonged to the low weight group, respectively. Most students of both areas skipped breakfast and the main reason was on appetite and lack of time. Urban students were more concerned with body image. The nutrients which showed a lower mean intake as percentile of RDA were Ca, iron, vit A an Vit B$_2$ and most nutrient intakes of urban students were significantly higher compared to those of rural students. These results indicate that nutrient intakes in the female middle school students were considerably lower than the RDA. Also they had undesirable food habits and lower self-satisfaction with their body image, There were significant differences in the mean MCV, TIBC and serum ferritin between urban and rural area subjects. Mean Hb, Hct, MCH, MCHC and TS, bowaver, were not significantly different. Prevalence of iron deficiency greatly varied by indices from urban(11.5%) and rural (8.7%) when judged by Hb to urban(23.1) and rural (23.3%) by serum ferrition. Therefore, proper nutrition education is required for good nutrition desirable food habits, weight control, and guidance for iron deficiency in anemic female of adolescents.
This study was conducted to investigate the levels of hope and their relationship with problem behavior, academic records and procrastination among rural adolescents. The participants were 579 rural middle and high school students from three counties. The major results of the study were as follows. First, pathway and agency thinking of rural adolescents were negatively correlated with depression and anxiety, and were positively correlated with academic records and procrastination. But only agency thinking of rural adolescents were negatively correlated with delinquency among problem behaviors. Second, as a result of multivariate analysis of variance, groups of high hope of rural adolescents were lower in depression and anxiety than groups of low hope, but were higher in academic records and procrastination.
The purpose of study was to test the hypothesis that three are differences in body size dietary behavior and nutrient intakes of adolescent girls with weight control experience. Cross-sectional survey was carried out with a questionnaire and anthropometric measurements . Subjects were 724 healthy adolescent girls from middle and high schools of urban and rural areas in Inchon and divided into two subgroups with weight control experience. Subjects trying to lose weigh were 25.1% in middle school girls and 47.1% in high school girls. There were significant differences in weight and BMI between weight control experience and non- experienced groups in middle school students. There were significant differences in skipping meals and reason of skipping meals between weigh control experience and non-experience groups which might show that skipping meal was used as a weight loss method among female school students. There was no significant difference in nutrient intakes between weight control experienced and non-experienced groups in middle and high school subjects. these results suggest that nutrition education is necessary for adolescent girls to practice appropriate weigh control strategies including desirable eating habits and adequate intake of nutrients such as energy vitamin A vitamin B$_2$calcium and iron.
The purpose of this study was to find out the characteristics of the adolescent consumers related to the attitudes toward TV advertisements on and purchasing behaviors of the sport beverages, and to test the role of the atitudes toward TV advertisements between the consumer characteristics and the purchasing behaviors of the sport beverages. The qusetionnaire method was utilized to 549 female and male junior and senior high school students in urban and rural areas. The results showed that the attitudes toward TV advertisement on sport beverage was related to the residentiae years in school, whom to buy, level of interests in sports, and level of knowledges of the beverages; purchasing behaviors of the sport beverages, whom to buy, gender, level of knowledges of the beverages, size of the allowance, and the residentiae years in school. The attitudes toward TV advertisements seemed to the intervenning role between the consumer characteristics and the purchasing behaviors among adolescent consumers.
The purpose of this study is to examine the healthy degree of the rural families and the variables that affect it, as well as the differences between husband and wife perceptions on the healthiness of rural families. One hundred and ninety six couples (three hundred and ninety two individuals) were surveyed for this study The following findings were obtained from the analysis of the data. First, the degree of the healthiness of rural families was quantified as about 71 points out of 100 possible maximum points. Second, family type ($\beta$=.17), the wife's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.22), the husband's self-esteem ($\beta$ =.17), wife's marital satisfaction ($\beta$ =.32), and husband's marital satisfaction ($\beta$=.15) were the only variables that significantly affected the healthiness of rural families. Third, social-psychological variables (for example, self-esteem and marital satisfaction of the couple) had more explanatory power than material and farming-related variables. From the results of this study, it is suggested that in order to enhance the healthiness of rural families, systematic educational programs that can improve social-psychological interactions among family members should be developed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the smoking behaviors and to identify the impact of depression, temperament, and characteristics of smoking experience on rural adolescents. Method: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was done of 310 rural high school students. Using SPSS 12.0, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The smoking rate of rural high school students was higher than that of the national rate for this age group. Serious depression was observed in the rural high school students. There was a positive correlation among smoking experience, school records, novelty seeking and a negative correlation between smoking and cooperativeness. The significant predictors of smoking experience were type of school, satisfaction with school, school records, novelty seeking, reward dependence and cooperativeness. These factors accounted for 38.9% of variances in the smoking experience of rural adolescents. Conclusion: These results suggest that adolescents who exhibit factors identified in this study are regarded as having the potential to smoke, and this result proposes the basis for program development for the prevention of smoking and smoking cessation.
This study is conducted to find out what differences are made on among home-environmental variables, family cohesion, adaption and communication, and to define what variables influence to communication satisfaction of adolescent children. Questionaire survey method was used. The subjects of this study were 578 male and female middle school students living in Kwangiu from July 6, 1992 to July 15, 1992. For the statistical analysis of data, frequency distribution, percentage, average, standard deviation, T-test, F-test, Pearson's correlation and regression analysis were performed. The main findings were as follows : 1) Family cohesion and adaptability variables showed significant difference according to adolescent's sea age, father's education level, income level, occupation and father's religion. 2) Communication showed significant difference according to adolescent's sex, age, father's age, education level, income level, occupation and father's religion. 3) Communication satisfaction showed significant difference about adolescent's age, father's income level. 4) Communication satisfaction showed significant difference by high level in reference to family cohesion and adaptability. 5) Communication satisfaction in reference to communication showed significant difference. 6) The most influential variable on communication satisfaction between fathers and their adolescents children was active response and marked positive influence in order family adaptability, friendly nonverbalism.
This study was undertaken to investigate the nutrient intake, dietary behavior, perception of body image and iron deficiency of high school adolescent girls. The subjects were 463 high school girls in Inchon. This cross-sectional survey was conducted by questionnaires and data were analysed by SAS program. Nutrient intakes collected from 3 day-retails were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis Program. The following anthropometric measurements were made on all participants height, weight, body fat (%), skinfold thirkness, subscapular skinfold thickness, mid-upper arm circumference and waist-hip circumference. Blood samples were obtained and analyzed for iron nutritional status. The mean obesity index of rural students were highest among students. However, over 18% of the urban and rural students belonged to the low-weight group. Proportions of skipping meals were most high in urban vocational students and the main reason was lack of time for meal. Most nutrient intakes of the students were below the RDA, in particular calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin B$_2$. Most of the students were concerned with body image and weight control. Also they were not satisfied with their body image. The mean fell hemoglobin and transferrin saturation of rural students were lowest among students. The total binding capacity of urban vocational student\ulcorner were Invest among students. Prevalence of iron deficiency was most high in urban general students when judged by Hb, MCV and serum ferritin. In conclusion, this study indicates that nutrient intake in the female high school students was considerably lower than RDA. They should also be notified that severe weight control is very harmful for health. And they had lower self -satisfaction for their body image and undesirable flood habits. Therefore, prefer nutrition education is required to maintain desirable flood habits and improve their iron status in female high school students.
