다이캐스팅 금형 설계 시스템 개발 (Development of Die Design System for Die Casting)

  • Die Casting is one of the forming methods to manufacture large number of products with short period time and clean surface by high forming pressure and temperature of cast alloy. Die design is composed of selection of cast alloy, design of die casting product, runner and gate design etc. In reality, however, die design of die casting has been performed by trial and error method, which cause economic and time loss. This paper describes a research work of developing computer-aided design of die casting product and die design. Approach to the CAD system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD with personal computer. In this study, die design system for gate of die casting process has been developed to present algorithm for automation of die design, especially runner-gate system. As forming process and die design system using 3-D geometry handling are integrated with technology of process planning, die design is possible to set. In addition, specific rules and equations for the runner-gate system have been presented to avoid too many trails and errors with expensive equipment. It is possible for engineers to make automatic and efficient die design of die casting and it will result in reduction of expense and time to be required. An example is applied to cap-shaped casting using proposed algorithm.

  • Injection molding is widely used in producing various plastic parts due to its high productivity and the demand for high precision injection molded products is ever increasing. To achieve successful product quality and precision, the design of gating and runner systems in the injection mold is very important since it directly influences melt flow into the cavity. Some defects such as weld lines and overpacking can be effectively controlled with proper selection of gate locations. In the present study, the design of gate locations in injection molding of a dashboard for automobiles was carried out with CAMPmold, a PC-based simulation system for injection molding. A dummy runner was developed to simulate a runner system in order to increase the efficiency of the analysis. The numbers and locations of gates were varied in the present investigation as that an acceptable design was obtained in terms of reduced maximum pressure and clamping force.

  • Die design of die casting is composed of selection of cast alloy, design of die casting product, runner design and gate design, etc. In reality, however, die design of die casting has been performed by trial and error method, which cause economic and financial loss. Nowadays, several FEM(finite element method) and FDM(finite difference method) codes have been developed to analyze process of die casting, but this is just confined to an offer of limited information for die design of die casting. In this study, die design system for gate of die casting process has been developed to present algorithm for automation of die design, especially runner-gate system. In addition, specific rules for runner-gate system have been presented to avoid too many trials and errors with expensive equipment.   • This paper describes the runner and gate design capabilities of the RAMEDS system, which is a specialized CAD system for injection mold design, dcvcloped using the application procedure interface of the Unigraphics system. In this system, runners lying on sculptuted partlng surface can be modeled by projecting the runner trajectory on the surface and sweeping a selected cross section along the projcctcd trajectory. In addtion, the system provides solid modeling capabilities for three types of gates currently.

  • Injection molding is widely used in producing various plastic parts due to its high productivity, and the demand for injection molded products with high precision is increasing. To achieve successful product quality and precision, the design of gating and runner system in injection mold is very important because it influences the melt flow into the cavity. Some deflects, such as weld lines and overpacking, can be effectively controlled with proper selection of gate locations. In the present study, the design of gate locations in injection molding of a dashboard fur automobiles was carried out with CAMP mold, a PC-based simulation system for injection molding. A dummy runner system was developed to simulate a runner system in order to increase the efficiency of the analysis procedure. The numbers and locations of gates were iteratively determined in the present investigation. In this procedure, an acceptable design was obtained in terms of reducing the maximum pressure and clamping force.

사출성형을 위한 게이트.런너 지적설계시스템에 관한 연구 (Intelligent Design System for Gate and Runner in Injection Molding)

  • The design of gate and runner(delivery system) is one of the most important subject in injection molding. Delivery system is a channel to flow the polymer melt from the injection molding machine to the mold cavities. Also, delivery system affect quality and productivity of the part. The synthesis of delivery system of injection molding has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through the current CAD systems. GATEWAY is a knowledge module which contains knowledge to permit non-experts as well as mold design experts to generate the acceptable geometries of gate and runner far injection molded parts. A knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge module, GATEWAY, to an existing geometric modeler. A knowledge-based CAD system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design and CIM with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design of injection molding.

  • The SS (Semi-solid) diecasters usually cany out the SS d~ecastmg experiments before producing new products. At the SS diecasting stages, the runner-gate part is always repeatedly corrected, which leads to a lengthened processing time and increased processing cost. The SS diecasting die design should consider component system factors. such as runner, gate, biscuit, overflow and airvent. A large amount of experience is essential in manual assessment and if the design is defective, much time and a great deal of efforts will be wasted in the modification of the d~e. Thus human negligence should be minimized. In this study, die design system for SS diecasting process has been developed to present algonthm of die design, especially runner-gate system. In addition, specific rules and equations for runner-gate system have been presented to avoid too many trials and errors with expensive equipment. It is possible for engineers to be efficient die design of SS diecasting and it will result in reduction of expense and time to be required. And we developed CAD system for SS diecasting die design by AutoLISP language under AutoCAD using proposed algorithm and the database. In addition, we developed the vector analysis program for filling pattern of SS metals.

Parametric Study of a Fixed-blade Runner in an Ultra-low-head Gate Turbine

  • Ultra-low-head is an unexplored classification among the sites in which hydroelectric power can be produced. This is typically owing to the low power output and the economic value of the turbines available in this segment. A turbine capable of operating in an ultra-low-head condition without the need of a dam to produce electricity is developed in this study. A gate structure installed at a shallow water channel acting as a weir generates artificial head for the turbine mounted on the gate to produce power. The turbine and generator are designed to be compact and submersible for an efficient and silent operation. The gate angle is adjustable to operate the turbine at varying flow rates. The turbine is designed and tested using computational fluid dynamics tools prior to manufacturing and experimental studies. A parametric study of the runner blade parameters is conducted to obtain the most efficient blade design with minimal hydraulic losses. These parameters include the runner stagger and runner leading edge flow angles. The selected runner design showed improved hydraulic characteristics of the turbine to operate in an ultra-low-head site with minimal losses.

  • Injection molding process is one of the processes that can mold plastic product as low cost. However, manufacturing process of automobile bumper mold has lots of trial and error. Especially, desiging of a huge mold such as bumper mold is needed to establish a design standard for runner system. In this study, CAE was conducted to observe the variation of melt-flow by changing runner and gate type in automobile bumper mold as preceding study for a standard design of runner system.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the formability and quality of the injection molded parts in the molds for molding the motorcycle rear cowl injection molded parts with different volumes at the same time, the flow of the molded parts is changed through the injection molding CAE analysis by changing the gate position, runner size and position. It is to find the optimum gate position, the diameter of the runner and the position where the balance is equal. The molded article formed by the optimization resulted in the uniformity of the molten resin at the same time at the corner of the product, thereby maintaining the flow balance favorable for mass production at lower injection pressure.
