  • Functionalization of montmorillonite clay has been done using 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane using water as a dispersing medium. Qualitative evidence of the presence or silane attached to the clay surface has been identified using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Increase in silane concentration decreases the adsorbed/intercalated ratio calculated using differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG). Average d-spacing calculated using X-ray diffraction initially increases with silane concentration and decreases slightly at higher silane concentration. The influence of processing temperature on the silane functionalization of clay has also been investigated and it shows that chemical grafting of silane on the clay surface is observed with increasing processing temperature.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate multi-view images utilizing depth map decomposition and adaptive edge smoothing. After carrying out smooth filtering based on an adaptive window size to regions of edges in the depth map, we decompose the smoothed depth map into four types of images: regular mesh, object boundary, feature point, and number-of-layer images. Then, we generate 3-D scenes from the decomposed images using a 3-D mesh triangulation technique. Finally, we extract multi-view images from the reconstructed 3-D scenes by changing the position of a virtual camera in the 3-D space. Experimental results show that our scheme generates multi-view images successfully by minimizing a rubber-sheet problem using edge smoothing, and renders consecutive 3-D scenes in real time through information decomposition of depth maps. In addition, the proposed scheme can be used for 3-D applications that need the depth information, such as depth keying, since we can preserve the depth data unlike the previous unsymmetric filtering method.

  • Using the Korean environmental input output analysis, this paper provides the emission intensities of the chemicals, especially, the toxic and carcinogenic substances, by linking the structure of demand, and the policy mix to abate these substances emissions. Acording to the results, Industries with the highest total emission intensities(TEI) of toxic substances are ranked : Printing and reproduction of recorded media(21), Other transportation equipment(26), Pulp and paper(11), Leather and fur products(9), Fiber yarn and fabrics(7). And the highest TEI of carcinogenic substances are Wood and wooden products(10), Motor vehicles and parts(25), Plastic and rubber products(15), Audio, video and communications equipment(23), etc.. The economic factors of changing these emissions are emission intensities and final demands. The effective combinations of policy instruments to abate these emissions are varied by the industries and substances. For example, Government need to execute the effective TEI management in the Fiber yarn and fabrics(7) sector, and, in furniture(27) sector, the reduction of final demand is more effective.
