  • A train performance simulation (TPS) software is a computer program that simulates the operation of a train system over a specified railway route and it is widely used in railroad operation and research applications. Numerical and graphical results from the simulation software, which is developed in this study, provide information on such performance variables as travel time. running speed, energy consumption at a specific time interval and in overall service time as the train moves along the route. Three types of input data are required for a computer simulation: track information, train information, and running conditions. The simulation of train performance starts with several simple mathematical models including train configuration. traction efforts, running resistance. and braking requirements. Based on the basic specifications of Korean High Speed Railway, System. this study, puts a focus on the estimation and assessment of train performance comparing. the specific train configurations of KEST20/11. CPLE20/10. PROP20/10, which are proposed from the previous G7 projects.

  • The driving characteristics of the 1 tube 2 chamber bent silkworm type dyeing machine are reported. This dyeing machine is a newly developed energy saving machine. In this study, the driving characteristics of the 1 tube 2 chamber bent silkworm type dyeing machine are examined. Specially the relationship between main body pressure and the electric current of the blower motor, the relationship between main body pressure and the air pressure of the blower nozzle, the effect of the air pressure of the blower on the running speed of the fabric, and the effect of main body temperature were discussed experimentally. Through the experimental data, the following results were obtained. 1. Blower motor electric current and blower nozzle air pressure increased as main body pressure increased due to the temperature increase of the main body. 2. The running speed of the fabric increased as blower nozzle air pressure increased. The difference in running speed between winch reel driving and no winch reel driving at a blower frequency of 60Hz was higher than that of 70Hz. 3. The electric current of the blower rioter and blower nozzle air pressure increased rapidly at the initial state. As the experimental time passed, the main body pressure increased slowly. as the main body temperature increased.

  • As a high-speed train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of it due to the piston action of train. The compression waves propagate along the tunnel and reflect backward at the exit of tunnel. A complex wave phenomenon appears in the tunnel, because of the successive reflections of the pressure waves at the exit and entrance of tunnel. The pressure waves can give rise to large pressure transients which impose the fluctuating loads on the running train. It is highly needed that the pressure transients should be predicted to design the train body and to improve the comfort for the passengers in the train. In the present study, the pressure transients and aerodynamic drag for two-trains running in a tunnel were calculated numerically for a wide range of train speed, and compared with the results of the previous tunnel tests and calculations for one train. The present calculation results agreed with ones of the tunnel tests, and the mechanism of pressure transients was made clear.

  • Recently, as the road capacity reaches the limit and environmental problems becomes serious, there is gradually increased a need for railroad vehicles that are environment-friendly and have time regularity, reliability, and safety. Accordingly, in addition to conventional railroad vehicles, lots of vehicles are being newly developed. • Through the multibody dynamic simulation, the analysis model of the modalohr freight car of the DMT freight car was developed. By using the developed analysis model, the running dynamic characteristics was inquired through the dynamic analysis about the modalohr freight car. As the running speed and the primary suspension were increased, the lateral and vertical vibration accelerations of the car-body and the bogie were also increased. In case of the lateral vibration acceleration of the car-body, however, review should be considered since it can be influenced by the nonlinear characteristic of the primary suspension. The lateral and vertical vibration of the car-body were generated at the frequency of $2{\sim}3\;Hz$ and $7{\sim}8\;Hz$. And the lateral and vertical vibration of the bogie were generated at the frequency of $25{\sim}35\;Hz$ at the low speed section, $40{\sim}50\;Hz$ at the high speed section.

  • In this study, in-situ dynamic tests of the world's longest steel box tied-arch bridge over the Yangtze River, China, are reported. The double deck bridge supports highway and monorail systems at upper and lower levels, respectively. Strain, displacement, and acceleration responses were measured and used to investigate the vibration characteristics of the bridge when excited by running trains and/or trucks at a speed of 5-60 km/h, train braking, and truck bouncing. Impact factors were correlated with the running speed of trains and trucks. A three-dimensional finite element model of the coupled monorail-train-bridge vibration system accounting for track irregularities was established to understand the system behavior and validated by the experimental results. Truck bouncing was the dominant impact factor on bridge responses. The running speed of vehicles determined the riding comfort of traveling trains.

  • Purpose: To ascertain the increase of the farm income that predominantly relies on human resources by mechanizing Welsh onion harvesting, a tractor-mounted Welsh onion harvester was developed in this study. Method: An experiment for evaluating harvesting performance was performed for the developed Welsh onion harvester in an actual Welsh onion farm. The harvest performance was evaluated at the tractor running speeds of 5.0 cm/s, 11.4 cm/s and 15.8 cm/s, by comparing the operating efficiency, harvest rate, and damage rate of the Welsh onion harvester. Results: The performance of the harvester was rated as very good, with a 100% harvest rate, regardless of tractor running speed. Furthermore, it is shown that work efficiency of the harvester is expected to increase as the running speed increases. Nonetheless, the damage rate of the harvested Welsh onions at running speeds 5.0 cm/s, 11.4 cm/s, and 15.8 cm/s, increased correspondingly and proportionally to speeds from 4.55% to 6.53% and to 11.29%. The residual amount of soil on the harvested Welsh onions was about 0.24% of their weight showing excellent soil-removal performance of the harvester. Conclusion: The developed Welsh onion harvester is believed to improve the labor productivity and cultivation environment of Welsh onion farmhouses by the mechanization of the harvesting process that is currently associated with the largest amount of labor hours.

  • A new, high-efficiency ultrasonic fabric washing machine was developed to be an energy-efficient washing machine and to enhance fabric washing quality in washing processes of the dyeing and finishing process in the textile industry. This system is composed of ultrasonic wave generator, air blowing nozzle, torque motor for fabric tension control, and enclosed washing bath, multi-tube type exchanger, noiseless heater, air cylinder, expander roller, mangle upper and lower rollers, bend bar, dancer, shower spray nozzle, and solenoid valve, and so on. These elements are synergised for fabric washing. One of the very important principles is the low tension fabric running system. For an efficient washing effect, a counter flow system is also adopted. The new system also adopts the dancer and torque motor to control fabric tension and prevent fabric creasing. Shower spray nozzle, counter flow and overflow apparatus, and air-blowing apparatus are adopted to enhance the fabric washing effect. In this study, peach yoryu, exter, and moss crepe fabrics were washed by the general and ultrasonic washing systems under different conditions respectively. The washing efficiency was affected by the fabric running speed and characteristics of fabrics. Size content after washing increased with increasing the fabric running speed. The values in the general washing system were higher than those of the ultrasonic washing system. The changes of conductivity in the ultrasonic and the cooling bath were affected by the running time under the ultrasonic generating. The values of conductivity decreased as the experimental time passed.
